No Set Bonus with Borg XI + XII?

So I've had my equipment pretty well set for a while. I've been using the old Borg set (now labelled Mk. XI) and the MACO shield Mk. XII since before they added the reputation system. I finally decided to put down the fairly ridiculous amount to get the Mk. XII Assimilated Deflector.

So I throw it on, expecting that small boost to hull, and I got it. But I noticed my hull repair rate went down substantially. Took me a bit to find the cause: Combining my Mk. XII Borg deflector and my mk. XI Borg engines doesn't give me the first set bonus.

Is that how it's supposed to work? Did I throw all those badges and dilithium down to get something that is designed to be a net loss to me unless I throw down just as much to get the mk. XI engines too? Is this a glitch? I'm really hoping it's a glitch, because otherwise I feel like an idiot for wasting all this time to only have to do more work to earn back something I already have (still kept the mk. XI deflector, for what it's worth).

So, anyone know? Is this how it's supposed to be, or am I dealing with a glitch?

    This is how it works with all equipment sets in the game. You need all pieces to be the same Mark to get the set bonuses.

    Yeah, it's dumb, but they all need to be the same Mk in order to get the bonus from them.

    To be honest... It is not dumb, that is just the way it is supposed to work.

    That's annoying. Upgrading from Tier XI to Tier XII would be alot smoother if set bonuses could be maintained.

    Just to note that there is substantial increase to hull integrity from the XI to the XII set. Having both, I have put my original set onto my shuttle and exclusively use the three piece XII set.

    Alternatively, you can get the engine only and keep your MACO shields XII which I have been told is excellent for PVP in particular. Thus, only one more thing to get and it would all be XII but of course, you still would be missing the set power that comes with it (tractor beam).

    Either way, imho it's worth the grind.

    Well...that's a shame. Now I do feel kind of stupid for sinking all that time and dil into it. I guess I'll get the engines some day then.

    I'm sure others have mentioned this, but it sure would be nice if having the Mk. XI already would allow me to trade it in for a bit of a cost reduction on the XII. Wishful thinking, though.
