Hi Captains!
I am organizing an in-game (Holodeck) Community Small Craft Only PvP Event for this coming Wednesday.
The first timeslot will be at 7pm BST/ 11am PDT/ 2pm EDT. (Click
here to view in your timezone)
The second timeslot will be at 5pm PDT/ 8pm EDT/ 1am BST. (Click
here to view in your timezone)
Let's plan to meet in orbit of Bajor then and we'll queue up for private matches.
Feel free to attend with a character on either faction, but, they must be in a small craft ONLY (i.e. Fighter, Shuttle, Runabout, Captain's Yacht, Delta Flyer ETC). We'll try and do as many matches as possible, for one full hour.
Please join the OrganizedPvP channel to see any communication/ instructions from myself. Type this command in your chat bar to join the channel: /channel_join OrganizedPvP
If you can't make it Wednesday, I would like to try and do these often, and on different days/ times. Feel free to post constructive feedback in this thread with ideas, including if you would like to see this expanded to other types of events (STFs, PvE, Events, Fleet Actions etc.).
Hope to see many of you Wednesday!
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=

(just kidding)
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

cause sometimes its party time!
with...
actual ships and teams?
so we can.....
you know....
use the bridge officer powers and ships you provide in the game?
Because this is not a tournament -- it's a community event, and casual. This same event has been run a few times in the past and everyone's had fun.

Having fun... priceless!
I may come to this !!!
From The Torch EG lady.
And maybe you are too young to remember, but we are approaching the third anniversary of Snix day. And Snix day reminds us that tournaments are a part of Cryptic's vision for STO.
Don't be too afraid of new things. Yes, these casual and shallow events have worked in the past, but that doesn't mean that you can't also try new things! Boldy go where no man has gone before!
While I am not opposed to this idea (its a small challenge to fly a ship as limited as a shuttle/fighter...); I would rather like to have something like that but in lower tier ships (more specifically ships like miranda's, constitutions, k'tango's etc etc..., but no birds of prey though for they would cream all the opposition...)
Me personally, I am not really a fan of shuttle combat (those things are too twitchy for my liking)...
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
R.I.P
Since I see no bashing coming from Hilbert (mancom) or myself, I can only read your response as someone taking a very defensive posture on the subject. Which, is.... interesting.
I just made a suggestion for a real team play tourney. Something a lot of people have asked for in the past and it's never came to fruition. And to see this event being planned, makes me wonder if they have the time to do such things... Why not just throw together a 3v3 or 5v5 tournament? They provide us with a queue system which pits us 5v5....
And please, no one is ruining anyone's vision of what the game should be. Hilbert and I are both part of very casual fleets. You can find most of us running stfs and going for fleet marks or rep stuff most of the time. We pvp casually. Just.... Not often in shuttles, we see the game as being much bigger than that, and this is evident from the tools that cryptic gives us to play the game.
Have fun kill bad guys

Perhaps this is still a bit of a disappointment of Cryptic pulling out their support of the PVP Tournament that was being worked on in the past. But it is still something that, in the future, I would like to see. And I can only assume that others who pvp would like to see, not just a PVP community Event. But an actual PVP Community Tournament Event.
It would especially be maybe a nice way to usher in the Romulans into the fold. Perhaps a month or two after LoR comes out to give players time to Level up their new characters.
Either way, don't hate us just because we're "PVPers". Especially when we are trying to do our best to PVP in a game environment that doesn't look like it will get the help it needs from the development staff for another year. (Making it 4 years since any true PVP content and updates have come to pass:()
Anyway, I wish I could participate in the tournament, but real life stinks. And it is taking up most of my prioritized time for such things. Good luck with it Brandon. And have fun.
Think about this:
American Football has been in open beta for 144 years. ~Kotaku
Maybe sometime after the 21st when every faction has access to 1-50 ships we can see this expanded to a level 1-10 player ship event more pilot skill less dependence on boffs and consoles, overall I like the idea.
btw, Bran do you know if KDF is getting anymore low level starter ships (besides the 2-bops),
like maybe a lethean ship or the nausicaan npc destroyer escort (fingers crossed maybe all the npc ships as they look amazing after last tribble patch). Great work from all the texure artists with the new tribble stuff makes me not wanna go back on holodeck after seeing how even my characters looks like they have more detail when on tribble, truly amazing.
Edit: PVP wise at this point I would love some more ground arena/assault maps (like the New Romulus warehouse) be added in
Good Hunting
Problem solved
Someone from Cryptic doing it on their own time, with their own personal account would be exempt of course and rightly so. Its their personal time. But using their Cryptic account for such things is where the conflict of interest arises.
I think this is off topic, but necessary.
If you want shuttle/ship 5v5, 3v3, 1v1, 10v10 etc, then the community should coordinate something outside of Cryptic's help or assistance. If not, then Cryptic should do the same for every group in the game. I am sure there are a lot of people that would like them to set up some kind of function for their game style play...
A PvP queue that auto adjusts for tournaments with auto-pairing would be super cool that has leaderboards, etc... I would like to see it but doubt it would happen given the awesome stuff already on their plate...
I am sure many are gonig to say I am missing the point. No, I get it... Fun, casual PvP event, that I myself might attend just because its there. Its still a great idea Brandon...:D

great idea and I think fleet, and other PVE events would be great to have on a regular basis keep up the great work
So as the GM, it might be high time to utilize the other 90% of the ships in the game for a proper PVP tourney?
You mean like the foundry contests that Cryptic run? Or how about the litracy contests that Cryptic runs? Oh and not to mention the random "Let's go to Quarks and RP" evenings.
Fact up first.

wee bit of "nailed it" in that post.
...
okay, so it was a lot of "nailed it"
I appreciate the desire for a tournament, but a full tournament and a quick, hour-long shuttle event with 2 timeslots that is casual for a weekly community event are two very different things I'm not opposed with helping support a tournament, but it's not something I can pursue at this exact moment in time due to various reasons.
Cheers,
