Privacy issue/lack of protection...

I have a few issues with privacy in the game and the protection of it...

I know, it is a MMO and opened to a large number of players. However, there should be ways to protect ourselves or keep some undesiring players from interacting (or interfering) with us and our gameplay. Before I go further, yes I know of the reporting/ignoring system, used it but find it weak at best.

For one, can we please have the option to hide our @handle in-game, or the option to just show it to people we decide to friend with... I wish to be able to switch character in peace, simple enough...

Furthermore, if I ignore someone, I wish they could not /who me and literally follow me... happened, been reported. But someone being ignored should not be able to use commands such a /who in this case...

option to block /tell from non-friend people if we choose so? blocking invites to fleet and so on....

There are times, i want to loggin, play the game and be left alone. others I will team up, play with fleet and so on...

If people feels the same way or what not, go ahead and state your mind here. And again, yes, when needed, I used the available tools (ignore, GM tickets...) but it seems not enough to set up barriers and keep a fun play atmosphere....

I have a recommendation for you. Turn off Zone chat. You won't regret it.

As far as I can tell *all* of your problems come from speaking to morons and griefers in zone chat. Nobody ever follows me, I never need to use my ignore list and I get left alone in peace and quiet to play the game because I don't interact with the nutters in zone and local chat.

    So turn it off.

Also, you can turn off fleet invites in the options - so do that.

You can also hide the @handles of people in chat in the chat options - so do that.

Frankly if someone is "following" you, it's not exactly hard to fix. Just change instances, unless they're on your friends list they can't see which instance you're in anyway. Change maps, move instances, whatever.

There's also the /hide and /unhide command if you don't even want to be bothered by your friends and fleet mates, that'll show you as offline everywhere.

Seems like you're complaining about a whole lot of nothing here, because everything you've said is completely avoidable with a little care and attention, and tweaking your own options.

You can use the "O" screen and check your privacy settings so that only friends or nobody can see you logged in.

I know this is a rather crude fix but the only help I can offer. I find it strange that blocked people should be able to follow you via /who etc.

Alright, while some replies are a bit rough, I am still welcoming them and will implement them next I am online... I never said I knew it all and thank you for the commands...

i enjoy roaming around the gen chat from time to time :D. i occasionally do a bit of trolling, but most of the time i just read the comments or not at all.

never used the ignore feature once on sto and my ignore list is completely empty since i never saw the point in the ignore system in the first place.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

You can also just close the chat window, too. There's days when I don't even want to see it, no matter what's going on in it, and so I don't. It doesn't address all of your specific issues (/hide would be best, as suggested) but it can go a long way if you just want to play without distraction.
