Graphic/Visual Improvements?

I was wondering if STO might inherit the graphic and visual improvements of Neverwinter. Every time I play it I think to myself, "Geeze I wish STO had these visuals".. more so than actually thinking about playing Neverwinter. XD

Tribble is looking fantastic these days. Most textures in the game just got a complete overhaul, and everything is looking sharp.

Yes absolutely, This is from the patch notes of the last build...
    General:

Updated every texture in the game, everywhere.
This means we have a bigger patch than usual today.

It has definitely made a difference, but it's not quite as noticeably flashy as I was hoping! It still looks more polished though :D

They've changed the lighting engine, UI and 'every' texture on Tribble so far...

Wow! That's great to hear! So definitely noticeable and new, but not Neverwinter level huh? Well I'm still very pleased that they took the time to improve.

I actually read a Tribble thread about the new textures.

Basically, someone noticed that it looks like they took a Photoshop Sharpen filter to existing textures, resulting in some Jpeg artifacts and pixellated edges, as well as strange distortion in smaller textures (like the LCARS display on many consoles) that actually made things look worse.

I certainly hope all these changes mean STO will "play nice" with the graphics driver/hardware.

No other game I've seen demands so much GPU horsepower just to stare at a non-moving, static image, nevermind intense battle scenes with lots of enemies all around...

I disagree, Neverwinter is so god damn ugly outside of Protectorate's Cove or whatever that city was, and even that wasn't that great looking.

But yes, some "improvements" are coming. I haven't really noticed the difference on most of the updated textures, but others have so meh.

Yeah textures are way too sharp atm, unless you run some weird low-end monitor and you dont notice the difference. When you move your camera around there is very annoyin shimmering going on.

Perhaps some lightning or filter isnt working properly yet? Reflections perhaps? who knows. Not too technical on this aspect but there are different effects effecting textures to make them bling bling more, perhaps this part is still bugged?
