So, now that I've had a chance to fly my Ambassador around some, I think it's time I put out a build I am going to start working on, as a personal goal for myself:
The Almost-a-D'deridex build.
I feel that, as it stands now, the Ambassador is the closest thing we're going to get to a D'deridex in the game. As such, I'm going to be building it up to match it as much as possible, to be a D'deridex in all but name and ship shape.
Now, some of the stuff below I won't be keeping as part of the time when I use it in STFs or whatever, it'd be more for keeping with the whole theme of the ship. So, here goes:
BOFFs: All purple Romulan BOFFs (when I can afford them), possibly the Reman BOFF as well
Cmdr Engineer: E-power to X (undecided), RSP 1, E-power to shields 3, Aux to Structural 3 (may change in the future)
Lt Engineer: E-team 1, Aux to Dampeners 1
Lt. Tac: TT 1, BFAW 2
Ensign Tac: TT 1
Lt. Cmdr Sci: Tractor Beam 1, and then for sure having Viral Matrix and/or Photonic Shockwave. Can't remember if I can have both, if only one, then VM at least, and some other ability
DOFFs: VM DOFFs at least
Equipment:
Consoles:
3 Neutronium Alloy Mk XI rares, Zero-point Energy Console
3 Plasma energy consoles
2 Romulan Emitter Array consoles with the shield heal and +threat
SED: Romulan Mk XII set (probably use Maco Mk XII for STFs and the like)
Weapons:
Fore: 2 Mk XII Romulan BA, Experimental BA, Romulan Torp
Aft: 4 Mk XII Romulan BA
What do you all think? I know it probably wouldn't be the best min-maxxed ship or anything, but I think I'd have made it about as 'Romulan' as it could get when I finally finish it. I've got a long ways to go on this thing.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Heh, pricey but thematic. Can't have VM and PSW since they both start at LtCmdr though. Does the Nadeon Detonator work with the Hyper-Plasma Torp? Also, no high-yield for the torpedo, or cloaked tractor mines? There any fancy tricks the Vault D'deridex Defender has that you could steal?
why, why do people keep saying they arnt gonna get a romulan faction.. i mean christ, they just released something basicaly telling us its on the way...
have patience my friend, your dderidex is on the way..

About Nadeon, I don't know. I am going to guess, that no, it doesn't.
Darn, I'd take VM then more, a bit more usage out of it than PSW I feel. Any advice for the Lt. area of the science slot then? I was thinking Tractor Beam 1, HE 2, and VM 1.
I was thinking about HY for the Romulan torp. I might keep a seperate BOFF with that purely for the theme of it, but in terms of normal play, I'd be using BFAW.
I don't believe NPC D'deridex's use Cloaked Tractor Mines. I think that just Mogais and Scimitars (maybe even just Donatra, can't remember atm) use them. I might end up using them if for no other reason than to just save some dil on buying another Romulan BA.
Aside from that, I think I've gotten just about anything 'Romulan' in the game atm, covered. At least that stuff I can put on a ship. If I've missed more, feel free to lemme know. I do know there are Romulan DOFFs, but none of them apply to anything that might help here on a ship really.

I know, I saw it. But anything right now is only speculation, and I'd prefer not to over-hype myself. Nothing guarantees it will be a new faction, but nothing guarantees it won't be a new faction either. Like I said, this is just an 'almost-D'deridex'.
Also, by 'closest to a D'deridex', I mostly meant it stat-wise. As it stands now, I don't think that's too far from what the actual ship more or less would be like in terms of stats. I could be totally wrong, but who knows. If there ever is a D'deridex, we'll find out then.

This ship setup is pointless, it't not effective, it serves no purpose in a balanced fleet.
Limit your discussion in the shipyard to effective setups that are designed for a useful purpose.
Coloring my ship plasma blue and calling it thematic? Please.

Why do we have to limit in this manner? From what I see, this build can be fairly effective while pugging, and gives people who like the look an option to play without gimping others too much.
As the OP said, it's not going to be min-maxed or anything, but it can still hold its own, by the looks of it, so why not let him have his fun?

Exactly what they said, and I said before, it's not meant to be the best of the best build. It's...
An experiment.
Besides, PvE in this game is so easy (as it's been stated many times before) that you can get through it with just about anything.
So it'll be nice to change it up, and do something different, and see just how it works. It could be surprisingly effective when it's done.
Also, one small edit to the build above: One of the front BAs will be taken out. I noticed that NPC D'deridexs use a DBB, so I'll be adding one of those instead.

I'd try it in an Atrox for the fact that you get more Sci slots (so you can run VM and PSW at the same time), as well as the ship looking like it was derived from the D'deridex to me, but the Warbird doesn't pack hangar pets. You could go with Elite Scorpions to match the Romulan theme, but still...
...Another thing to think about is the D'deridex Defender from the Vault. The one that got accidentally put into the list of generic Romulan battleships a couple of weeks before that event debuted. That version (or a hybrid of the two) might be better suited for emulating with the Ambassador.
Wow, I didn't think it'd been this long since I'd posted in this thread. Sorry about the necro, mods.
So, with the release of the Fleet Ambassador, I decided to really focus on getting the ECs for this thing, and I finally managed to get enough earlier and bought it.
Now, here's my build:
Equipment:
Prototype Reman Deflector
Romulan Shields and Engines (only need 250 RMs to finish the Romulan Deflector)
3 Plasma Beam Arrays Mk XI CrtD, Kinetic Cutting Beam
(The el-cheapo plasma beam arrays are just there for filler until I can afford Romulan Beam Arrays)
Consoles:
Engineering: 1 Neutronium Mk XI rare, Tachyokinetic Converter, Borg consoles, Zero-point console
Tac: 3 Plasma Infusers Mk XI rare
Sci: 3 Emitter Array Mk XI rare
(I went with Emitter Arrays because I had them already. I'll switch them to some other console if there's a better choice, especially if I can get it in Embassy-console form. Also, yes I know I am a bit squishy by running 3 universal consoles. And also if anyone wants to donate EC for better Plasma Infusers or donate better ones, that'd be much appreciated. )
BOFF layout:
Cmdr Engineer: E-power to shields 1, RSP 1, E-power to shields 3, Aux to SIF 3
Lt Cmdr Sci: HE 1, Tractor Beam 2, VM 1
Lt. Universal: Sci Team 1, TSS 2 (this is actually the Reman BOFF)
Lt. Tac: TT 1, FAW 2
Ensign Tac: TT 1
(I also have a sci BOFF with MES 1 and TSS 2 to keep with the theme and have a 'cloak' on the ship. Aside from that, I'll probably stick with VM 1 over PSW 1, because I have the DOFFs for VM and get more usage out of it as such. I do know that having PSW 1 and Nadeon is a good combo though)
DOFFs:
3 SDO
2 Systems Engineers (one to make VM affect multiple systems, one to spread it to other targets. I'd love to have another DOFF to make it spread more often though they are rather pricy)
I also bought the DS9 bundle long ago when it first came out, so I have the Romulan DOFF that gives 15 aux while cloaked, and I'll probably use that when I choose to use the MES.
On top of that, I'll be looking at getting all Romulan BOFFs for this ship (all with the same skills as above, or with any alterations you all might recommend), in order to buff my crits and also my MES cloak, and the fact that they're Romulans.
So...now that I've made it a bit more real, I'd enjoy having constructive criticisms on this. I haven't tested this out in PvP yet, but I plan on it when I consider the build to be done.

(If this gets locked for being an old necro, I understand, but I just had to post in here again.)
I am SO glad that they changed the D'deridex's BOFf layout to exactly as I was hoping. I was looking forward to flying a D'deridex, and now that it basically has the Fleet Ambassador's BOFF layout on tribble, that 101% sold me on buying the Legacy Pack.

I like the idea behind this build. Awhile ago I made my own Romulan Themed build, using a Fleet Defiant (I wanted something that could cloak) and it kicks major butt for PvE. Here's the build.
Aft: 3x Romulan Plasma Beam Array Mk XII [Acc] [Dmg]
Engineering Consoles: Borg Console, Zero-Point Energy Conduit, Tachyokinetic Converter
Science Console: 2x Emitter Array [-Th] [Pla]
Tactical: 5x Plasma Infuser Mk XI
Devices: Red Matter Capacitor, Shields Battery
The skills I usually run are AP:O3, B:OL3, B:FAW2, Tac Team 1, Tac Team 2, Torp HY3, some limited healing like Hazards 1, Eng Team 1. EPtW is a must too.
I usually squeeze out about 6500 dps in ISEs with this build. But above all, it's incredibly fun to fly. I had the Defiant cloaking console in there, but with the T5 rep power that cloaks, I replaced it with a better console.
Heh, I'd love to see that Defiant in pugs, just to watch the elitist snobs flip out at a Defiant using beams. Sweet.
I know, I was going to make a "Beams on a Defiant" comment
But seeing as how about 95% of the time I have the highest DPS in the PuG, by a factor of double the next person down, that tends to keep em quiet. When there is someone that surpasses me, those are the most fun runs. Goes down in no time!
