KDF Romulans and demeanor. Why must this be so?

When I went KDF-side with my Romulan recently, I noticed that the very second I tried to modify my uniform that his face contorted into an unbelievable scowl that I couldn't change. I feel like this is a bit unfair. I am allied with the KDF. That doesn't necessarily mean that I should automatically become surly. And, to my knowledge, there is no way to change my expression (such as the way there is in Champions), so I am left feeling a little irritated. I spent a great deal of time tweaking the character to look unique and presentable from my other characters as far as his fac goes and it seems unnecessary that He should become angry just because he's allied with the KDF. If I had gone Fed, would he be grinning like an idiot?

    Yeah this is a known bug, some part of me thinks it was done for an "lol" factor.
