I own 50 keys on live servers, I decided I would transfer a charicter over to the test server and move the keys into the shared bank before deleting the charicter and tranfering it again. This allowed me to stockpile 400 keys and lockboxes.
The test charicter now has roughly 2000 lobi: number of lockbox ships?
29 mirror ships
298 mining claims (1.5 million dil (at 5k dil a day, taking the best part of a year to redeem))
Zero very rare ships.
If you want a very rare ship, it doesnt take Einstien to work out its better to just sell the keys.
I've heard - and this might just be paranoid ramblings - that after a certain number of ships have been won, the odds begin to tail off to stop just everyone getting one (i.e. Cryptic only want a small minority to have the very rare ships).
50 is a tiny winny sample for a random number generator.
If you were to redo this exercise, the results will be different.
Actually, why don't you try it again? flush your character and transfer it again, who knows you may end-up with 5 very rare ships.

RNG, gotta love 'em!
Thanks for reading, it was 400 not 50.
I do plan on doing it again but I believe 400 was sufficent to disuade me on actualy using the keys on a live server.
I did this test for my own benefit and posted results for those interested in reading it, as you didnt read the full first post I'll take it for granted you dont count...
Well, Id say lately Ive been lucky then, dropped 2 Jem carriers, over 400 dil claims, plenty of mirror ships, Ive got DOffs to last a lifetime and I didnt open 400 lockboxes to obtain the stuff.
When the bugships were dropping though, I opened 10 packs, dropped a bug, then a friend of mine did it straight after.
1001 emails and messages later all saying pretty much the same, 'Sell it for 10mil EC?', reply something along the lines of 'only 340mil short!'
But hey, Im still using it.
You can't really do a test on an RNG, even a programmed RNG, unless you are going to go into silly numbers of unlocks. In comparison 400 is actually quite a low number. Even then it will still be a best guess.
I can only speak more from WoW as I have played that the longest and I know the items a mob drops are set on spawn, not death like some think. People have complaigned when farming a mount that they have done 100 runs and the mount has 1% drop chance that they should have gotten one by now. Some replied they are on farming run 400 and still waiting and others had said they got it on the first or other such low number run. However it is not a drop chance, it is a 1% chance when the mob spawns that it will be with the mount, that means there is a 99% chance that it won't, and this is not cumulative it is each time.
Many moons ago I opened two Cardy boxes, the first game me a boost, I think it was XP, the second gave me the Galor. Others had said they had opened hundreds and not recieved the Galor.
Ive been lucky ive opened about 50 boxs n got jem escort ship. I got it the 1st day the dom lockbox came out 2 of my kdf fleet mates did as well + 4 fed fleet mates i think because more ppl open them in 1st 24 hours of new box coming out u have a higher chance ov getting a ship
