Emergancy power to shields needs to be a toggle.

Hello

Edit; with that I mean the shield distribution mechanic. Wonder why it doesn't allow us to edit the thread title.

Lets talk about the shield distribution mechanic. Does anyone else feel it could be improved by making it a toggle instead of a 5 second ability?

As a tank, it gets very annoying having to press my left or right shield every 5 seconds. A toggle would be a huge quality of life improvement.

Use tactical team. It auto distributes your shields. Emergency Power to Shields only heals all shields equally and adds extra power to the Shields subsystem.

every non-targettable ability should be a toggle

Most players, bind general shield distribution to a key so that they are continuously balancing the shields.

I would strongly recommend you do this, as well as using tactical team. It will help you to live a lot longer in combat, particularly PvP.

I would just bind the emergency powers that I need with the spacebar
    example : /bind space "GenSendMessage HUD_Root FirePhasers $$ +trayexec 0 0 $$ +trayexec 0 1"

This would fire off the emergency power if you have both copy's into the first and second slots

I really wish they would make the emergency powers to x be a real emergency power

Lets say if you use it when your above 50% hull it would be normal X% but if you were below 50% hull it would double the X% kind of like how the new go down fighting is.

YES! I get extremely annoyed by the stupid 5 second thing. I really do not want to have to hold down my shield distribute button all day when TT is in cooldown to save my butt. Why can't I just give the order and have my crew keep it up until I say otherwise?

I mean TT would not even be that useful anymore if shields distributed on a toggle. As things are now if you are in the heat of battle and do not have TT running you are dead and there is little you can do about it.

I'd say it somewhat defeats the point of it being an emergency power if it can be always-on.

Now eng/tac/sci teams, those make sense on a toggle, likewise with shield facings

Nothing a small change to the name couldn't fix. Just remove the "emergency" part.

rename it to Standby Power or something... who cares... its the power that Scotty was able to pull out of the air when Kirk needed more.

And you know, Kirk didnt keep barking "emergency power to the shields! Now to the weapons! Back to the shields!"

Just turn them on, have power recharge to other systems be reduced to compensate, and there you go

Keybinds are your friends here. Keybind the shield distribution to your fire button.

Honestly, I could get passed the key pounding, if said pounding redistributed the shields as fast as TT does. But, it doesn't. So, as mentioned earlier, yeah, you really need TT if you are going against a heavy hitter. And to really have your butt covered, you need two copies of TT. The problem there is, if you are in certain cruisers and you want two copies of TT, well that's all you are getting, because you only have two tac Boffs slots.

Part of why cruisers come off as weak is because they get fewer tactical Boff abilities to enhance their weapons. Then, you have to go and blow 2 of those precious slots on TT, just so you can stay alive.

^This... TT is waaay too valuable and utterly required thanks to this problem. It is really pathetic when your ship has to use up all its worthwhile tactical abilities on two instances of one skill that barely does a thing to help you deal damage.

Also, TT is the only skill besides HE that I ever find that I would want or need two copies of... That is somewhat sad as well.

Personally I'd like to see auto-distribution made into a feature of assigning a Shield Distribution officer to your ship, with Tactical Team merely functioning as a way to boost the speed of the effect, ideally requiring both in order to get to the current level of effectiveness, though maybe also allow power transfer to effect it (so a pure tank could still get strong auto-distrubition by having high power transfer.

But yeah; the problem with manual distribution is that auto-distribution exists, otherwise it's fine since its main usefulness at the moment is to balance your shields when not taking damage.

As a tank I'm always taking damage. I have TT but only one copy of it. I rather not lose my Beam FAW :

When I first saw this thread I thought, no.
But, the more I think about it, it actually sounds kind of cool.
Cruisers where supposed to have a bigger warp core and a higher power output than escorts and science ships, but the reality is that it's usually just 5 more power to a subsystem.

Could do something like a cruiser only ability that lets you dump your auxiliary power into a selected subsystem and give it a bonus 5-20 power into a subsystem and get a slight bonus to that subsystem. Could be placed in the same spot where carrier and some science vessels get the target subsystem buttons. Cruisers would then only get 15 power to a predetermined subsystems (like most escorts and science vessels) but would then have the freedom to decide where to put the extra 10 power (for a net gain of 5 extra power over current).

    Auxiliary power to weapons:
increases weapon power by 10. Your beam weapons hit with such force that there is a 2% chance to knock your target back a few yards and disable non shield subsystems for 2 seconds (would probably have its own cooldown time like phaser weapon proc).

    Auxiliary power to shields:
Increase shield power by 10. Your shields have a 2.5% percent chance to completely deflect an energy attack and a 2.5% chance to reduce the damage from a kinetic attack by 50%. Reduces crew injuries and crew deaths by 50% while shield facing is active.

    Auxiliary power to engines:
Increase engine power by 10. Increase your speed and turn rate by 5%. Snare and immobilizing effects will not reduce you below 25% of normal speed.

    Auxiliary power to auxiliary:
Increase auxiliary power by 10. Increases stealth detection by 10%. Increases healing effectiveness by 5%. Lowers the duration of disabled subsystem by 25%.

Would probably put in a cool down between switching subsystem powers. When you disable one auxiliary power to switch to another there would be a 10-15 second switch time.

Like I said, just thinking about what could have been :).
