Federation Cloak

With Romulan BOffs from embassy which give us 5 sec cloak on any ship why we can't get Defiant cloaking console be universal for any ship (we already have proper cloaking animation for them).

To all raging Klingons, you will still have advantage while your cloak don't request console slot so you have one more to use.

Listen to the recent Podcast UGC interview with Geko and you'll get your answer:
VA level ships all have an ability that is unique to them to seperate them from other ships.
Thus you won't get a Vesta with the Intrepid armor and no ship besides the Defiant and Dreadnought Galaxy gets the cloak.

so cant I have the vesta's hangar, with a console that allows cloaking while giving invincibility like the intrepid's console for my bugship? life is unfair...

    Actually, a point to fix:

Romulan BOFFs don't give a cloak, some of them reduce the cooldowns on cloak, while others enhance the effectiveness of cloaking abilities.

The tier 5 rep power gives the few second cloaking ability.

As one of those 'raging Klingons', I'll avoid boring everyone with the normal arguments and just ask the question I've started asking: Why?

What would this change DO for you? Cloaking is not the end-all be-all of consoles. It's a nice tactical advantage, but it's not exactly like it makes you have god-mode. It doesn't actually add that much despite what most people seem to think.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

What annoyed me was that the cloak console from my recently purchased Galaxy-X (before anyone mentions it i know it's a hog but i like it nonetheless) cannot be fitted on a regular defiant. Only the C-store defiants can use it.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I never actually tried that because I don't have the Galaxy-X (interesting that the designation from "Birth of the Federation" is to this day more common that any other name I ever heard for it) but my guess would be the cloak is considered to be a "VA item".

Ask all BoPs in PvP to not cloak and see how long they last and how many times they can pull off their alphas without it. Zirac, Mini and lots of other copycats would then have to build BoPs that can dog fight rather than ambush. In a time of war the idea that the Federation would cling to an outdated and ridiculous treaty and not use the technology they have plundered to their advantage is totally laughable and the only reason cloaks are not more widely spread in the Fed ranks is because the Klinks would rage quit and take their money with them.

Well ok fine then all the hulls of the Bops would have to be increased from 24kish to 33kish to match the other escorts

the low hull is to offset the cloak

Plus the only have 4 boff slots and 6 weapons

    Ask all BoPs

Bird of Prey has a battle cloak. Nothing on the federation side has a battle cloak. I think your comparison would work better if you tried to compare fed ships with cloaks to Klingon Battle Cruisers (Galaxy X vs. a Battle Cruiser) and Raptors (the Defiant versus a Raptor). Those KDF ships have a cloak comparable to what the two fed ships have.

Birds of Prey are different. Removing their cloak would require a redesign of the ship in terms of weapon slots and defensive capabilities.

Heh. Nah. Just reading the forums while waiting for healthcare to arrive at the house to help me redress wounds. This week sucks already.

I gave up ages ago trying to rationalize things that happen in this game with the stuff I watch on the shows. Cryptic does its own thing most of the time. And even their best explanations feel like square pegs in round holes.

Hey, hope you'll get better soon.

The insane thing about this whole cloaking business is that they had this elaborate piece in their "Path to 2409" background about the Federation President stating that even after Romulus blew up the Federation would stand by the Treaty of Algeron and that he'd sign an executive order banning cloaking tech...and we get Fed ships with cloaks.

Funny thing is that both the Defiant and the Galaxy-X were also in "Birth of the Federation" without the cloaking device.
And it didn't seem to bother anyone back then.
So given that the two timelines ("All Good Things" and STO) are similar but not identical they could have included a VA Defiant and the Dreadnought Galaxy without them like BotF did...but didn't.
And it would have actually been consistent with their own storyline...

Sorry I'm running out of confused emotes.

what the majority of Feds who want a cloak really want is a Battle cloak - it's the only usefull cloak in pvp

and that is never going to happen

rarely do you see non-bops re-cloaking during pvp as there is no time to go off red alert as you will most likely be chased down.

To all the feds whiners, you now have battle cloak and enhanced battle bloak. It's called the Romulans. Stop your griping.

Actually I would be happy if those fed ships that have access to cloak, would not pay console slot for it.

there is a very simple reason as to why they can. the defiant fanboys would cry like a bunch of teen girls at a twilight movie if the defiant didn't cloak regardless if one and only one could in cannon(2nd defiant never got a replacement in show)
