Crystal Entity - phase cues?

royalsovereignroyalsovereign Member Posts: 1,344 Arc User
OK, I tend to just solo - not just in STO but in previous (now-deceased) MMOs, mainly because I play in short chunks and often have to bail on very short notice. So I don't often get to do the queued events simply because I don't like to leave people hanging if the wife needs me to listen to her prattle on endlessly about something. ;)

I try to at least learn about these events, just in case I get an hour or two to try one. Which brings me to my question. How do you know when the Crystal Entity moves into absorb phase, and when it's about to spew it all back out? I gather from something I read that there is an audio cue, but is there anything else? Since I generally have to manage spousal aggro more than mob aggro, I play with no sound almost exclusively. In fact, my main computer at home doesn't even have a sound card at all.

(Look, honey, I can't be playing a computer game. This is my *work* computer - it doesn't' even have *sound* on it!)

There is also a text notification, that flies onto the screen at both events. Just like the 'SoandSo' has just received the 'current lock box ship' notification.

There's a text box that appears telling you it's entering the phase.

ALSO, above the CE's nametag will be a moving bar titled "Absorbing" so you can even time when you want to move out of range, or just hit brace for impact and suck up the energy blast with just a tickle.

    1st phase 63%
    2nd phase 33%

i typically start moving out of range within 3% of that target.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Have you tried not bothering? Hit brace for impact, polarize hull, EPTS1 and evasive and you'll lose like 5-25% hull tops. The only time I move out of range is if I have less than 50% hull and weak shields.

It's triggered at 66% and 33% Health respectively. There is nothing stopping anyone from continued fire however, other than some minor adjustments towards the damage of it's pulse, but it's health will continue to drop during Absorption.

The range of the pulse is around 10km..

Depends how many people keep focusing on the entity and ignore the new wave of Tholians, I've been taken out through full hull and high shields with heavy buffs when most of the group ignores the phase.

Thing is, even if people do that, it still works. The shockwave hits the Tholians, too, clears most of them out, and you'll all respawn long before the entity regenerates a meaningful amount of health.

If I hit all defense skills one of my shield goes down and my hull goes from 100% to 98, thats about it...

My record: 8 ships blowing up by the blast in CE, and me down to 98, the other guy was damaged before the blast and got out of range and was a few km behind me, healed him up,charged weapons and engaged the CE again :D

hehe, so you are one of those people that do not know when it is absorbing. I have been wondering why people continue to fire on it when it is absorbing and just going to spew that energy back out. Now I know, they have no clue what is going on.

Yes, yes, it's easy for us, "tanks", but not so easy for DPS focused Tac captains on escort ships... :P

I am not always looking at the upper portion if the screen to see that text message. I for one wouldn't mind an audio cue or even an outright voice message, like they do for Starbase Defense*.

Since it only occurs 2 or 3 times, it won't be as annoying as the dude in Starbase Defense telling me about the outlying facility being attacked... over and over...
