So is plasma beams/cannons the Romulan Republic weapon of choice now?

Topic says it all, while the rest of the RSE/Tal Shiar is using disruptors which is canon weapons for romlulans along with the plasma torps, the Republic seems to be using strictly plasma weapons? Im curious as to why this is, seems a young republic struggling to build would not waste time and effort switching to a new weapons system that must now be installed on what ships they have available when they broke away from the RSE. If plasma is indeed their weapon of choice can you at least make the beams less awful to look at? lol Those beautiful green hulls firing that torquoise? not sure what color it is to be sure but not sure im a big fan of it. Also the sounds for it could use some improvement.

ps mean to say "so are plamsa beams/cannons...."

Yes, I predict a short term spike in the use of plasma based weapons.

I'm guessing it's because Cryptic wants to set the Romulans apart from the other factions as much as possible (the alliance structure notwithstanding) so they didn't want their "default" weapon type to be the same as the KDF's.

It actually seems like a logical progression in technology to me. If you have plasma torps and there are plasma beam/cannon weapons, it would seem more efficient to have all your weapons be plasma based so that you can be firing plasma out of your main weapons and pour some plasma into a bottle and chuck it out the airlock as a molotov plasma cocktail torp. Plus the borg use plasma weapons and the romulans have been experimenting with borg tech, so that would seem another logical progression in their technology courtesy of the borg.

And since the Rom Rep progression and all the Embassy toys are storyline derived from Republican tech, it makes sense that the Republic is actually using that plasma-based tech.

Well, they aren't 'pure' plasma weapons: they're Hybrid weapons that incorporate both Plasma and disruptor technology; There's precendent for that: Starfleet had plans for 'Plasma Phasers' as an Anti-Borg weapon, as brought up by Shelby in the 'Best of Both Worlds'

I figure the Romulan (republic) plasma (disruptor) hybrid weapons could have come about because of three major things:

1: In-game, Vulcan ships use Plasma weapons. D'Tan is a Reunificationist and supports embracing Vulcan ideology; it's unsurprising if that also includes including Vulcan Technology across the board, ergo, they combine it with their Disruptors, and get the benefits of both.

2: Borg also use Plasma weapons, and we know that the Romulan Star Empire and elements of the Tal'Shiar were seeking to incorporate Borg technology into their ships; This could easily include weapons, and it could also be something the Romulan Republic got hold of and adopted themselves.

3: Romulans have always Had a hand in Plasma projectiles; the Plasma Torpedo is infamously a trademark Romulan staple weapon; It makes perfect sense to diversify that if they can; it may be they have only been able to do so to their satisfaction (as compared to Disruptors) recently (perhaps in relation to the first 2 points)
