Yep, time for that thread. I found a good deal on a collector's edition and popped for it, now I have Red Matter thingies on all my ships. Seems to be very good for my beam cruiser, gives lots of punch where its really needed and stacks nicely with the EPS boost. Also a nice boost to shields, and slightly improved manueverablity due to thruster boost. But, I like having shield batteries and the Neutronium energy drink available. So... what are the smart people using as their default set?

    Here is mine, when I only have two slots I use the first two listed.
    Subspace Field Modulator, Red Matter Capacitor, Device - Heavy Satellite Turret

    Subspace field modulator is really good.
    Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.

    Depends on the build. Most time, it's a complimentary battery and some Deuterium Surplus. Ground, definitely hypos and my Shard of Possibilities. Always a good time for reinforcements.

    the Radio Shack website is selling the STO Special Edition for $10 right now. So, if you ever wanted that Red Matter Capacitor now would be a good time to get it. They aren't shipping internationally though. Sorry about that to our European friends. Otherwise you'll have to use the universal console off the T1 500 Zen Science Ship. Its abilities are similar to the RMC, but it can't be equipped in a device slot.

    IF there are more slots... it depends what *consumable* i just happen to have handy,
    everything that can be consumed will be consumed, so i don't even bother getting it.

    Consumables are temporary and i don't p(l)ay for temporary.

    ....
    on Ground: Hypo, Shard, Horta, Pimpcane .... got a hand full of consumable combat Mugato on my KDFs, i sometimes unleash one for the lols, but many of them have spawned inside the ground unable to move, these really should have been the Vet Reward instead of this useless PET that, thank god, no one is using anymore.

    I dont like the Subspace Field Modulator for a couple of reasons. First is that its unique per character so I cant mount it on every ship all the time--I have to carry it around between them, and that's not going to happen. Second is that the hit to protons makes the Tholian web (?) do a lot more damage, and usually when I'm trapped in a web is when I start looking for my oh-sh!! buttons, so this would make that worse. I could deal with the second problem if the first problem didnt exist, but together they make it really undesirable as one of my goto devices. I'm still interested in hearing other opinions, but for the moment I am sticking to shield batteries in slot #1 swapping them with turrets and pets and other toys as needed, and RMC on #2 for full-time use.

    ground: balloon popper until they made it stick u to the ground unable to move for the duration. but now i use hypos and have a med team follow me everywhere

    my 2 (or 3) cents:

    Aux Batteries (running an aux2bat build atm)
    Shields / Engine Batteries if cheap on xch, else only shields batt
    scorpion fighters


    Now all I need to do is not to forget about them all the time!
