Hello fellow PvPers
for the last few months i been watching on organized pvp channel and to the feedback given by alot of the boot camp students and i found that the biggest complaints are that the sessions are once a month and not everybody who wants to attend and get that training can, the make up sessions are usually just once a month as well which makes it very hard for people to catch up, and the training is only 2 hrs long and it does not give the coaches enough time to really go over everything.
So that being said,
Myself and a few other coaches / assistant coaches and a hand full of experienced pvp players will be starting up a pvp training fleet later this month.
-We will follow the exact same curriculum the boot camp does except we will spend a entire week on each stage. which allows people to come and train at their own pace and their own time.
-As far as make up session, you can make them up at any point in the month we will set up the fleet ranks to separate who is at what stage
-It should take about 1 week to complete each stage, could be faster or longer depends on how much a person participates.
-We will only allow 200 student at a time, once a group moves past stage 4 or is removed from the fleet for what ever reason new slots will open up and we make posts trying to fill those spots.
==How to join==
-We are working on a website currently, but for now if you are interested please post your handler on this thread and one of us will get in touch with you asap.. you would be required to bring a character into the fleet, either move a character you already have or create another just for the training.
-If you are a PvPBC coach and would like to donate your time and help out or if you feel like you are a skilled enough player and want to help out please contact me at

==Curriculum==Stage 1:
A. Basic Knowledge of Careers/Ships (Eng/Sci/Tac, cruiser/sci-ship/escort/destroyer)
- What does a(n) Eng/Sci/Tac officer do?
- What does a cruiser/sci-ship/escort/destroyer do? What are some common misconceptions about these different builds? Is science really useless in PvP?
B. User Interface
- Keybind basics (redistribute shields bound to spacebar, function keys tied to teammates, etc.).
- targeting controls
- Power Levels
Stage 2:
A. Build
- Basic understanding of the skill tree and what the various skills do/do not do
- Basic understanding of weapon types and their abilities
- Basic understanding of how DOFFS contribute to PvP
- Basic understanding of consoles, their powers, and what they do
- What consoles, BOFF abilities, etc. are useful/useless in PvP?
- Cooldowns
- What is the difference between a pre-made and a PUG-made build? What questions should I have in mind when building for these two purposes?
- Basic understanding of weapons and of damage types (e.g., spike dmg/non-spike dmg)
B. Basic Knowledge of Captain/BOFF Abilities
A. Knowledge of buffs/debuffs/counters
Stage 3:
A. Flying
- Knowledge of when/how evasive should be used
- How should an escort, cruiser, science ship fly?

Stage 4:
1. Students receive individual feedback from coaches on their next steps as PvP players.
2. Graduation
** We still suggest individuals still attend the boot camp events, they are very informative and helpful.. this training program is for those who wish to receive that training but have problems coming on those specific dates and times or those who want more hands on training**

PaxOttomana: gawd mirror event is like fighting a tsi premade, they keep comin and comin!
Regardless I don't think a PVP training fleet is feasible. Most people getting into PVP are likely going to do it with their first/main character. And more often then not he/she/it will be in a fleet already.

2010: This is Cryptic PvP. Please hold the line, your call is very important to us...
This is a side project myself and a few others wanted to play around with, boot camp is a fantastic program, but there are alot of people who cant attend who want, and its once a month alot of the pvp fleets such as TSI, TRH, Critz, their in house training programs are more effective because they are not once a month they are training everyday, and a few of US wanted to try and make that kind of pvp training available to every one.
And it is possible, just need to get a good staff togeather, there are 4 of us so far we been working on a good solid system to.run off of.. i have alot of confidence in this..
We did talk about shortening it to 3 week long program, take a week off then do it again
Thanks for this post, Arwin. This is a really cool idea, and one that I know others (e.g., Mimey) have considered in the past. Given our positive personal relationship, I hope we will be able to collaborate a bit in the future. I know that Arwin has put a great deal of thought into this project and I am quite certain it will be a success, assuming he can find some eager young students, which I think will be more than possible.
Just so that boundaries are absolutely clear: I personally support Arwin in this undertaking and commend him for taking on such an important project. Boot Camp, like Arwin's new fleet, is committed to educating PvP'ers. I am also delighted to see that the curriculum will be used, though I also hope that Arwin and friends will feel free to offer us suggestions on how to improve it. Arwin's fleet, however, is a separate entity from Boot Camp, and I only request from the leaders of Arwin's fleet that they refrain from using "Boot Camp" in their fleet name, if only to avoid institutional confusion.
Good work, Arwin. You are a passionate leader with a great vision for PvP. Thanks for sharing it with the community.
Like sargon said we are a separate entity, the only connection that we have is that the founding members of this program are coaches who do the boot camp, and we will continue to do so i have no intentions to stop helping out with it. I have a great deal of respect for sargon for creating it.
Right now we are just looking for people to help out n volunteer, also looking for community feedback, and for supporters.
One suggestion: Make your training times public, Arwin, so that people in the PvP community can drop in and learn when they are available. This might make for a bit of a revolving-door feeling to your fleet, but I think it would ultimately be a positive thing. The more cross-fleeting interaction we can foster the better.
In addition, I hope you will consider using the Boot Camp Team Speak from time to time, or perhaps even regularly. The BC TS has become a bit of a community hub, and I would like to encourage that.
And i actually wanted to talk to you about using the TS, for our training and i approciate you allowing us to use it.
I would like to help you. If you need me, of course. However, I cannot promise you that I can join with one of my characters. But will see. I have many, but only 2-3 is really up to PvP yet.
Please let me know that in which things I can help you.
See you in the queues.
even if you do not have a toon in the fleet, there are many ways you can help out.. we are working on a enjin website. could always use your expertise in our forums, post builds and suggestions. also we with those who are BC coaches we will allow them to train students without really being in the fleet, but students must put a toon in the fleet so we can keep track of them and sort who is at what level of training and such..
on the weekends i think we will offer a open training event where non fleet members can get training and help with their builds and learning how to PvP..
As far as a name goes, i think we are going to go with "The PvP Academy"
Okay, as I said, I will see how my works allow it. Of course I will assist as many ways as I can to the students. I can offer my build creation skills with descriptions to that website's forum, also teaching on TS.
Except for this Satuday night (GMT +2, my time), I will be able to be on those open events approximately at any time on the weekends.
I hope, it is enough at the moment. In addition, I can offer that the students can disturb me with any problems they have with their builds. I will do my best!
See you in queues!
I personally would have no problem taking a handful aside and getting them caught up, and I know of quite a few off-hand that wouldn't mind either. We just need to know who is complaining about the schedule, and when would be a good time to bring them up to speed.
In my opinion, all this is going to do is cause collisions between the two entities, and make something tried, strong and successful like the existing PVP Boot Camp, have unnecessary competition. We're all after the same thing, lets just expand on the existing program, and avoid all the confusion and hassle. Don't fix what isn't broken.
Last night me and a few of the founders got togeather and we discussed some of the objections made by reg, legion and a few others and this is what we came up with.
Our program will be called The PvP Academy, we will not be creating a pvp training fleet, we will just run everything off our website and we will offer tuesday and thursday pvp training sessions for all the attend. We will post on our website what classes we will be teaching that day. For example on Tuesday we could do ship building and cross healing courses, and thursday escorts101 or something like that. Each week we will offer different stuff and ways to do make ups.
Also, i would like to work with sargon and hopefully work something out where a few times a month we could offer make up sessions for the boot camp, there are alot of people who want to make up what they missed and i would like to sit down one day with you and work on a way we can help you with that.
Every saturday and sunday we will host fleet vs fleet and open pvp battles and possibly leauge tournaments, the leauge battles we would be keeping a record of the wins n losses of the teams in the leauge, there will be no real prizes other then getting saying hey were #1 in the leauge.. Not 100% if we will start some kind of leauge or not but we will be doing open battles n such soon.
Like i said before, we wont be forming a fleet we will run things off our website and the STO forums. I think having people put toons in our fleet as a requirement would decrease the amount of people who would want to join in, so everything we do will be public events.
I am hoping to have our site up by next week, our forums are full of ship builds and important character building information and pvp tips and tricks i look forward to sharing them with the community.
Look forward to hearing your feedback.
