I'm sure this must have been answered elsewhere, I've tried scanning through the various Q&As along with many of the threads but theres something that doesn't make sense to me.
A Romulan captain who allies with the Fed has full access to Fed ships and Romulen ships; what's the point in being a Fed captain? As far as I can tell other then the uniform you just end up with less choice?
Fed Captains get Fed Missions. Roms can only do Fed Missions if allied with a Fed and teaming with them.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
No, but nothing really matters at end-game. Who cares if you're a Rom captain flying a Odyssey at end-game. It's just the the same grind over and over - plus Roms lose bonuses when flying non-Cloaking ships.

Yes, Fed Captains do not get a Cloaking bonus Trait.
And the real choice is the Mission journey you want to take to end-game. If how you get there doesn't matter then Cryptic should just let people start at level 50.
As far as getting extra ships, it's really Cryptic trying to save you some money. They're specifically trying to let players get more use out of the hundreds of dollars worth of C-Store ships they've already purchased - rather than needing to spend hundreds more on Rom-only ships. So all those T1-T5 ships you bought can still have some life.

An interesting perspective, I've spent a lot (I really shouldn't have looked... 757.95 euros...); have four lock box ships, many C-Store ships and many bound purple Mark XII consoles. As far as I can tell, for all endgame intents and purposes my captain will soon simply be a worse version of a Romulan with the same unlocks.
I appreciate some people may enjoy the story missions and garner some enjoyment from that variety but alas that's not where I (and I appreciate I am not the player base) get my enjoyment from STO.

It just seems strange to make a choice at the start if you would rather more or less ship options in the endgame.

So guess the Feds remain

Ah well.
