First Contact day

I mean seriously, for those of us who already have the damn phoenix we are pretty much getting nothing? I mean the point of having a special item through a special event is that IT DOESN'T COME BACK the same time next year.

SERIOUSLY?!?!?! you couldn't come up with something new and at least unique to this day?

I was certainly hoping for a C-store sale like last year. Guess the Zen hoarding continues.

Because they'd totally tell us in advance of a sale.

All MMOs tend to have the same annual holiday events each year. It's the norm for the industry. Not everyone currently playing today was here last year.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

You get something new. It's called play the KDF instead of 1 faction and maybe you would have more to do.

You do know we couldn't have any events at all right? They could just stop updating right now. Be happy they even do anything before a major release.

Exactly. I bet they are busy with the may update too, but I have to admit I was hoping they'd bring back the IDIC tribble already.

yea great for the KDF I actually am going to get something for that, but like the aniversary of STO they at least have new Poppers each year, how bout instead of the phoenix again we get cochranes jacket?

Plus it's not like they have this thing popping up just before a major release, they have the release popping up after this one, they do this first contact day celebration every year.

Those saying there are people here now that weren't here last year DUH! but giving everyone the same item as last year is like being on a tour and picking people up mid way and then thinking "oh they didn't get to see the stuff we already did, then going back on the tour to have those people do something everyone else on the tour already did and holding back the tour."

for one thing if you were one of the people on that tour before the mid hoppers came on board you'd be a little miffed that instead of moving forward you're going back.

I hope the Enterprise crew will have something new to say. The spoiler in the Captain's Table hasn't been updated for ages.

The devs are hard at work at our upcoming expansion, Legacy of Romulus. While this is a massive undertaking, we still wanted to run our First Contact day event because it's a great chance to celebrate Trek history. We even had a chance to create a a brand-new Klingon-themed event where you will meet the crew of the KDF flagship and receive a special reward in celebration of the Day of Honor.

If you received the Phoniex last year, awesome! We have new players that didn't have a chance and many existing players with new characters that would also like to get it.

We also have another event planned for the second-half of the month; stay turned for more details.

    Cheers,

    Brandon =/\=

I think getting a bat'leth for my Klingon characters and a Phoenix pet for my Fed characters created after last year's event is nice enough.

My complaint about FC Day is the Bajoran NPC on the station who waxes smug about how she has evolved past the Bajoran religion and holds all these enlightened values because of it.

This is an alien culture that has focused on its particular faith before man even existed. If you are religious man had not been created and if you believe we came from apes than at that point man was still dragging knuckles and was too busy picking it's nose to realize that it could use a cave as shelter or use a tree branch as a weapon.

What were Bajorans doing? Exploring the effing galaxy. One hundred thousand years ago. They are one of the galaxy's oldest civilizations in the Trek universe and we have this NPC thinking she is oh so superior for "not falling for that old trick."

It really breaks the wall of Trek lore. Sure, there might be Bajoran atheists, but this is a culture where one can literally talk to their gods by visiting a temple and touching an orb. An atheist in that type of culture is someone who is stubborn, not educated.

Not trying to start a real world religious crapstorm here, just thinking in-universe.

Because she smart enough to know they are not gods, but Aliens...just like Q is not a god, or Star Fleet is a God to ancient cave man.

So Kira, both Kais, the ministers who were all privy to Starfleet's reports that the Prophets were called aliens? They still held faith. Just because we consider them to be alien does not mean we can discount the belief structure of the Bajorans. We know precisely **** about the wormhole aliens.

StarFleet was being nice so they could join the Federation, had it been Kirk he would have exposed the them as frauds, and taken the wormhole.

What we know is they live outside of time, are of Bajor, and don't have a Corporeal Form....they know the future by going into the past and indirectly telling the Bajorans of event to come...they are not magic, they have technology that we just don't understand, just like Warp drive is to a less advance species.

My theory is they are Bajorans from the future who shed their Corporeal Form, and use the Wormhole to communicate to their past selves.

I'm not saying its aliens but it's aliens

Obviously the devs have been busy with the crazy number of missions, ships, redos, and tweaks for LoR, but is there any chance that the broken Ambassador perks will be fixed in the near future? The First Contact Day stuff reminded me that I haven't been able to do First Contact missions for a very long time and from what I understand the voting system thing never worked. I know it was the same mission basically over and over with different NPCs, but it was a neat little feature that made all the Diplomacy grinding feel more worth while.

Tacofangs is addressing the exploration missions in another thread, but maybe those and the Acamar mission could be used as templates to add variety to the First Contact missions. Rather than just meeting on your ship, maybe meeting on their ship, base, or planet. I include the Acamar mission because maybe you could add a change to hostile if you pick all the wrong insulting choices, or a small random chance of this new race's enemy crashing the party.

Heck, you could maybe even flesh out the Ambassador/Diplomacy/Exploration stuff to include a reputation system. Perhaps you could work your way up to establishing an embassy on their planet. Similar to setting the uniforms for fleets, maybe you could create the costume/skin templates that the race uses, pick from some default personalities, and default planet and city types. As I'm writing this, it sort of sounds like the Nemesis system from what I remember in my days on Champions. You wouldn't just be another Fed Ambassador with no assignment, you would have a race that you would be responsible for getting to know and bring into the UFP. On the KDF side, perhaps it would be more subjugation focused with you being more of a governor.

Anyways, just some thoughts. Mainly, I'd like the First Contact missions to be fixed soon, then I drifted off into dream world. :P

I couldn't agree more... at least with the first part. Done "Frist Contact" once or twice and then *bam*, lost it since mid-october.

Ok, so why did my post about the broken First Contact missions for diplomats get merged with a thread discussing the rewards of the First Contact Day annual mission? Did someone just see First Contact and slam the merge button?
