MAD - this is how things escalate (Traits feedback)

It doesn't matter if we're feds or kdf or a romulan fraction, the thing is every time we get new abilities, so do the players or npcs we fight.

We get shiny new ray guns, they get a new ray gun, we get the ability to make the sun go nova, they already launched their attack on the sun...

So we're getting 8... count em, 8 toon traits that's going to make our player characters ridiculous by current standards, coupled with reputation project traits and abilities... then comes the calls for nerfs and rebalance... the borg get a 360 torp spread that bypasses shields, feds and klinks wont decloak to attach each other so they bomb the sun....

these are starting to get out of hand. The cycle of Mutually Assured Destruction needs to find a happy medium and stick there... a lvl 50 toon should only be slightly better than a level 49 toon but I see it way out of whack comparatively. Do we really need to build nukes when a bullet can kill someone just as dead?

Bullets kill individuals. Nukes kill cities. It takes too long to kill a city with bullets. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

The mutually assured destruction escalation ends when all parties are mutually dead.

well no, maybe not but the point im making the more OP craptic makes our toons, the more OP they're going to make the end game npc's to compensate... its a bit of a moot point to do it at all, and the changes throw PVP out of whack as if its not already skewed enough.

Welcome to MMO 'mudflation' (the term comes from the old test MUD days) - which has been the bane of every MMO since Ultima Online and Ever Quest. If a Dev has found a solution to this trend as an MMO ages; they haven't shared that info with any MMO developer to date.

As long as the power creeps equally for every one, it's not really much of a problem.

In the short run, players will feel like bigger badasses, and in the long run, new content will come along that challenges the newly badass players.

I thought that the only constant was bureaucratic mentality. :D

The issue here is overstated. There were already people with four space traits. There were already people with four ground traits.

This just puts people on equal footing.

I have to agree that these little heres and theres are leading up to another power creep.

We already are seeing it to a great extent with the Reputation system when Season 7 went online, that Elite STFs are far easier then they use to be....almost too easy. (People actually soloing STFs).

Now we got Tholian Reputation, Warp Core, and Traits adding more little heres and theres.

I won't be surprised around Season 9 that Cryptic is forced to make a new level of difficulty that's more challenging than Elite.

there we go breaking the game again. they should focus on fixing the game's core mechanics first before trying to revamp an already broken game. this will most certainly lead to more broken TRIBBLE than before, which will take them forever and a day if ever to fix.

it's bad enough that half the developers that they've brought on in the past year and a half are still trying to "learn" the system, you throw this TRIBBLE on there and things are gonna get messed up even more. with all the bugs that we've seen as well as their respective response to these bugs, it's no wonder no real progress gets done.

get your act together man. youre just embarrassing yourself now.

a fresh lvl 50 toon should be considerabely gimped in comparison to a 2 years old, played lvl 50 toon

also, i don't like the class specific traits

One can only hope beyond hope that while they are in there they finally fix eng and sci, cruiser and science ships because they seriously need a rework. Beams and crew to repair ratios too.

    Hey I can dream can't I?!

You're right about the power creep, we got one big one on these mini bombs with cruiser hulls flying around all over the place. It's really sad they'll let that continue unhindered, maybe they've learned and will fix the escorts defense issues too.

I get it, cryptic wants to do as little work as possible, rev up the pr machine and rake in cash. All this is will ultimately do is shoot themselves in the foot as they'll have to go back later on and try to fix it *cough*[Borg] weapons... but they wont be able to so they'll just try to cover it up with something even more fancy schmancy and further complicate matters.

There is an alternative to power creep. Instead of new powers and passives, unlocking tiers of this or that could grant access to new areas in the game to explore, a little like on NR when you get access to the caves and the underground ruins as you advance through the Romulan Rep tiers. They could unlock new outfits, bridges, minigames, skins, materials, weapons, kits, armour, pets, titles, accolades, etc. However all that would take an enormous investment in time and effort, much easier to add a db flag that adds 5% to existing resists or dps etc.

It comes down to keeping the player motivated to grind, any of those I mentioned would be nice, just as the resists or increas in dps is nice, but the former would not upset balance and the latter, which is what is being offered, inevitably brings it's balance issues to the fore.

Time and money folks, time and money.

You mean buying access. Some of us have never seen those caves because we didn't buy a ticket for access.
