So its been awhile since my last video. This one's not a tutorial, but something different. A big thanks and shout out to Thunderchild, Llandi SpaceInvader, Agen, Cythis, Seldrin, Naldoran, Kortar, MJay, Wixiban, and Majidj who all dedicated their time and effort to the making of this video.

Now with all that talking out of the way, enjoy!

    WOOOOOO!!!!!!

Nicely done. Sent to the team.

(constructive note: The quick cuts, and almost constantly moving camera, was a bit jarring. But you did some very cool/creative stuff. Good job.)

This is incredible work. This may be one of the most materful executions of demo record I've ever seen.

    Excellent work!

My only complaints are the quick slowdown/speedup and always moving camera.

    Amazing Video!

I personally love the slow downs and quick cuts. I think that these are good for short videos. If you video was 10 mins long full of quick cuts, then it might make someone a little dizzy. But overall, I thought that this was near perfect! Look forwards to seeing more?

    PS.
What video editing software did you use on this? I use Vegas Pro 10. Always been interested to see what other people use for these creations.
Also, what program do you use for video captions. I've tried FRAPS but find that it kinda causes the video to be choppy lol Might be my computer though who knows lol

I really liked the 'Matrix' style slow motion parts. I would love to know how you did that, and how long it took to put that together! :)

The camera sweeps were pretty breath-taking and I have to say that you have really got a style of your own there and it was executed very very well.

I wished I could do that kind of thing with my videos.

    Very well done. :)

I'm truly amazed by those words Tacofangs, I never imagined that this would ever get the attention of you or the team, so that just made my day :)

As to the cuts, my last video was anything but cutting, so I confess I did decide to experiment a bit with this one.

I use FRAPS for capturing, mostly because I've had a license for it for near ages and it's not given me much trouble, so I'm not aware of anything out there that does it better. If you're having problems with chop with FRAPS it could either be your video card not able to handle the load, or a slow hard drive will also cause FRAPS to drop frames while capturing.

As for editing, I use Premiere Pro, with a dash of After Effects; again mostly because I've been playing with it for years and so I know my way around and it handles the FRAPS codec quite well.

My god that was awhile back, I'm amazed folks remember those. :) I've been floating around since then without doing much, so it feels good to be making a film again.

Well I've had the ideas for some of the shots like that opening shot bouncing about in my head for about a month or two, though I could never settle on a piece of music I liked. However, actual work on the project I only started this last week with getting demo files and such, and I pretty much started capturing video and editing in earnest this last Thursday and worked non stop to get it done by the end of the weekend. All in all, I'd say it was about 40 hours of work, give or take.

As for the secret to the slow-mo, I will say that pretty much every shot you see slowed down is actually shot slow, and then when they're edited in, the 'normal' portions of the clip are sped back to their original speed. The only hard part really is in mapping out a path that takes place in tenths to hundredths of a second. Sadly if you want to rewind after you miss a mark, you have to start at the beginning of a file, which can get interesting if what you're after happened six minutes in.

Demorecord is an absolutely marvelous tool. It may have its quirks and it does have a very harsh learning curve with the lack of easily available documentation, but in my opinion it's one of the best little known features of STO, and I'm pretty sure you could make it work for you in your own videos :)

i think STO just found its new trailer, Dev/PR team .. take a hint, far better than many of the current STO trailers, its amazing what amateurs can come up with, nicely executed, and the slowmo/cuts were very good to show off the fast paced combat that can happen in STO

Sadly the file with that demo-playback crashes about two minutes in, so I couldn't find any usuable footage :(

    That was sublime!

The best I have ever seen. So what does it feel like to be a pioneer?

Hope you don't mind but I would love to use some of these mechanics in my own some day.

    Remarkable work. Remarkable!

Sometimes I get bored of the grind in STO and find myself taking a break for a few days or a week or so. Then I stumble upon videos like this and it makes me want to play again. Thanks for this, it was really good.

Beautifully done! How do you manage to get such close ups of the interior of ESD where the ships are docked? Fantastic Work! :)
