Mass Effect 3 and SWTOR had different teams and we saw how that turned out.
It may be a different team but it is still a Cryptic product, and Cryptic is loosing goodwill with its playerbase.
So regardless of a different team, the masses have a rigt ot be skeptical (especially if they are being asked to fork over $200 for fluff).
How the Devs see Star Trek, apparently:
Star Trek: The Original Grind
Star Trek: The Next Grind
Star Trek: Deep Space Grind
Star Trek: Voyage to the Grind
I'll pass I love the Original Nerver Winter nights rpg and buying a cryptic product after seeing the rubbish STO is slowly going towards is making me not want to go there no matter what the bribe is

But seriously, if this Lt. level Andorian Light Escort were to be offered in the C-store for the same price as the other C-store Lieutenant level ships (or even a little higher), I would buy it hands down.
Wow, I think this is the lowest Cryptic/PWE have stooped to date.
Pass......
How is it "low" in any way? Companies offer this kind of cross-brand promotion ALL THE TIME.
This isn't a case of Cryptic trying to sell you a ship for ?150 or whatever, it's a case of them offering small incentives for new Neverwinter players to give STO a try - hence the fact that the gear is all starter tier.
sometimes i think the guys over at cryptic/pwe have lost all understanding of how much money they are asking of us all the time...
im really wondering what they do with it..
I mean really? 200 euros/dollar whatever? are you kidding me? same with loxboxes lobi whatever.. for what i paid for zen in STO i could have bought 20 .. TWENTY.. other complete games..
or the andorian pack.. so basically i paid a full games worth of money which todey would have a whole story with dont know how many missions, and dozends of images, hundrets or thouthands of models asf..
I REALLY would like to have them explain what the actual cost of making a ship like the kumari was..
I guess since they propably get the orginial mesh from CBS or whomever its just some tweeking of the model, maybe some texture changes so all in all should not take 1 modeller more that say a week at the most to make all these changes.
maybe the extra weapon FX and all that so i guess about 2500 dollar in total, maybe 3-4 at the most.
So they probably could sell this stuff for 1k zen and still make money with it.
Well why write anything, they will not change.. at least when buying a ship they should make an extra episode which you can play if you what where they explain how you got the ship in the first place. That would be really great storywise at least. Then I would have more a feeling of getting something for my money instead of just the contant feeling in this game of beeing robbed basically whatever I do.
And well the fail with the JHAS requirement for the hangar pet is just like the extreme version of all that, having something that costs about 150 bucks just to get my hangar item. Well I guess its my fault of playing this game and giving in to it.
Funny, instead of me feeling good about supporting a game i like they take that good will and use it to the extreme to suck every last bit of money out of me im willing to spend and giving me the feeling of player highway robbery online..
thx but no thx
Sometimes i think i would love to see them fail just beause noone should be successful using such tactics... just a dream i guess and then again, i could play it which would also be bad;)

I think some people might be missing that point. This isn't aimed at us vets who have been around a while. It's just a nice promotion for NW peeps to give some of their other games a try.
The Andorian starter pack isn't much of a draw for me personally, since I'm not starting out and have already purchased the Andorian ships for my Admirals.
I'm curious about Neverwinter, BUT I was introduced to Cryptic through STO. I've spent some money on Champs, but STO is my MAIN game really.
That said, a lot of my future activities with STO hinges on your upcoming announcement.
May is where the rubber hits the road with me.
I'm going to avoid making many game purchases until then.
I think its cheaper to buy an offline game. If game companies like Cryptic/Perfect World and EA/BioWare keep selling extremely over expensive content, the only solution for me is to go back to single-player and offline games.
$200 could buy ten slightly aged games from Best Buy.
Why in god's name would I want to burn $200 for twenty five tiny digital items?
No way is that going to happen. Zero.
*looks at the other packs on the page*
rofl...
$59.99 can buy you a new recently released game.
$14.99-$19.99 can buy you a slightly aged game.
I do not mind buying a whole game, but this is ridiculous on so many levels.
Well let's call a spade a spade.
MMO only really exists as a genre due to people too stupid to measure cost vs. reward to begin with. There's no value for dollar in them at all. That's certainly nothing new.
There's a reason every MMO in the world has a F2P aspect at this point. But there will always be people who don't understand that a dollar is worth a dollar, so there will always be MMO's now. And if people have money to light on fire... well, good for them. Personally I find the costs way out of my range, but to each their own.
People laughed when they started selling tap water in a bottle for $5 too. But it's 2013 and here we are.

Its counter productive to advertise Never Winter Nights on Star Trek Online forums. I get the idea you want more $$$ but your taking away people from one PW game to play anther. Sure the money goes to the same place. Do some real advertising.

People really need to stop referring to Neverwinter as Neverwinter Nights. One was a game actually based on the DnD source rules and material. The other is a generic fantasy game that slapped the DnD names on things.

Good point.
Call me a little optimistic, but... I am hoping that the old ways of selling core games and expansion packs are rediscovered.
When it comes to the 'Free to Play' and general MMO paradigms, I think players lose out in quality, quantity, pricing, and physical ownership.
I have no problem with buying a whole game. I also do not have a problem with buying expansion packs.
Something needs to change.
I want physical ownership of my game, and I do not want to feel like I am being scammed.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
I don't know why STO players are complaining besides just to complain for the sake of it.
This is clearly not for you but for a Neverwinter to come here and play STO.
If you need a T1 starter ship there are 2 in the c store already, and one in steam that also gets you a VA version.....clearly this deal is not ment for existing STO players.
W're excited to announce that purchasing a Hero of the North Founder's Pack for Neverwinter will now get you the Andorian Starter Pack, which includes two free items in Star Trek Online, along with several free items in other PWE games.
Well for those that drop $200 on NW because they like NW then that's a swell deal - how about those of us that already dropped $200 on a STO LTS - any freebies in NW for us?
It would have been better if the Light Andorian Escort would have used the original Kumari skin with the option to use that skin on the T5 versions. Would deffinately sweetened the deal for a lot of people. Relay that to the Dev team please.
Now this makes alot of sense, that would have been nice.
No one with any sense that plays any current PWE game will buy the HotN pack just for the added benefit to their current game. This deal is strictly for those that play Neverwinter. Therefore we are obligated to laugh at anyone that purchased this pack and doesn't plan on playing Neverwinter. Whether it is worth $200 is purely personal. In other words, we are not the target for this pack. The complaints about this pack is a complete waste of time. I don't need to know that you will never get this pack or play Neverwinter. PWE has decided to give more incentive to people that purchase this pack and I will be happy for those that have and will purchase this pack.
My only problem with this pack is that it has more stuff than our lifetime subscription. The main incentive of the lifetime subscription is meaningless and so what if we get all the veteran rewards and an exclusive race.
Wow, just wow. To borrow a term from SW: "The Force is weak in this one"....
Really Cryptic?? A slap in the face for the current STO players. Why would any sane STO player spend 200 space bucks on a starter pack? My bet is that there won't be many takers on this offer amongst the STO player base.
Sure, the starter pack is kinda sorta interesting, but should not this Andorian starter pack have been included with, oh I dont know.... the Andorian Kumari 3 ship pack allready IN the game??
Hope you will offer this Andorian starter pack to those of us not interested in any other Cryptic game than STO (and to a small degree for me CO) in the near future...
As some one said above, if you offer the Andorian starter pack in the C-Store for everyone to get, you have a sale right here...
My only problem with this pack is that it has more stuff than our lifetime subscription. The main incentive of the lifetime subscription is meaningless and so what if we get all the veteran rewards and an exclusive race.
Actually, no - the HotN pack is a terrible deal since it omits the one thing of any real worth in STO's LTS - the monthly stipend.
Yes, you get a nifty, unique mount and companion but you can buy those anyway through the C-Store - yes, you get some 'founder' shinies to show you ponied up the dough but other than that, there's nothing of any consequence (it's not even an 'exclusive' race as Drow will be in the game anyway - you get a unique trait and some tattoos - whoop).
And the 750,000 'Astral Diamonds' is a bad joke since a nice mount will cost you 2,000,000.
The players on the NW forums that have already bought into this are die-hard Neverwinter/D&D fans and/or want to show their support for the game/Cryptic. I hope they feel they've gotten value for their money (and I suppose the extras for other PWE games does add to that), but in my opinion, without a stipend, that $200 pack is worth exactly zero.
The responses in this thread are cringe-worthy. I'm embarrassed for many of you.
Normal people, when they see something for sale they don't want, walk past and the matter is out of their head within seconds.
People in this thread, however, have to pause, strut around, and make a huge spectacle about why they don't want to buy the item. Seriously, I'm embarrassed just reading the responses.
I completely agree, and well said.
join Date: Sep 2009 - I want my changeling lava lamp!
I'm not mad that PWE is trying to use some corporate synergy and hype up Neverwinter. It makes sense really.
But the Neverwinter pack doesn't seem like its worth 200 bucks. Even with the other stuff they are throwing in. Maybe if there was a monthly stipend it would eventually pay for its self but the pack is pretty lackluster to me over all.
And don't worry folks, I'm sure the T5 version of this ship will hit the lobi/lockbox/Cstore eventually. Anyone remember the kerfuffle over the Mirror universe costumes?

ummmm, there are 3 versions of this ship at T5 already in the store.

For an STO player that's not really into Neverwinter, that's an awfully expensive Tier 1 ship. :P
