I just cant decide what ship to get next and i'm looking for thoughts/opinions.
At the moment I'm floating about in a Patrol Escort but i've also got a Mirror Universe Assault Cruiser in the docks that I sometimes take out for when I like just messing about.
Since hitting VA I've been looking at all the C-Store ships but can't make my mind up. I'm torn between getting the Defiant Retrofit (I loved my Refit) but I also really like the look of the Odyssey or Regent Class from a Cruiser point of view.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I like being able to throw out a decent amount of DPS but I also like broadsiding (also I think the bigger ships can look really nice)
Thanks in advance.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
Well from what ive read the Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit is really good cruiser if you are wanting a cruiser type ship. As far as escorts, almost any works well. Even a HEC would do well. The thing is as a eng you can make any ship work well with your skill.
when you're looking at the c-store ships you should save yourself some time and effort and just get the bundles. The only advantage you can enjoy in those ships is if you have their sets and the Oddy has a gorgeous set. IT can keep you or anyone you chose to keep alive so keep that in mind, but if anything I would say get the oddy if you want it but you will be hard pressed to beat the damage and serviceability of your current ship, the Patrol escort is just top of the line
I see no reason to get any of the 3-packs. If you must get an Odyssey, then get the tactical variant. None of the 3-packs have a 3 piece set bonus worth losing 3 console slots over. As an Engineer, the best C-store cruiser you could get would be the Excelsior Retrofit. The Regent is also a good option. The Fleet versions of both of these are excellent ships, so consider it.
Escort wise, I suggest the MVAE or the Heavy Escort Carrier. Contrary to most opinions, I would stay away from the Defiant retrofit, which I think has a silly boff layout. The Steamrunner is occasionally on sale on Steam, so check that too.
Thanks for the ideas so far, lets say I had 5000 c-points and I was to go for 1 Cruiser and 1 Escort what would you suggest? I'm not bothered about tanking in the escort, i'd be going for as much DPS as I can muster. The Cruiser would be my survive but still pack a punch ship.

Either buy The Heavy escort carrier armitage or the vesta - anything else from the fed lineup is a questionable purchase at this point.
The HECwill produce the usual escort damage, has considerable tanking on its own and carries one hangar.
The VESTA Set comes with 3 very powerful consoles, and you can use the 3 AUX cannons up front.
Since those scale of aux, your sci powers (HE, Polarise Hull and TSs) will always be EASILY buffed and you can put more power to shields or engines, since you can skip on weapons.
in the back you have room for the transphasic cluster and the bio neural warhead and the omega/romulan plasma torp.
also put in aux to dampeners so you can maneuver that kitten.
If you really want a C-Store ship, I can easily recommend the Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit (Excelsior) for 2000Z. Some people don't like the looks though but it is tough and the fastest cruiser. The advantage of C-Store ships is that they are also available to any alternate characters that you create.
Also consider the Mirror ships on the Exchange, some are very inexpensive. Look to STOWiki.org for the specs. The Mirror Assault Cruiser has the layout of the Assault Cruiser (3 tactical slots, etc.) but looks like the regular Star Cruiser.... so specs-wise it's a good tac cruiser. Advanced and Patrol mirror versions are also on the Exchange.

I wanted to also mention that the Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit is actually an addicting ship because of the Transwarp drive. You can go almost anywhere in an instant... if you can't get there, you can get next to the sector that you want! The Transwarp drive does not take up a console/device slot either.
I like the looks of the ship because it doesn't look like a "princess" ship, it has the looks that mean business! :P

Alternately, if you have the EC's, you can buy yourself a Galor or the D'Kora off the exchange. Both are great combat cruisers with an ideal console/BoFF layout. But if you're in a progressing fleet, the Fleet variants of the HEC and the Excel-R are great options.
I can speak a little on the escorts. I would probably purchase the MVAE and then go to earth space dock and get the fleet variant. It has 5 tac consoles and a sweet bridge officer layout. We will see an uplift in dps. If you are an escort guy like me, I would get the Kumari 3 pack. Start your engineer off in the Engineer version. However, I am thinking of moving my engineer into the Tac version. The tac version does wicked damage and the Engineer capital skill make it much less of a glass cannon. The DPS uplift for the Tac Kumari comes from 5 tac consoles and 5 frontal weapons. You can also buy the ship with the Quad cannons and stick it up front with the Andorian phasers. If all you do is PVE, the engineer in the Tac kumari with the quad cannons will save you a ton of time. (I Don't have a lot of time to play so grinding through PVE/STFs with an escort saves me time.)
For PVP, I would stick with cruisers. I have seen some good results with the Fleet excelsior. Or just go all in the with Oddy.

Well, the vesta is an awesome ship.
Excelsior Retrofit (2000)
Heavy Escort Carrier (2500)
Fleet Module (500) - to get the Fleet Excelsior
total, 5000 zen.
