Suggestion for more music

davidwforddavidwford Member Posts: 1,836 Arc User
There is a great set of music that I would love to see added to STO. It is from the game SimIsle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86vH4YsgK2s

Back in the 1990's Maxis has several Sim games (including SimIsle) that did not perform that well in the market. Eventually EA games aquired Maxis. I would like to see Cryptic/Perfect World contact EA Games and see if they can aquire the rights to some of the soundtracks for SimIsle.

In particular, the first one would be great for PvP. Most of the others would work well in the exploration areas.

Sorry but that music isn't very good. And certainly does not convey a feeling of Star Trek.

I would much rather see some 009 Sound System or Two Steps From Hell.

Have you actually listened through it all, or just part of the first track? In particular Track 04 at 7:05 has a fanfare sound that is very reminisent of the Star Trek Movies.

Maybe modern rearrangements might work, but not like this. Doesn't really fit well with Trek at all.

Not sure if we're getting trolled or not. But if you want them to contact another company and pay for the rights to use their music, then why not ask them to... you know, pay for actual Star Trek music.

    I got this....

During the one klingon FE's(one with fek'lari, i know spelled it wrong)

They should put in the song "highway to hell"...

On a serious note, the song you suggested fot STO, OP, is not for Star Trek in my opinion, no offense.

I'd kinda like it if when you visited DS9 outside of a mission, it actually played the DS9 theme. But it isn't critical or anything.

Yes, I did listen. Sorry, I still feel that it doesn't feel like Star Trek.

Just for your clarification, it is spelled Fek'lhri. You were just one letter off.

As for more music. . .it's probably unlikely to happen. Cryptic's resources are clearly limited, and they have to prioritize. New music is probably near the bottom of that list.

If you have a computer that can handle it, I recommend just opening up a media player and playing your music through that, and muting the STO music. You could play all the Star Trek themes and various other Star Trek music, if you want.

I prefer to listen to opera while soaring through space.

Agreed. I'd prefer some Ron Jones-action (if Cryptic had the rights, I'm sure they could find a use for Romulan Encounter with something Romulan-related) to SimIsle action.

Besides, I would much, much rather have this somewhere in game.

Sim Isle! I bet if Cryptic phoned Maxis about it, Maxis (Intelligent Games) would deny having ever made/published it.

Fresh music would be good, and the fantastic tune for New Romulus proves they can include more great music in the game. Before that the only good tune is the one at the login screen.

Just get the guy in who did New Romulus and ask him to do a few more tunes to freshen up some of the generic stuff, like the combat or ambient background music. Personally I'd lean toward combat music - we do so much fighting that music is real old now.

I've got MP3s from ST:Armada and Bridge Commander if Cryptic wants to borrow them! ;)

I bet Cryptic could buy rights to use old Trek game music cheaply. I mean it's not like others are beating down the door to use them. :D

Cryptic's STO music is very limited. I haven't had the music on for 3yrs.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

I agree. Between offers of money, and Paramount/CBS doing a little strong-arming with the copyrights, many of the stuff from other Star Trek Games could get imported into STO.

Also, how would "fair use" exemptions figure into the argument?

I really want the DS9 theme to play when you warp in to DS9 (Space).

The game really needs more music, and they need to tag zones with certain tracks, instead of the random mix system.

Solar fields is great background space music.

Song I want in there, is the Klingon Song from TMP. I love that tune, and it would be fun to hear while I cruise in my KDF Battle Cruiser.

Others the can put in the Motion Picture themes, Voyager, DS9. Lot of potential using the original sound tracks.

What about recording some original songs in Klingon for the KDF? Klingon battle songs for combat, some Klingon opera for space flight...

This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!

Not to mention the Klingon Imperial Anthem (featured in one of the Cryptic missions, as well as DS9's "Soldiers of the Empire").

I have said this before, but this game DOES NOT need more music, nor should the devs spend more time making some...There is nearly 2000 tracks of star trek music that have been released to the public. That is obtainable. I don't even listen to the ingame music anymore and haven't for years. I have nearly every star trek soundtrack that has been released minus the Into Darkness one, as that hasn't been released yet. It all comes down to personal taste.

The devs were nice enough to work in support for winamp and itunes. You can play your own music so each to their own. I am more then happy with my 1877 track tracks from TOS to Enterprise to the Video Game series, I just got the lalaland Deep Space Nine Collection which works amazingingly.

So I really don't think all these threads on suggestions for more music are worthwhile as it is most definitely not needed
