Need help for Vesta aux cannon!

So I got the Vesta package and put three aux phasers on and kept aux topped at 125 with three phaser tac consoles. Than I went patrol mission and found that the yellow damage display is merely around 100-(mostly 80)! Yet the Info display at ship built page showed me 545 damage (363DPS) for each cannon.

Can anyone please explain this to me? :mad:

    The yellow damage displays are how much damage was dealt to the hull. If you're hitting a target's shields, you're only dealing about 10% of your full damage to the target's hull.

    Got it thanks! I guess I was really ambushed by the low dps there cause my assault cruiser can do a lot better than that. Need to respec the skills.

    Unless something changed that I'm not aware of, also remember that beams and cannons behave differently at longer ranges. Inside of ~2km or so, you get the damage that the tooltip tells you (minus resistances and the like, the weapon info damage is maximum possible, meaning no shields, no resistances, and point blank range). Beyond that, cannons lose a higher percentage of their damage than beams, so if you're firing at longer ranges, ~5km or more, beams will deal a higher percentage of their rated damage than equivalent cannons (Something to the tune of 60% damage at 10km for beams, 30% or 35% for cannons, if memory serves).

    So, if you have a beam array that hits for 100 dmg per shot, at 10km you should be seeing around 60 damage per hit. Alternatively, a cannon at the same range would be hitting for closer to 35 damage per hit.

    Don't take this to mean that I'm saying beams are better than cannons, I'm not, they both have their uses. Specifically, the Aux DHCs don't suffer from nearly the power issues of any beam weapon (aside from the Prototype Romulan Array), they have a higher damage-per-hit and damage-per-second value than any beam weapon, and Cannon: Rapid Fire will melt anything your ship is pointing at, just get a little closer is all.
