Why are T4 diplo/marauding boffs bound now?

talientalien Member Posts: 712 Arc User
So I got to T4 Diplo with one of my fed characters and grabbed a Nausicaan tac boff to send to another of my characters to fit with his theme, and it's telling me the boff is bound when I try to mail it even though it does not say it's bound, and did not say it was bind on pickup when I chose it from the diplo award store. If there was going to be a change to make them bound there should have been appropriate changes made to the in game descriptions to reflect them being bind on pickup.

I'm mostly annoyed because had I known they had been changed to be bound I would have picked a different boff on that character. That one is useless to the character I picked it up on, so I'm stuck with a boff I can't use and no way to get another one. That and if I do find a use for it I'm unable to have it trained in any of the player trainable skills I'd want, which further makes it useless to me.

They've been that way since the doff system started and the diplo boff was made VR instead of the old common. It aint new.

I've seen VR diplo/marauding boffs on the exchange. I know they're VR, because I specifically searched under VR quality and they showed as purple.

Infact right now as I'm typing this there is, ironically, a purple Fed Nausicaan tac boff on exchange for 30m, and 2 purple Orion boffs for 100m each.

Ok, the Nausicaan is gone but the Orions are still there, take a look and see for yourself.

I wondered this too some months back. I saw the Orion Boffs going for 100mil each, so I worked like hell to reach Diplomacy #4 only to find out (to my horror) that the Boffs were bound.

Those you see on the exchange are the ones that subscribers acquired from before the change was made, thus anyone who still has one can sell it on if they so wish. That's why some can be found on the exchange; they're the same Boff, just one is before the update and thus not bound, whilst the current ones are stupidly bound.

Cryptic Logic. Don't try to understand it.

There are other ways to get Orion and Nausicaan BOffs, including purple quality.

I kept my Orion slave girl, thanks very much.

No wait... I mean "Chief Medical Officer". Yeah. That's it. She's my... personal physician.

He's on about the ones you get as rewards for reaching Diplomacy/Marauding #4.

There is no other way, at least, not that I am aware of, and I've done a fair bit of research on these.

    They're rewards from "Instigate Defection."

    Vukarno and Alleina are Orions.

    Mulrshi is a Nausicaan.

    Ah. Misread. Yeah.

However I think what you're seeing is that white quality unbound BOffs got reclassified as purple in a stealth upgrade. I noticed this on a toon who has 3 white legacy diplo BOffs and they're all showing as purple now.

I'm still wondering why they were made bound with no information that they're actually bound. If the info window for the NPC would just SAY that the boffs are bind on pickup it wouldn't be an issue, but there's no way for anyone who wasn't around when it was changed to know that they're bound, especially since the old white ones are now purple as well.

.....It's poorly conceived and sloppily executed changes like these that make me glad I no longer spend money on this game. Which is sad because I really like this game and want to support it, I'm just tired of stumbling onto bugs, glitches, and halfway done changes like this.

Have they fixed the bug that keeps you from customizing the Marauder bridge officer yet?

That reminds me. No, they have not, I got my marauding boff the other day for my KDF toon and can't customize it.

I bought a few Orion BOffs (as Fed) to complete my set ~6 months back so no, they haven't always been bound.

No, 1 year+ on and it still hasn't been fixed.

You're probably not far wrong, however...

All these small patch fixes they make doesn't make them any money either, and they do them. :)

In a way it does, it keeps them from losing as much money from people that are pissed over whatever bugs/glitches/oversights/etc. that the patches address.

The exchange doesn't seem good enough to list just items that can be used by your character. So any purple Orion bridge officers on the exchange, a Fed can buy them, but can't get them to sign the contracts to be a part of the character's crew. Meaning that these bridge officers are regular purple bridge officers that are for use by the KDF only.

I specified those were FED boffs. Fed icon=Fed boff, KDF icon=KDF boff.

Yep, additionally the diplo BO's only comes in the white and purple version, so exclude the green and blue ones starkaos. (and look at the end of the list and bring a lot of money, white ones are up for ~60 mil and purple 100+)
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
    unfortunately:

You can still trade them "manually" through the trade window. I just moved a bound, commissioned, purple Trill KDF-T4 marauding Boff from one character to another with the help of a Fleet mate and the trade window.
