GPL is basically only for vanity items (including the Romulan/Reman Entourages), though a small amount is needed if you want to run the Doff missions for the chance to get the Orion or Vulcan Entertainment Holograms.
In the tv shows , gold pressed latinum were highly quoted but in STO the only function that I've seen of it is buy holo-emitters
Is there any other use of it?
Before F2P, GPL was supposed to be used for interesting stuff. But that fell through. Aside from buying Trophies and Holoemitters, the only thing left that GPL is good for is some DOFF trade missions (like buying Contraband).
Since F2P, Cryptic said they were going to add stuff to the GPL store, but that's been a while. So I have no idea if they are still thinking it or just going to leave well enough alone.

It is sad that I can't use this currency to get anything. Whatever happened to being able to buy whole ships, colonies, or entire moons for this currency? Why couldn't we buy a moon and mine it for the fleet or our own portion of the dilithium we find there?
I'd also love to see a recipe system installed where one can purchase recipes for different types of systems enhancements to ships and to personal gear. Including the ability to replicate certain items without the use of an idiot Doff mission. When i say idiot I'm not talking about anyone but the Doffs themselves. How hard is it for Biochemists to ask the computer to replicate large hypos? Really? why is this even a problem?
Anyway would love some replicator recipes to be available from the GPL vendor, would love for holodeck memory files to be available for holodecks, they are just sitting there taking up space. And I would love for recipes for kits, so that people can actually customize the kits they use and I don't care about pvp I care about pve, if they are worried about pvp have them make it unequip these customizable kits from the toon when you enter a pvp zone so there's no issue.
The other thing they could do with it is allow it to buy the craft recipe items, like the materials for making anythig instead of dilithium being the only currency that does that.
The point of gpl is to show everyone what it is like to drop the ball.
When new Star Trek fans start playing the game and see all these currencies and get confused the one currency they can trace back to Star Trek is gold platted latinum and how useless it is.
I use it primarily for the Ferengi Trader DOFF that I can do in my D'Kora, and some trading DOFFs. I wish I could find that GPL for Contraband DOFF more often, since Contraband is pretty much the cornerstone of my whole moneymaking strategy.

GPL is also needed for 'Haggle for Rare Commodities' Doff assignments.
The rare commodity Jevonite and Shape Shape Shifting Lockets are required for the 'Negotiate Delivery of Rare Commodities' assignment that rewards the 'Strange Alien Artifact' used for MK XII console crafting. Check the price for this on the Exchange to see how valued this item is...
the usual dev response is that GPL items are supposed to be cosmetic, because otherwise it might not be fair for people who have bad luck at the wheel. I don't know how that fits in with lockboxes though.
The funny thing is that per Canon, Gold Pressed Latinum is a huge commodity and Lobi Crystals are completely worthless, so why it is in game as the exact opposite is beyond me. Frankly i wish Cryptic would keep to their word on things like this as well as finish what they start instead of just abandoning things two or three months after.

It's interesting how their perspective on gambling changes when real money is involved.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.

Ammount of Dabo I've done? The Required one time through with each of my builds! Yet I'm sittingo n something like 200-300K GPL. The fact I can't give you an exact number is a pretty good indicator of how worthless it is.
I'm fine with cosmetic items only though. What annoys me is the fact its of a limited life span, and so is worthless.
So yeah a few more items that don't expire.
Wasn't there a thread from the Dev's asking for ideas on that? Then most of the suggestions appeared in the Lobi store.
Yes, there was a dev thread asking about what to put in a GPL store with a ton of ideas and then boom, the lobi store makes its introduction and gpl barely gets any upgrade since. Not one of the dev's finest moments IMO.
I wouldn't mind if there was a way to get lobi other than lock boxes, sure they had a few rare drops hidden in missions during an event but that's it. As for GPL, it's pretty much the most useless currency in the game.

I remember that and posted ideas in it. Its not just that at some point after this thread the lobi store came to live; a good chuck of ideas the enthusiastic fans gave for the GPL store went into the lobi store. Teached to hard way to not spend too much brain matter on dev requests like that unless you are ready to get your ideas violated.
But to the matter of GPL/lobi. The most sane way to get it more to the canon side without rewriting the whole system IMO would be to rename current GPL to GPL-Slips & change Lobi to GPL-Bars -> Lobi goes the way of the dinosaur (extinct; not Voth).

The old bait and switch, canvas what people would love to be able to get with free in-game currency... use results to put most wanted items into $$$ Currency...
Say what you want about Cryptic they but know how to take obsessive Star Trek fans and milk them for all they are worth.

I know, that's why I said "Holoemitters". They said they were going to add more items than that.

There may also be GPL versions of those, but if so they are much rarer.

Quoting for truth. Especially since Lobi was a valueless nothing in the show.
