Elite Fleet Shields

phil3822phil3822 Member Posts: 81 Arc User
Hi all, I currently have access to all the reputation shields and find myself using either borg XI or Maco XII. I am wondering the the elite fleet shields offer anything better?

I swap around with the borg, maco and omega but struggle to figure which is better between borg and maco sets. I fly a Fleet HEC.

Thanks.

From what I've seen, elite fleets are the toughest to get through, but you also have to consider set bonuses. I don't believe you can do any better than the Mk XII (edit: Adapted) MACO set.

For me, I prefer the set bonuses. Some of the Elite stuff is statistically or numerically better but you lose out on the set match bonuses that you get with all the reputation gear.

I am running the Adapted MACO XII set on all my Fed ships and my shields rarely fail anymore.
I think in the end it just depends on how you play and what you like.

As silly as it is, I miss the cool little bubble of my Aegis set when its skill is activated. And some nights I miss my Borg tractor beam....

Love the elite fleets and for most of my builds I only need to 2 piece bonus so really the shields are a great place to grab some extra resists

MACO + 2 pc Borg or Elite Fleet + 2 pc Borg is your best bet.

The Elite's are nice... but if you get subnuked, you're pretty naked.

I would go for MACO Shields or Adapted Shield if you have the ressources for it.
One of my characters is using Fleet Elite Covariant Shields and is performing very good tbh. But I'd say the reputation ones are a tick better due the set bonuses and procs.

The only time I run my Elite Fleet shields is when I'm using two Reman set pieces to accelerate plasma torpedoes. The Romulan and Reman set covariant shields have very poor recharge rates, and their 3-item set bonus is pretty close to worthless, so upgrading to Elite Fleet shields was a no-brainer. This set-up also gives my ship +74.7 base defense at 27 impulse with no elusive trait present.

Do sub-nuc's remove shield resist stacks? If so, then that sounds rather buggy since subnuc's are only supposed to hit BOFF abilities.

Yeah Nukes get rid of shield resist stacks. Their job is to remove all buffs, not just boff abilities. The resists can build up again quickly if you manage to keep your shields balanced though.

That's strange, because subnucleonic beam's "flavor text" specifically knocks BOFFS off their seats by shaking the target ship's bridge. I guess someone was rehearsing too many camera tilts with dive-rolls at Cryptic :D
