Suggestion: MACO/Omega Force/Honor Guard EV suits

jeffel82jeffel82 Member Posts: 2,075 Arc User
I envision a separate set of Armor, attainable via an Omega reputation mission, just like the rest of the Omega Gear. They would possess reduced energy and physical resistance when compared to their regular counterparts, but with the added environmental resists appropriate for an EV suit.

They would count towards the 2-piece bonus of their respective sets.

When worn, the wearer would be locked into a particular "costume" with helmet, just like the existing in-game EV suits (and the Mk XII armor already in-game when visuals are enabled).

Thoughts?
You're right. The work here is very important.

The Endgame armor sets are already heavy armor pieces so all you need to do is add the space jump + switch mode button which makes it work like EV Suits. Now people dont have to carry around two different armor pieces.

Why would you want to add another pointless set item which you will only use in very specific situations rather than make the existing set rightfully take over the need to carry another item ?

That is kinda the advantage point in getting all three pieces to get the built-in remodulation.

Alternatively, add a slot to the equipment screen which is made specifically for EV Suits.
Then you can have your seperate item but now make it a 4 piece set which benefits EV play AND non EV play.

I'd be very okay with that - I just thought adding EV attributes to the existing armor might be considered OP by some.

I second that, but not a whole new "set". MK XII Omega/Maco/KHG gear already looks sealed from the environment, it makes perfect sense given the extreme combat these suits are supposed to be for, The borg function happily in vacuum, so us borg fighting commandos should be prepared to fight them in vacuum. You get to keep your abilitys and they look a lot cooler then any EV suit.

Make a T5 project in the Omega rep system that let's us modify our existing armor to add this capability even if it's without the thrusters... charge some c-points/dil whatever..

    Cheers

If they did it smartly it would work very nicely. Cryptic has been enjoying their new offensive/defensive ship sets. Flip a switch one way and you get great attack ability, flip it the other way and you get a different ability.

It would be easy to do with the Omega sets. Wouldn't even have to change anything. Add one more retribution requirement to "add" the EV option to your armor(any armor). Then you can "activate" your EV ability but it reduces your armor ability to make it more inline with existing EV systems. Turn it off and you are back to full Omega specs.

I would be okay with EV suits that give access to the set bonuses.

A toggle that changes the attributes of your armor? Interesting...

So the EV suit activation would "seal" the suit automatically and close up that cleavage. :P

Also, to fix the "OP-ness" of the armor vs normal EV suits, activating the EV suit could lower some stats while raising others, much like consoles do on starships. Something like the below, for example:
    M.A.C.O. Armor Mk XII
    Very Rare Body Armor
    Bind On Pickup Vice Admiral
Values do not reflect skills or other modifiers

    +87.2 Physical Damage Resistance Rating
    +87.2 Kinetic Damage Resistance Rating
+64 All Energy Damage Resistance Rating
+2.2 Shield Regeneration every 1 sec
+40.1 Shield Heal to Self and Team

    Ability:
    Environmental Protection
    Reaction Thrusters
    -56.7 Physical Damage Resistance
    -56.7 Kinetic Damage Resistance
    -58.9 Energy Damage Resistance
    +15.2 Radiation Damage Resistance
    +30.5 Energy Damage Resistance
    +30.5 Radiation Damage Resistance
    +30.5 Toxic Damage Resistance
    +15.2 Fire Damage Resistance
    +15.2 Cold Resistance

Note that when activating the EV suit, the regular armor's resistances are reduced to equal the Federation Combat EV suit's stats. The resuilting stats would basically be the same, but with a little extra shield regen instead of bonus damage.

I thought the Powers That Be might want to make the EV version of the gear look somewhat baggier than the standard version anyway, to match the other in-game EV suits.

It's been suggested numerous times that a MACO/KHG/Omega EV suit would be much appreciated in game. I'm thinking the C-Store combat EV-Suit is the major reason why they haven't added one to the game yet.

Don't forget the Lobi upgrade to the Tholian EV suit... which makes way more sense than the stupid Zen Store one.

Why would you spend that kind of money (700 zen) for something that actually breaks your set bonus, which you get for fee in-game? That is a lot of money to spend to dummy down your gear.

What they should have done if they put any thought or effort into it was made the Zen store item exchangeable, meaning that it would mimic the properties of another/any EV set with a few added perks. That way it would make sense to spend 700 zen and it would allow Cryptic to continue to create new EV projects that players would want to spend money on.

There is nothing over powered about just making MK XII and adapted XII sets vacuum sealed. That is an idea I can support. Armors should be more protective against hostile environments anyway. It makes sense that MACO/Omega/Honor Guard upper tier armors would be sealed suits to protect from the vacuum of space and from assimilation nanites and the suits already look right for it.

Another problem with the sets is use of the MK XII weapons with the adapted MK XII sets. They should be interchangeable so we get remodulation with either weapon equipped for the full set bonus. There are times when we want pulsewaves and others when we want a sniper rifle. I noticed when equipping my old MKII HG gun with my Adapted HG armor the icon for remod went away. Not good.

I agree with you, but I have found with the general MMO communities that everything that is better than what they have is over-powered and no one is happy unless they can "trick" game dynamics to give themselves a "perceived" combat advantage that the game has not clearly stated as a possibility.... (made up example) if you get 120% bonus for 10 seconds if you use certain console, but you get a 150% bonus for 12 seconds if you do the same thing but also hit shield repair 2 seconds later....

I still don't know why anyone spends that much time figuring that chunk out, if they spend the same energy in their real lives, they would all be rich.
