Space Set Question

So I tried doing some searching and honestly came up with contradictory answers and very old forum posts that may or may no longer even be relevant.

So I'll ask anew.

I'm an eng captain flying a Fleet Defiant-R and am trying to figure out which space set or combination of set pieces is going to be good for me. I've ruled out romulan / reman already since I don't use beams and I don't use plasma. Primarily I do PVE.

It seems in the past, the Maco shield with 2 pc borg was the way to go. Is this still the case? Is Omega going to do me better? Shoudl I go all 3 borg or all 3 maco? Just really not sure what's what at this point heeh.

Yep, MACO shields + 2pc borg is still the tankiest (Once upon a time you could have MACO shields + 3pc borg, but that era is over).

Some people say Elite Fleet shields are better than MACO, but that has since been nerfed and may not be available to your Fleet yet.

You can eke out some more damage with the Omega Deflector and 2pc Omega, but I haven't really bothered trying since I need 2pc borg to deal with all those nasty Borg plasma burns.

I fly a Fleet Defiant like you, but I am a tactical captain and here is what I use.

    MACO Deflector
    Borg Engines
    MACO Shields

and I will tell you why.

MACO Deflector: Boosts your Structural Integrity, Shield Systems and Shield Emitters, which means:

-An increase in your Hull Health
-An increase in your Shield Health
-A boost to shield healing abilities, such as:
    --Extend Shields
    --Science Team
--Rotate Shield Frequency (An ability Engineering captains have.
    --Transfer Shield Strength

    Borg Engines:
Better Flight Turn Rate than the MACO engines.

    MACO Shields

These have a very good shield capacity for my tastes, but I suggest getting the new Adapted MACO shields when you can.

Thanks to having a 2 set bonus, you can have Magnetoplasma Relay, which...

    Passive
    +5% Power Recharge Speed
    +15.2 Starship Power Insulators

Also, I recommend picking up a couple of science consoles called Field Generator.
These deliver a bonus to Shield Capacity.

    Hope I helped.

Dreadnought class. Two times the size, three times the speed. Advanced weaponry. Modified for a minimal crew. Unlike most Federation vessels, it's built solely for combat.

Since you already said you were going to switch to the Adapted MACO shield i'd advise you to get the Adapted MACO engine too. It turns almost as well, if not better, than the borg engine and is "efficient" AND gets the hot restart effect. Then you have 2 piece A-MACO and get bonus torp damage and an extra 8 aux power.

Yes, they're great, but not as well as the STF sets. Fleet gear doesn't have set bonuses.

Thats a good point, but if you run a 2 piece Borg with a MACO shield, whats the difference with throwing on a Fleet shield instead? 1 piece isnt going to give you a set bonus.

Well for one, there aren't any special visuals. An that's just from an aesthetic point of view. Stat wise, if he's going to change from MACO to Adapted MACO shield, Fleet shields are a waste of fleet credits and dilithium.

I use the 3 pc Adapted MACO set on my Steamrunner and its nice. Torp bonus along with engines that have a hot restart along with crew resistance helps.
