Escort for Engi

Hello i recently returned to Sto after over 2 year break and im looking for some decent skill/equipment layouts for fed escorts. And is there any point to fly in escort as engi?.

    For PvE Escorts seem to be the best choice for every class, DPS is king, sci ships are weak, and while cruisers can tank reasonably well they'll still suffer under some of the really high damage hits. Generally the suggestion is to get the Patrol Escort for the basic ship, because the extra eng boff slot is very valuable for survivability. For upgrades to that you could go to the Fleet Patrol Escort or the Lt. Eng version of the new Kumari.

    I fly escorts almost exclusively as an engineer. The new Andorian Charal Escort seems to be working well for me, but I've only used it for a day so far. I used a Mobius Temporal Destroyer prior to that as well as the Steamrunner (Blockade runner escort retrofit). Plenty of survivability, good dps for all. Escorts synergize well with engineers.

    i am also a returning engineer and am wondering if escorts are good for this class in pvp as well?

    why the cruiser hate, im using my Ambassador with beam array's, Cutting beam and Borg Plasma and regurally pulling 3.9-4.1k DPS in elite SFT's. You also can't kill me like you can one of the glass cannons if im paying attention

    I fly a Heavy Escort Carrier with my engineer when I'm looking for more dps. Nice layout, decent capabilities, and when upgraded with elite scorpion fighters it's quite good.

    But an engineers strength is not dps, but it's survivability. Normally I tank with my oddy and does about 70% of the escorts damage.

    Probably because some folks who are just returning to the game may not have all the added extras needed to get the cruiser up to sub-par DPS that it's at when fully tricked out. And those folks could just as easily hop into an Escort and put out DPS without as much as a grind investment?

    That's exactly it. I started playing again recently after roughly a two year break. I can finish missions quicker with an escort. The weakness inherent to escorts is mitigated by my class. That makes it a better choice until I have the gear to fly a cruiser as I would like.

    So, if i could buy new Andorian escort which one i should buy?, i read Kumari could be good for engi becouse i could add litttle more survivability to it as engineer. My current build

    Yes/no. While an Engineer captain can make up for some of an Escort's weaknesses, it also does nothing to capitalize on its strengths, so you get a jack-of-all, master-of-none. It's a self-sufficient source of mediocre damage.
