I got the Omega Torpedo for the set bonus, plus the Plasma Bolt is neat. I thought the only thing it needed was speed. Well, turns out there is a space set just for that very reason! So, I got the Romulan Space Set, 2 parts so far. I noticed with a normal plasma torpedo high yield, they move ~30% faster in my testing. However, the Omega Torpedo does not move any faster with high yield. This is frustrating, partly because the cost of the Romulan set, but also because I see no message saying it won't work together. The Kinetic Cutting Beam clearly says it doesn't work with normal Beam type skills. When I highlight the Omega Torpedo in space, it calls it a Plasma Torpedo. That qualifies it for the "Plasma Torpedo" requirement. High Yield is the name of a skill, not a classification of torpedo. Using High Yield with a "Normal" Plasma Torpedo names it Heavy Plasma Torpedo, not High Yield Plasma Torpedo. High Yield + Omega Torpedo -should- give it the benefit of the Romulan Space Set.
The way I tested the speed of the torps was a PvP with my friend. We stayed 9.9km apart and tested 10 torps without the set and then 10 with. The time we counted for all Omega Torpedos was the same, around ~1km/second. Even in PvP I don't see the faster moving Plasma Bolt being a huge problem, but I'm not a PvPer.
Overall, I feel like the Omega Torpedo should not be excluded from the Romulan Space Set's High Yield speed/defense. If anything, the Omega Torpedo is more similar to a normal Plasma Torpedo than the Romulan Torpedo, but supposedly it works with the high yield of that.
unfortunately the set was nerfed in the last 3 or 4 patches. the torps apparently either no longer receive a def bonus or the npcs are insta-targeting and have insane accuracy now.

Well, flying close means you hit yourself with it sometimes. I just feel like the options in this game keep getting more restricted. I understand this game is a lot of subtle differences that make a big difference altogether, but I feel like the Omega Torpedo should get the speed bonus and whatever the defense bonus is of normal plasma torps. Perhaps the speed bonus should be 10% * High Yield level, so like HY1 = 10% speed bonus, HY2 = 20%, HY3 = 30%. It's not a crazy boost. I don't think the Omega Torpedo should be excluded. It is a plasma torpedo, even if it can stack up and rapid-fire.
not to blow it off topic, but as we are talking about the reman/romulan 2-pc bonus how well does it work with the Hyper-plasma Torp? I'. guessing it only affects the HY version?
as for that HY1,2,3 idea...maybe it should be reversed on the speed....the higher the level the lower the boost due to the greater the damage when it hits. ie..hy1: 30%, HY2: 20%, HY3: 10%.
Given how incredibly badly every piece of the Romulan and Reman space sets are itemised, combined with how poor the set bonuses perform compared to any of the other end game sets, both sets need completely overhauling.
How about a decent bonus to plasma damage? Hell i'd settle for an effect on the shield that made you immune to your own burn damage.

The perfect reman and romulan sets would be:
Reman: Focus on direct damage & brute force defenses
Romulan: focus on sneak attack & damage mitigation defenses.
Reman:
Deflector: bonuses to SIF and shield cap stats.
Engine: bonuses to turn rate and kinetic resist (hull).
Shield: covariant shield, capx3, 10% resist to plasma (since historically their fight is with romulans). its a ~10k hp shield.
2-set bonus: double the current plasma high yield torpedo speed and defense.
3-set bonus: Capacitance cell that triggers 40% of the time not 10%.
Total:
Probably the highest shield hp possible in the game with 10% plasma resists. Excellent for torpedo-bombing with high yield. Very good bonus to hull repair. Remans are brawlers.
Romulan:
Deflector: Bonus to stealth and 5% bonus damage during ambush.
Engine: Bonus to speed when stealthed and 5% bonus damage during ambush
Shield: Paratrinic Resilient, regx2 capx1 . 10% all energy resist. ~7k hp shield with 2% bleedthrough and high regeneration rate.
2-set bonus: double plasma fire burn damage on all plasma weapons.
3-set bonus: 10% bonus damage during ambush, +25% speed boost during ambush.
Total:
With 3-set the romulan set gives 20% bonus damage during the 5 seconds of ambush and has stealth and speed when stealthed bonuses. Its shield is geared towards giving the ship the ability to survive well enough to re-cloak thank to its low bleedthrough, high regeneration rate and decent shield HP. The romulan set also doubles plasma fire damage which is ideal for romulan-themed kit.. the damage is done not the obvious way but the unexpected and backstabbing way.
I'm not so sure all those increases go in line with how most space sets work. I'm not asking for anything unique here. I just think the Romulan/Reman set should add the bonus to Omega Torp High Yield. However... it would be neat if there was a bonus specifically to plasma DoT. I can't comment on the 3 part set yet, as I only have 2/3. The price difference between the Reman and Romulan set is rather steep, considering they are almost identical. Maybe a Battle Cloak with a 2 minute cooldown or something would be nice for a 3 part Romulan set.

I suspect both issues share a root cause, and probably why the nerf to the tri-cobolt stuff affected so much more. I suspect there is a undocumented class type, ID tag, or bit flag that got omitted or forgotten about.
So we're completely sure about this, has the set bonus been tested using a normal non-Romulan plasma torpedo launcher?
Normal plasma torpedo + high yield with the Romulan set is ~30% faster. Omega = No bonus. Romulan Torpedo = supposedly has bonus, I don't use that torp on that character though.

Running with both the OMEGA and Romulan experimental sets, plus the full XII Reman Shields etc on my Oddy tank.. Very nice.
The main point of this is that the Romulan Space Set does not add a bonus to the Omega Torpedo. To the Romulan High Yield it does, but not Omega.

There you go. Still not a top contender for shields but worth using in STFs and thematically accurate for the Romulans/Remans.
