... on getting folks excited for Season 8. I'm seeing a lot of chat in my fleet and around where I play about what might be happening with it. It's great to see so much enthusiasm!
Just remember... when Stahl promises something you always end up disappointed. The happier he sounds in interviews the bigger the TRIBBLE up it will be.
Remember F2P revamps? Yeah... those were highly hyped up too. Look around you and see how it turned the game to crud.
I assume it will be a mini campaign consisting of 1 or 2 missions, and of course a romulan lockbox with some worthless TRIBBLE inside.... As usual the Devs dont focus on the imba-problems what ruins pvp (or the game itself), but try to sell some lockboxes or Lobi store items (which get nerved after few weeks anyway, to sell new items to the crowd). Thats the system behind it....
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
I don't think they'd be hyping it this much if they didn't think they could deliver on it.
We had two years of hype before the game launched... ...Who actually thinks they delivered?
Jack Emmert: "Starfleet and Klingon. ... So two factions, full PvE content." Al Rivera hates Klingons Star Trek Online: Agents of Jack Emmert All cloaks should be canon.

They hyped a ton about all the "great things" that were coming for the KDF in Season 4 too. look what that got.
I personally take EVERYTHING he says with much skepticism, after having him admit that he wasn't telling us the "whole story" on PWE's stance on KDF I don't think he can be trusted. Just putting my thoughts out on it.
Also remember he wants to be judged on his track record on the KDF. Well, take a look.
Personally I am hoping this year is a turning point for STO. Cryptic did just get a number of extra employees, so the Dev team should be able to get a lot more work done this year. At least, I'm hoping they do.

Heh, thanks for the splash of cold water! DStahl really hasn't promised much of anything, one should note. We have "UI improvements", "something to do with the Romulans", and "Character Creation system revamp". It's all very vague teasing.
Sure, every new season gives us all something new to complain about - yet the game, taken as a sum of the parts, keeps getting more and more fun!

Very true, he hasn't given any hard descriptions about Season 8. His statements have been content free. But people still get excited and their hopes up. And their hopes will never meet the reality. So I wish he would say NOTHING until it the code freeze was in place. But then he's also got to keep people interested in the game
S8:
- NO Romulan lockbox - there will be a Romulan playable faction in 2013 (perhaps in may)
- bunch of KDF missions - probably revamped from the FED 1-7 missions, perhaps a new tutorial
- new adventure zone
- new reputation
- new character creator screens
- new fleet grind - probably dillithium mine or colony
- new traits for toons, BOFFs and DOFFs
Basically S7, but with 40% LESS Developer involvement? Or do you think they'll also double the half-assed justifications, excuses, misleading statements and outright lies?
It matters not. Everytime they 'redo' something they either
A) create a new giant source for it (Fleet Actions at S7 launch gave dil out the wazoo) miss something (Military Offensive = Fleet Mark gold mine, KDF still has an extra wrapper mission ontop of two other missions that reward dil)
Just means I'll have to adapt a bit, oh well. The fact of the matter is they have no clue what this game is like. Or what a ginder player type goes after. They don't play the same game as I do simple put.
I'm actually quite hopeful for "season 8" or whatever the expansion will be called. I know Cryptic have let us down in the past, but considering they've got such a big team now I think there are good things on the horizon. Love them or hate them, lockboxes are bringing a lot of money into this MMO and player numbers are way up on what I remember them pre-F2P. Yeah, PvP is inbalanced as hell and there needs to be a lot of work done to the game mechanics but these are things that will be addressed in time... I have no doubt on that.

Twice as many devs doesn't mean a thing if they are being led in a bad direction.

Again, more devs doesn't mean better. They also have to be ABLE to do there jobs, 40 bad devs are not better than 20 good devs. This engine is limiting as well, don't forget. We are talking about 3 year old tech that has been worked over and patched thousands of times.

All this emphasis on big teams and none on quality of leadership, or quality of teams. Not saying I could do a better job as developer, because I couldn't. Leader on the other hand..
I have seen more people make good suggestions that could ALL be implemented into this game easily than I care to count. Have I ever seen even one in game? I think we all know the answer to that.
Lastly, raise the Dil refining cap already. It's downright stupid.

I fully expect the next season to turn it up a notch!
Double the Bugs!
Double the Imbalances!
Double the Nerfs!
Double the Grind!
I can't wait.
Double ???
We should be so lucky .
According to hints by Gecko , S.8 might be 3-4 times the size of a normal Season .
That to me only means one thing : 3-4 times the bugs/broken features .
Sooo ... I'll be in another game for at least a month ... while S.8 rolls out , and cross my fingers that they manage to not destroy STO as a whole .
Knowing their level of QA and shoddy programming , I'll have to cross my fingers really hard !
