Nowhere does it say 42.9 percent. I suspect this is one of those scaling values where you don't see the true number until you are in space.
But for comparison, an unscaled dmg number for a DHC might be 250. So big deal...

Not sure, its a weird value but its probably either a % of your raw damage, but that might be too complicated for cryptic, it might just simply be substracting it from your weapons power..
Or it might work like Aceton beam? Dunno i never used that ability lol

sure its not current damage out put? so it cuts say alpha and gdf with crf by 42.9%
Game Description: Debuff target's offensive damage with Sensor Scan
Severely degrade target's damage capability by 42.9 for 10 sec
Somebody grab their Sci vessel and the DOFF. Grab a friend. Have the friend shoot at them for a bit. Debuff them. Have them shoot. What's it look like? Tada...
I would do this test, but I have no friends... /sniffle
any number you see on your skills without a " % ", means it's a magnitude number, it works with a formula to prevent these debuffs/buffs, to reach 100% or -100%, leaving you at a limit of 75% or -75% working pretty much the same as damage resistance magnitude you get from polarize hull, plating consoles, or aegis reactive shielding for example.
a 42.9 dmg debuff in this case is something arround -29.8% dmg to the opponent
*there are other complicated formulas in the game like the one used by fbp where 1 means 100%
Comments
42.9 means that the target's will be doing nearly half the damage he should be if you didn't Sensor Scan him

Think of it as removing one in a half tac consoles from the enemy. That is how Aceton beam works I cannot see why this would be any different.
