Manual Shield Distribution

I have had a great idea tonight (I think I had sweet dreams). What if we let EPS transfer to affect the speed and magnitute of manual shield distro as well ? This would:
  • Make points in Starship Electro-Plasma Systems worth it
  • Would boost the effect from engineers EPS power
  • Would make EPS console more useful
  • Would offer room for removing auto distribution from TT
  • It is just my great idea!

Also there could be a toogle to reinforce certain shield facing for auto distribution, similar like it was in Starfleet Command.

    And while I was going to my work through a nasty blizzard on foot, I have had another excelent idea. New engineering skill. Remove the TT shield distro part and implement this.

    Autonomous Shield Distribution

    En/Lt./Lt.cmd

    Basically the shield distro portion of TT. Would share cooldown with RSP

    Duration 5 / 10 / 15 (10 / 20 / 30 with maxed skills)
    45s cooldown (maxed)

    Starship Shield Emmiters would affect the magnitude of transfer
    Starship Shield Systems would increase the duration
    Starship Electro-Plasma Systems would affect the speed of ticks between transfers

    My first question is regarding the autonomous skill, why would you have it have a min/max for duration? Along the same vein of duration increase like the Starship Batteries skill?

    its a good idea but i dont like it. would have to move it into engy. you just created a new engy skill and destroyed a tact skill. epts would be nice with a 5 sec shield distro, the way tt works.

    take the shield distro off of tt, make tt have a 5 sec clear but boost the dps . then tt is a true tact skill. right now tt just does not seem like a tact skill other then the clear part of it.

    also i dont think tt should share a cd with rsp. engys would be killed even more. rsp/extends/tt/et/sci team?

    lol this is why reading a whole post and not skimming is important.

    But thats the point isnt it ? To make a new ensign level engineering skill, because there is lack of them. At the same time, removing distro from TT and creating opportunity cost for ships with limited engineering stations -> escorts.

    Keep in mind that because we NEED shield distro in TT, it pretty much makes using Sci/Eng team a very dangerous endeavor.

    Even more, that gimps ships with limited tac stations more and on the other hand, gives ships with limited engineering stations a free defence skill without making them to think much about their engineering boffs.

    Giving shield distro to EptS does solve nothing, because everyone tries to have it at 100% uptime anyway.

    yes but it can be like a 5-10 sec free distor as fast as tt gives it. then people will be forced into using epts. just go into any lvl 50 pve(stf) or even into pvp. you might not even see epts.

    right now people just pop tt as soon as they can, thats just stupid. the dps boost it not there. thats why when you see tt up just hold on crf, till its over.

    make the clear on tt 5 secs and up the dps boost so that way i actually feel like i have a tact skill and not a cross of engy with feel of tact to it.

    But that does not solve the fact, that having many engineering ensigns is useless. You would just give yet another benefit to EpTS, while the oher EptX have miniscule bonuses in comparison.

    I like your first post the best. I like it better than a new ability for distro, I think it would be good to have manual be something you could spec into. I would also really like a preset that lets you strengthen a facing, either through shield hit points, resist/regen like from power level setting, or some kind of priority redistribution. Can't resist: "Shields double front!"

    I will also bring up my own genius idea from a while back: make 3 shield distro doffs that will add it to one of the 3 teams. Effectiveness of the distribution would scale with the level of the team.

    + TT is no longer default.
    + Ensign level isn't as effective as LtCdr.
    +/-? It's more power to doffs but that's where our power creep is partially rooted so it balances doffs with doffs.
    - Sci Team 3 will be badass, maybe too much so.
    - Worth saying again, not sure we want to put more power into the doffs' hands.

    I dunno. Why not just address the issue of why we even need automatic distro in the first place? And if its decided that we DO need it and we AREN'T going to address it and we're all happy with it, why not just make shields distro automatically? Really. If we refuse to face this monkey down, why fight it? Why insist on using Boff slots for something deemed required. That's foolish.

    "Hey Captain I notice you've put us on Red Alert so I've automatically cut us out of our high defense impulse mode so we're much easier to hit now. It does give us more power to play with. Maybe if you're VERY nice I'll adjust our shields to comepensate for the incoming fire."

    So fix the underlying issue. And if its a refusal to address that, make it inherent and not cost slots that are precious to non tac ships. Ships that already get thier asses handed to them as it is.

    No it makes it a team endeavor that punishes kirk-play.

    A good team should have a compliment of TT/ET/ST and should be using them on each other, there is a reason they are castable on your allies.

    I actually agree with you here. But I would prefer pure manual distro system. problem is, the amount of dps makes it somewhat futile to manage manually, because the manual distro is too slow, hence my first idea.

    The other idea is based on slow cruisers and their sorry state, where they need to use TT, which in turns pretty much screws their already limited tac slots. They are punished for their turn rate and cannot change facings, and on top of that there is not enough ensign level skills. So its one bird with two stones.

    Also Thistler, if everyone would have auto distro always up, we can pretty much remove the shield facings and make a single shield pool.

    I think shields should automatically have a toggle for either automatic equal redistribution or automatic priority distribution (as per TT). That ends the silly situation of escorts having 'better' shields than cruisers.

    Also, remove the shared cooldown on team skills (they have nothing to do with each other other than the word 'team').

    Moving power from engines to weapons is simply moving power from different sides of the ship. EPS dictates the rate at which power is transfers from the parts of the ship. Shield emitters are placed on each side of the ship, so moving power from one side to the next should be linked to EPS too. I was talking to my fleet about this exact idea a few months back.

    How does an ensign move power from quadrants of the ship quicker? He had to go through four years of starfleet academy training and I bet all they do is spam spacebar too.

    tactical ens powers are few and far between. In a ship with 3 tac boffs and TT is not really relevant anymore you can only have so many copies of HYT, TS

    With most of the gaming Kb and mice it was easy to set up a macro for this until they nerfed the "manual" feature, it is faster to hit the disto button once and then wait then hit it again then to have a "macro" that spams it every 2-3 seconds.
