Weaponchoice for cruiser - A tip

Thanks to Season 7, we got new Equipment and weapons.

Now knowing that this thread will go down in a flamewar (Cruiser are UP, Escorts are OP, Tacs are OP, Eng are UP or something else, that is not true), here a short summary of testing my tank with two different layouts of weapons. If you want equipment or skills, i have to dsappoint you. There are many good layouts out there which do their 6-7k DPS (mine can go up to 8k over the whole length of an stf, while I tank the whole map (literally)).

So, there are two(+1?) choices:

A little rainbowish: 6 beams of any kind (well, of one kind, but you are free to choose what), the cutting beam (nice little beam, but weak against shields) and the experimental romulan beam array. Why? Only 6 beams consuming energy (with n beams, only n-1 consume energy), because the Romulan doesnt. Nice boost in damage). The best choice for the beams would be plasma, but that would also be the worst choice for pvp. But for PvE its viable. With 60 Energy Drain, you will only fall to 90 Weapons energy (dont forget EPtW!) and get a nice boost.

A little exotic: Substitute one beam from the above layot for the romulan hyper-plasma-torp (and use Projectile doffis). Of course, you have to boost your turnrate, else you will drop in dps instead of boosting it. While I think this is inferior to the above, it might be fair to say that i did not use it correctly. By mounting a Torpedo in front, the best choice would be 3 Dual beam bank in front. But as you know, cruisers have an pretty nasty turn rate (you know, more mass than an escort and greater inertia. Bigger nacelles dont work on impulse (there are actually people believing that a ship with bigger nacelles should be faster on impulse...oh well)).
HOWEVER: There is one exception: You can use this layout in Hive onslaught, because the enemies (except spheres and queen) are big enough to use the beams and the torp simultaniously. Thats the only occasion in which its more powerful than above layout.

Ah yeah, something I didnt test, but saw, a cannons-turrets-cruiser (was a Galor). It does its damage (pretty nice actually) but was inferior to the first layout. Since it wasnt with me in Hive, I wont go ahead and compare the second and third layout.

So, boost your damage, even when you fly a little rainbowish^^

Plasma is the way to go with PvE for cruisers right now. Running 5 plasma beams, rom beam and the rom torp, along with 3 pc borg shield/deflector/engine and 2 pc borg console/cutting beam.

I'm going to run some dps logs to check the differences between running an omega torp or rom torp and the set bonuses it provides. Might even throw in both 3pc sets, but I'm sure it will hamper dps too much.

If you use Doffis, the romtorp is better than the omega. And since you have limited Tactical skill, you cant use hy3, so i would go for romtorp.

    My point still stands
And there are enough builds out there proving that point.

And mine happens to be one of them and while I say that I have shared my build happily across over 5 threads and will link people to one if they ask me two without thinking twice about it :)

This thread isn't about his gear or build or skills. It is about viable cruiser beam setups. Stop whining.

    To get back on track....

I am currently running this setup, and it has been working well, good dps (about 6-7k single target, and 8-10k aoe) in a tac oddy with all he oddy bundle consoles

    Gear:
Fore: Wide Angle Quantum, Romulan Experimental Beam Array, 2 Romulan Beam arrays
Aft: Borg Cutting Beam, Romulan Beam arrays x 3.
    All Beams are [ACC][Crith]

    Deflector: fleet with +threat
    maco covarient shield
    maco combat impulse engines.

    Consoles:
all the standard with a borg console and romulan and plasma infuser and the oddy bundle ones for the engineering buff.

    Skills:
    aux2bat, eptw, epts, tacteam1,
I use 2 tac officers for my 'dps' boff. single target setup is using high yield 1 and beam overload 2
aoe setup is torp spread 1 and fire at will 2.

I run hazard emiters 1 and polarize hull 2 for my sci slot
and run 2 engineers....can't go into more detail as am on my work computer atm unable to log in.
