Just a quick question here, looking for a simple answer.
The question is in regard to the special prized lock box ships (Galor, D'Kora, Wells, Recluse, and the Jem Hadar Escort). Percentage-wise, are my chances differ from trying my luck at a Cardassian Lock Box or a Temporal Lock Box? Is the chance of receiving one of the high-end rewards higher with any specific box?
I've two keys to use up, I've got all the ships I want out of lock boxes, and it's taken me enough to get them. I'm sure not going to be buying any more of them, and figure if I'm going to end on a high note, I might as well try my luck at one of the ship rewards and sell it on the exchange.
The question (rather choice) I face, is which box I open up. That is, if there is any difference between them.
since they canned the purple lockboxes, all lockboxes now have the same chance to give ships. if you happen to find one of these rare discontinued lockboxes, i cant remember if ferengi or cardassian were the last ones to have the purple/gold distinction but these had a slightly higher chance for ships. all white/uncommons are the same drop chance.
No, there's no difference. I'd look through the prize lists on the wiki and pick whichever has the highest number of things you might actually use/want. Or else sell the keys, if you really don't want anything out of them.
If you find colored boxes on the exchange, they turn to common the first time you mix them in with regular lockboxes. As for the odds of getting what you want, it's pretty standard across all the lockbox types. You're more likely to get what you want if you open lots of lockboxes than if you only open a few.
I did some studies (with the help of a few forum members) on the first two lock boxes.
I personally opened over 1,000 Cardasian Lock Boxes on Tribble and found the drop rate for the bug to be very low.
Check the links at the bottom of my post for a full report with charts and statistics.
Unfortunately I gave up on STO shortly after that and did not examine the structure of the following lock boxes. I saw that prices of even a skirt in the Lobi store was over $80 on average. There were no signs of things getting better.

I guess it would be best to open Dominion lockboxes. I asked myself the same question a couple days ago, but realized the dominion box does drop the dilithium mining claims.

I only buy keys these days with my dilithium.
The current box, in my opinion, gives out far better consolation prizes than previous boxes. Opening them in the hopes of a Galor or Bug ship is a fool's errand. Go for the Lobi and reward packs. Rich dilithium claim is an easy 5000dil for two minutes of work. Purple doff pack is half a million unopened. Regular doff mini pack tends to give useful doffs.
I can't remember what else I've gotten. But none of it has been useless.
I think the Ferengi box still gives out more Lobi on average, but that's about it. Cardie box gave me XP boosts mostly. Temporal and Tholians just gave me fleet related TRIBBLE that I don't need and couldn't sell.

There been posts that pretty much said it's like a 0.5% chance to get a lockbox ship.

Then buy what you want with the EC you made.
