It's arguably a runner up to the Jem'haddar attack ship, but that fleet defiant is the only only one I want. Not sure what I'm gonna do with myself once I grind my 2-man fleet shipyard up to level 3 so I can buy it, though. Grind for better gear, maybe put a new home theater system in my quarters...

Dps wise it's only beaten by the JHAS

There are better all round ships though ie survivability, Boff seating and such

There's also the Steamrunner if you're playing STO via Steam. 10 consoles, cmdr and ltcmdr tac, 2 lt engineering, and ensign sci, plus better hull and shields than any escort short of the JHAS. Plus it goes on sale fairly often for ~$12 for a full account unlock. Only real drawback is that you can't buy it with zen.

He asked if there was a ship capable of more dps not if there was a ship better

FYI you don't have to play STO through Steam. You can get the code and unlock it. I think it was through the PWE site.

Fleet AE has 5 tac consoles as well if you just want something different without dropping raw weapon damage. You should also be able to use the sci slots for some debuffing which could provide situationally better dps than a Defiant would on its own. JHAS is better, but everything else is only going to be better in specific situations, not across the board.

For PVE where targets do not mitigate plasma damage, the highest theoretical DPS bonus for any ship is the Fleet advanced escort using this set-up:

    1) Romulan Singularity Harness Set (Hyperplasma Torpedo Launcher, Romulan Experimental Beam Array, Zero Point Energy Conduit) = +7.5% bonus plasma damage
    2) 5x Plasma Infusers Mk XII = +150% bonus plasma damage
    3) 3x Romulan Plasma Infused Science Consoles = ~+30% bonus plasma damage

Grand total = ~+192% or more bonus damage

If you run a Tactical or Sci captain, the Romulan Experimental Beam Array's shield-ignoring hyperflux plasma DOT can reduce the target's hull to 25% or less when resist debuffs are stacked.

It's pretty nice being able to beat the Hive Space Elite queen's diamond ship without breaching its shields lol.

Let me get this straight you guys think... just because the people in the pvp boot camp vacuum is saying that the steam-runner/Blockade Runner (A ship you have to purchase from Steam which splits its profits with Cryptic/PWE) is better then a ship you get for free?

The Patrol Escort? The Mirror Patrol Escort and The Fleet Patrol Escort?

Okay.... Sure why not. The Hull tanker. Literally The hull tanking Steam runner is second on your list to the JHAS? Okay. People are free to believe what they want to believe I guess.

Buuuuuuuut Before you purchase this 'Thing' please try out the Patrol Escort you get for free or the mirror patrol escort which is more aesthetically pleasing for around 200k and draw your own conclusion.

Just because someone says something is good does not mean it's good, it means it's good for them. Find out whats good for you. People tell me that Crab, shrimp, and lobster is good. I don't like it so meh.

For flat out damage output, the Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit is king. That's just what happens when you have 5 tactical consoles and 8 tactical boff powers. There is no "best" escort or "best" anything though. Depends on what you want to do. Among escorts, the Steamrunner is arguably the tankiest, the MVAE lets you play around with some science debuff/cc fun, and the Armitage gives you access to a variety of carrier pets that either add to your DPS or provide other effects (like tractors). I even have an Excelsior set up with single cannons and turrets just for if I get sick of flying escorts. Don't be afraid to change up your build or playstyle, keeps the game fresh and fun.

Lasonio, just because the Patrol Escort is more aesthetically pleasing (which is itself entirely your own personal opinion, I personally think the Steam Runner is more aesthetically pleasing than the Patrol Escort), does not automatically make it a better ship.

Additionally, the Free version of the Patrol Escort (the one you get with Dilithium) and the Mirror Advanced Escort (thats the one with the Patrol Escort Skin) are not what I have dubbed "Tier 6" ships. In otherwords they cannot compete with the Steamrunner, the Jem'hadar Attack Ship, the Mobius, the various Fleet Escorts or any other ship that has TEN Consoles. It just isn't possible for a ship with 9 or less consoles to compete with a ship with 10 consoles. Unless that ship with 9 consoles is the Chimera which is treated as if it has 10 consoles due to it's innate regenerative shield mode.

As for what ship is the most powerful escort all around. At the moment it is a toss up between the Breen Chel Gret Warship, the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship, the Jem'Hadar Heavy Escort Carrier, and the Mobius Temporal Destroyer. Only one of those 4 ships is the best escort. But it largely depends on build.

Personally I have had very good luck with the Fleet Patrol Escort. I prefer the universal ensign over the dedicated Tac ensign, gives some flexibility for survivability, that the Fleet Patrol offers over the other Fleet options. I run it with MACO MK XII and the Adapted Borg tech set and tend to do well in ESTFs.
