C-Store ship advice

Hey All,

I am about to hit 50 and will be looking at getting myself a new ship. I like the look of the temporal science vessel - but am not so keen on the lottery system to attain it - or the amount of keys i would need to sell on the exchange in order to buy one from there.

So, looking at the C-Store i am contemplating 1 of 2 ships:

The Science Odyssey or the Science Vesta. I have no problem dropping 25 euro on either, but i am a little concerned about shelf life - how well do these ships fare (with decent equipment obviously) in PVP/PVE? While both appear science focused, the difference in stats indicates different play styles for both i would imagine (or at least, lending themselves to different play styles).

I am going to do some research into both, but am also posting this to gather some community feedback.

Oh and Hello!

Look pal i got the Nebula from so long ago its got dust on it and it will still take down most players in pvp and all enenies in pve its about how you fly and how you kit it out not how much flash and bang its got pick the ship that suits you and your style.

    and my current ships

    Klingon (B'rel)
Federation (excelsior) which is still the best ship in game and cheap on C-store

Don't bother with zstore ships. Get a fleet ship or a lockbox ship. The zstore ships have been proven time and time again to be forgotten and worse, free ships are given out later on that are better than them.

Only reason to buy zstore ships is for the unique console (not tier 5 ships) you can put in other ships.

One ship alone is worth buying in zstore though...because of its uniqueness: The B'rel Retro.

This month we're getting the Andorian ship which i'm hoping will be zstore. Its supposed to have side-firing torpedo tubes and be a tactical cruiser of sorts... so perhaps this will be the next 'unique' ship worth buying. We'll wait and see.

You can get a temporal destroyer on the lobi store for 800 lobi. Anything gained from the lock boxes can be sold via the exchange... Win win.

I own the fleet excelsior, wonderful ship. I also own the three pack Vesta... Also worth the price! Presently using the temporal destroyer for PVP and must confess, I enjoy it. The new Ambassador has specs similar to the excelsior (zstore) and you can equip cannons on it just like the excelsior. (single cannons) It holds its own really well in Elite missions.

Choice is yours, you wont regret the Vesta. cant speak for the Oddy, never purchased it in oieu of the sluggish turn rate.

The Odyssey is a Cruiser, and thus primarily an Engineering ship (all four variants have Commander Engineers), though the Science Ody has some similarities to Science Vessels (4 Science consoles and Sensor Analysis). The Vesta is a "multi-mission" science ship. It's primarily Science focused (4 or 5 Sci consoles depending on the variant, Sensor Analysis, integral Subsystem Targeting, Cdr Science), but has enough Universal slots to also function in a manner similar to (though not the same as) Escorts.

The answer here is, to me, always the same.

Play a ship you enjoy the look of, the background of etc etc.

My main tactical plays a Defiant - not because I'm good in it, I'm not - but because the Defiant is a fighter, a bull dog. David vs goliath etc etc.

If you want a suggestion for a general fit? The Excelsior can entertain most people.

If you're going to go for an Odyssey or Vesta then save up the dil to convert to Zen and grab the pack. Vesta seems to be Besta for PvE, but you'll need to know what you're doing in terms of layout, boff skills, and how to use your abilities.

there's 1 thing i NEVER got my head around:(
the 2nd anniversary, people had the chance to get an odyssey class starship?
why is it that we had a rubbish ambassador class? :(
i think they should do a come back of ALL the anniversarrys so far to allow us access to the things we never got.
if somebody joins now but the time for the odyssey has passed (and the ambassadore) they have to wait a whole year for the 4th.
    IT IS NOT FAIR!

    Oh and Hello!

Greetings rivertam32! Honestly I've not flown the Vesta sci, but I do use the Sci Oddy on my Engineer. It's a pretty boss healer if you ask me, but I was also one of the suckers who paid $50 bucks for the whole 3 ship package. I think if you are going to fly the Oddy the 3 pack is the best choice, and from what I know of the Vesta it's probably the same.

Along the lines of getting a new ship, it would really depend on what kind of captain you are, and what you are looking to accomplish with it. I fly a great many of the C-store ships on my characters and could probably offer you some decent advice as to which one I would suggest. Anyway post up some additional info or PM me directly and I'd be glad to give you a recommendation.

If it makes you feel slightly better, Cryptic states it is NOT releasing the Amabssador T5 version via the c-store. It maybe will become a fleet ship... but that is it.
