Was two missions all that you could come up with for the 3rd Anniversary Celebration? Somehow I expected a little more then that... its taken weeks to do two missions which could have been knocked together in the foundry. I mean, not complaining about the mission itself, it was ok, Denise was a nice touch.
Also, its not like this is the only thing they've been working on lately. I'm sure their plates are full with content upcoming in May which they won't tell us about...
Keep in mind that for Year 1 Anniversary, there were NO missions.
Then for year 2, they introduced the concept of having a mission during an anniversary, with the Q Daily plus the little thing to get the Odyssey.
Then, for year 3, they expanded that even more, and gave us a full-fledged special episode mission, featuring new voice acting, new game mechanics, and a well thought out story line, for a pretty lengthy well defined mission.
I have seen evolution over the past 3 anniversary's. Each year has gotten better. Once you understand this, and compare each, you will discover this truth.
yes. Considering Season 7 was a couple of months ago, and season 8 will apparently not only see the return of FE but its meant to be their biggest season yet, to the point they are calling it more of an expansion.

What Cryptic hypes, and what they deliver, are typically two very different things.
That being said, the anniversary mission this year is head and shoulders above the "kill 10 rats, here's your ship" mission that was handed out last year.

I don't always agree with you, but in this case? 1000% yes
Also, voice acting aside, that mission could NOT have been created in the Foundry with the tools we currently have access to.
There are many things done in that mission that are impossible to do during the foundry, from seeing the Enterprise C on the outside, to flying the C with it's on BO's and special equipment already setup, to changing your ship to a freighter, your uniform, to having your BOs appear as NPCs like that, and more.

Well considering you might have played the game for three years now ... you should know what to expect ... sure the mission was short but it was still the best content, we got within the last year ... considering last years "content" i expected much less to be honest ...
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.
yes. Considering Season 7 was a couple of months ago
I missed that. I am just getting back for the anniversary event. What was the FE in season 7?
they are calling it more of an expansion.
In the past, Cryptic's idea of an expansion hasn't matched up with the mean expectations of MMORPG players' expecations of an expansion. What are they saying will make this an expansion?
Its taken Cryptic 3 years to get good enough to make a single decent Star Trek mission without TRIBBLE it up. Expecting anything more is just insanity.
All this really does is point out that when Cryptic focuses really REALLY hard, they can deliver an Easy-Bake Star Trek story.
Seriously, Time Travel, Enterprise, Surprise Intervention and... it never happened.
Take out the Enterprise element and you can get the exact same kind of plot in most Sci-Fi and even fantasy settings.
Mechanics wise - the mission offers a few new animations and the ability to skip cutscenes.
The former - Fair enough if they can deploy it elsewhere
The latter - I wish they would put that in ALL missions
Coming from a fairly new player to the game, i really enjoyed it. I will say i enjoyed it more on my federation character than my kdf because it seemed to make more sense. Anyway, without over analyzing it i enjoyed ir a lot.
From a lowby perspective, i loved the high level space combat and the ship, and especially enjoy the reward. Good work, and yes, it felt very much like star trek.. The only thing missing was some form star trek view on a real world issue like sexism, racism or other form of Roddenberry plot and it would have been perfect.

But... why just two missions?
This aint the MMORPG forum. Haters thata way. -->
If you add in the bill for the lines that Tasa did I think you can see were the budget went. Blonds tend to be expensive you have to really show them a endless supply of energy credit.
This was way better then other games I've played...I use to pay monthly for a game that hit its 8 year anniversary and all you got was an achievement for logging on and nothing else. Not even any cosmetic changes in game...
Peoples on forum, they will always found something to whine.
Free mission, and they complain because it's not enough. Free ship, and they'll complain because they don't like it. Nice voice acting, and they'll complain because they want the whole game redesign with it. Or maybe because they are not here to listen to someone talking.
Seriously, you get a free mission, 2 free ship, and Denise Crosby as a guest star. That's a lot of work, and money from Cryptic, and it was free. Why are you complaining ?
That's a lot of work, and money from Cryptic, and it was free.
i notice that term "free" is thrown around a lot lately.
facts are: we paid for the Retail Box, we paid 2 years of subscription, we paid Lifetime Accounts, we paid for C-Store items to no end, we paid for a Steam Starter pack (Steamrunner Class) via Steam (no Zen accepted) and only god knows what they do with all the LockBox money...
saying FREE to anything that they do, sorry, we are paying them and we pay them a lot,
maybe not every single one of us, but as a collective playerbase we are paying them to do their JOBS.
If customers aren't happy they have every right to complain or to demand better work for their investment / support.
I'm not saying that THIS is a valid reason in this thread,
but i'm sick of people saying "its FREE" to invalidate just about every point one can possibly complain about.
"i don't like that the Ambassador Class is not turning around the center of the ship, it looks odd while turning and the camera isn't centered" -> "it's FREE so you have no right to complain about it"
....!?
you see how that *argument* works for everything?
My answer to the OP: it's only a 3 year anniversary, not a big 5 or 10 year.
We got a Ship and a Mission for this "event" PLUS some Q shenanigans, and that just shortly after the winter Event and a Q double XP weekend.... honestly i am a bit sick of seeing Q hanging around ESD all the time.
Yep. Can't stand this either.
This is the three year anniversary of a product Cryptic is selling.
It's like the three year anniversary of the Twinkie, except that they'd need to put anniversary presents into the twinkies. This would be neither safe nor would it make the twinkies free.
If Cryptic bought you a beer are gave free gold accounts to people on the street - that might be free.
Everything ingame is part of Cryptics product. It's not free, someone paid and/or is paying for it.

Why did I only get two cookies with my milk?! And why are they chocolate chip when I think it's obvious I prefer Oreos?
I dunno, I just expected a little more splendor, maybe a whole 5-6 Episode story arc or an event like Darkmoon Faire on WoW or Brewfest. Something that had a little more punch to it then that mission which now that I mention it, was a bit disappointingly short. What happened to the days when STF's were longer, consisting of a full story, ground and space parts together so your guild-mates could spend an epic evening together.
I am not trying to bash Cryptic for "free" stuff but at the end of the day, it would just be nice to have something that would take up a few hours of my time rather then just ten minutes. I really want to feel that Dungeon/Raid experience I got from WoW again... in that having something truly epic to do.
I felt the same way about "Into the Hive" as well because it was just three rooms and there was no real feeling of being in a massive Borg infested Unicomplex. It would have been nicer if it had been somewhat longer...
I hate to bring WoW into this but its the only thing I can use to compare and describe what I would expect from the game.
Comments
its an anniversary event, not an actual season of FE chain.
and please feel free to knock that together in the foundry any time you like.
