Reman Guard Captain

First off, let me say, WOW, what a worthy adversary.

I came across one of these guys at the end of a Khazan Exploration mission, saving a bunch of weird looking things who built machinery from the Remans. I kill everything off and make my way to the last group. A Reman Guard Captain and 3 of his little guard buddies. Thinking this as just another pull, I go in guns blazing. Next thing I know, I'm on the floor, swarmed with this invisible purple guys. What the hell?

I've never come across a Reman Guard Captain before, so I didn't know what to expect. I'm not even sure how to fight them other than brute force. His little summons (purple invisible guys) go all over the place, and then usually focus on the science officer I have assigned to healing. Once he's down it's game over. And their attacks go right through his shields, so there's really no helping him.

So, plans, strategies, will I see more, I need details. I'm really dreading my next encounter with one, because these guys just **** me off. Fun, but insanely difficult, so I must not be doing something right.

For those unsure of what I mean by invisible purple guys, I took a screenshot.

Simply focus yourself and all of your BOffs on the Guard Captain itself. Once it drops, its purple clones vanish. Unload everything, use all debuffs, and bring the hurt on it. That should allow you to take it out with little difficultly.

The Problem is, the damage goes straight through shield, and they are many hits, like a machine gun. A Retreating Fight to speretate helps if you can`t focus him down.

I think it is a mind attack or something as shields have no effect on it and every time I have encountered those guys they kick butt over and over.

A storyline mission took me 6 respawns to be able to defeat the boss I was fighting because he would summon these guys and they would all use that attack.

3-4 hits by it and I am gone and then the BO's would go too. Not fun.

It can take 2-3 cycles of expose/exploit to get rid of him. Focus all fire on him, use BO exposes abilities, and rifle butt him yourself until you can exploit him. This is the only way I've been able to beat this encounter. A side effect of rifle butt is that he spends time on his butt, not attacking.

    ^^^^ This right here.
Stay within the zone of your fabricated medical generator if you have a one.
Glue yourself to your team's medic.
Focus all team fire on the captain.
Use every available buff and debuff you have.

They're probably the most annoying ground mission enemy I've come across.
    But they can be defeated.

Wait for the story-mission on the remains of Remus. There you get one captain at the end.

The guard captains in the missions have been nerfed, you can do them easily as +3 s.

However, when you come across this guy in explores, even tho they are only at your level, they are tough.

This guy at RA5 along with his little friends can dropp a full epic geared scientist in a medic kit in a second if you pop your head out at the wrong time.

The summons heal him when they mind dmg you, LOS the summons and focus the boss. 1 eng 4 sci.

I've encountered them in B'Tran cluster. I got a remnan captain, a commander, an elite guard and 2 guards at the end of the mission. I repeatedly died 3 times in a row.

Now, given they ignore shields, I needed to bring 2 healer science BOs to heal instead of the usual one healer/one cc-debuffer science BO setup. Worked perfectly.

This guy is tough. Last time i encountered him I equiped a stun pistol and kept him stunned as often as possible and rotated in that melee knockback in between stuns all the while the away team was working him over at range. He did not get a chance to summon his buddies. Havent seen him since to repeat the strat to see if I was just lucky or its viable.

Indeed, the all dmg resist buff of MT and VR along with the HM mental cure is a great help.

Let me flat out explain to you what the Guard Captains abilities are before you start using strategy, people.

    Traits:

-The Guard Captain usually has Escorts, often cannon fodder-like ones, such as Guards or Shadow Guards, But he can have more powerful Protectors with him too, Even Guard Commanders.

-The Guard Captain does not use Any Weapon, Not even a Romulan Disruptor Pistol, only his Fists, and his punches don't do TOO much to you, but they still penetrate shields like all Melee attacks.

The Guard Captain's abilities often penetrate shields, so having a Science Bridge officer down there with healing abilities like Medical Tricorder and Nanite Health Monitor is an EXTREMELY Recommended Tactic.

    Random Facts:

-To me, He seems like an Alien Wizard/Sorcerer.

-He is my Favorite Boss, Not only because of his Magic-like powers, but because he is also a Reman, Remans are my favorite Star Trek Race.

-The Reman Science Officer Candidate is a Guard Captain by appearance, yet does not use his abilities.

    Abilities:

-The Guard Captain, Like all Reman NPC's, Possesses the Ability to Shoot a Purple Psionic Bolt from his mind, penetrating shields and doing Considerable damage, but nothing that can't be healed by a Medical Tricorder.

-The Guard Captain can use The Lethean's ability "Rapture" Only the Beam is Purple, And Does more damage, This ability also penetrates shields, just like "Rapture", Making it Fatal if not healed quickly.

-The Guard Captain can Cover himself in a Cloak-like Aura, This is a sign that he is going to Teleport, When he does, he will teleport RIGHT In-front of his Target, Doing Extreme damage and penetrating shields, After that, he will usually begin Punching his opponent.

-The Guard Captain's most Dangerous Move is revealed when he begins swaying his hands around in a Certain Motion, all while being covered in Purple, He raises a hand into the air, before Dissapearing and Turning into a Purple Ghost-like entity, also releasing a Second Ghost, Sometimes though, he even releases Four or Five Ghosts, The Real One Does Damage, And the fake ones are easily Defeated, You can usually tell which is real by looking at their Health and Shield bars, if either is drained, you'll know that's the real one.

-I Think the Ghosts do shield penetrating Damage too, but im not sure, i'l have to spawn a Guard Capt. in the Foundry and See for myself.

May be they have been nerfed as of lately, but aye, indeed. They are(were?) brutal.
They are actually the ONLY ones were I choose to drop the mission, when I encounter(ed) them captains.

Even waited out all the cooldowns, orbital bombing them, using clones, all kinds of buffs and trickery, focusing all team members onto it. The captain still managed to render me unconcious. -> Emergency transportation to sickbay...

    Apparently i missed some details.

-The Guard Captain can even have the Shadow Guard Commander With him as a protector, so be careful.

-The Ghosts do not do damage.

-When Teleporting into his target, The Guard Captain will create a "Force Field Dome I" Which can be targeted and shot at, and even destroyed, This field will often knock players back, but if one manages to get in, they will be Slowed.. Majorly.

    Lastly.

-The Ghosts will only use the Purple Mind Bolt, And nothing else, Meaning that the Real Guard Captain will be exposed if he uses a different ability, Like The "Rapture" One. (Apparently it's called "Mind Drain", The Bolt attack being called "Mind Blast".)
