I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.pwlaughingtrendy wrote:I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.

Because of the enormity of choice really I don't think we can really break it down to ship choice. Even ships within the same family just have such different Boff layouts that maxmising them inevitably falls on the player to do more leg work to figure out what is best for him or her.
Research, STO planner, Hilbert Guides, testing, experimenting, and a ridiculous amount of hours shifting through posts in general will help with what we learn during a simple two or three hour Boot Camp session.
Looking forward to the third installment now!!
I attended both sessions, CET as Tac/scort and EST as engi/cruiser. It was interesting to see the differences in opinions but for the most part both covered the subjects extensively and in a somewhat similar fashion unlike the first one.
I will definitely sign up for the third space one. Great job ppl and tyvm for putting in all this hard work.
Agreed - I spent 10 mins on captain power abilities but took me 3 hours to go through ship types. If it wouldn't have been for the third person helping, I might still be doing the bootcamp coaching now
Thanks for the feedback - sorry if it seemed like I took a lot of time on each part of the curriculum - just too much info to part with.

My biggest problem about yesterday was the start time (I participated in the CET session). I logged in just after 1:30 EST (7:30 CET), and it was at least an hour before my class got started.
Mattack13: You are correct. We started later than we would have hoped. This was due, in part, to a shortage of help in the area of registration. This is my fault for not gathering enough people beforehand to help out with the registration process, not the fault of the coaches.I will do my best to make sure we don't encounter this problem again. Thanks.
Very much looking forward to learning how to fly and real teamwork. Is it just me or is that part of the curriculum light at the moment?
I had a lot of fun getting toasted by Emoe and Broken at the end though. I know what I need to work on now.
is there a recording of the science or tactical sections out there somewhere?
the engineering one was so good it made me wonder what was going on in the other sessions.
I still prefer career over ship type. I don't try to fix every single build and character sheet of each student. The curriculum for the second session, was fine in my view. Team play up next, and finally just before the respecs we'll see what still needs to be done. Like learning to do percussion instruments, learn how to count and hold two sticks , before trying to play 4 stick solo pieces.
sounds like all is working as intended, gald you enjoyed it and will be back .

Thanks for the feedback. Is there anything we should do more of or less of to make the next one better?
I concur with many of the opinions expressed in this thread, the decision to differentiate by carreer was the correct one, I actually learnt how to improve my gameplay.
The time we spent on captain abilities and the skill tree was very informative. I will need to respec!
And, I actually got to play my very first PVP match saturday night, wow, talk about an overwhelming experience with ships all over the spaceplace.
I really enjoyed myself, and now realize how much I still have to learn.
I am a noob and loving it!
Thank you coaches.
Also, another member of my fleet was in the same class, and left wondering if he'd learned enough. He's trying to apply the keybind in The Hilbert Guide to his science abilities, and finding it leaves him unable to choose specific heals for teammates at the right time. Perhaps there should be some talk about what abilities should be excluded from the keybind, or placed into separate keybinds.
Overall, the class was good, but I really look forward to getting into teamwork aspects of pvp.

After going thru the class and thinking about it (20-20 hindsight) here are the things I'd suggest doing more of (2 points).
---Point 1: Reinforce the key 3 messages. What are the 3 things you want everyone to walk away with. Today you will learn these things, don't forget them, etc. etc. (example: 1. identify your build objectives, 2. don't be afraid to test and test more, 3. out of class resources - use them.)
---Point 2: After the know your skills and ship part. Maybe this is in Section C, but put a break down of Me, Team, Enemy where you focus a little on each.
Examples:
Me = the stuff we talked about - what skills, skill points, consoles, weapons.
Team = what to expect from and to give to a sister ship (Escort, Science). Ex: I expect to get tactical team from escort. I expect science to save SNB for xyz...
Enemy = I will focus on this target first. I will combat Science ships this way... I expect escorts to do this so I will prepare with abc...
My thinking here is that there are 2 sides to the coin. Although i'm not necessarily new to PVP (be it less active) I very much like the strategy discussion of it. I feel many know the basics and time can be reused to focus on how to apply the basics. The way you could maybe do this is to have the second coach be from an opposite class (tactical) and color comment give the tactical view as the main coach is presenting.
For Students:
1. Be on time and come on early.
2. Prepare 1-2 questions you want to ask.
3. Thank your coaches often.
Thank you Coaches!!!!
Oh god don't say that. My face turned blue from arguing that but to no avail.

Will definitely take that on board.
I think the googledocs I linked the group should keep you going until the team based pvp mentoring sessions are inked in.

or is there a make up session where I can come to the science one too (went to Engineering one already).
Thanks,
We will have a makeup session at the next Boot Camp on February 23rd (details to be released soon). Thanks for your interest!
