Dilithium Farming

fitzypoopfitzypoop Member Posts: 12 Arc User
I have some questions and they've probably been asked a dozen or more times before, I'm just not in the mood to hunt for them right now.

1) But why was the Ke'rrat mission messed with? Is it because people would just hang out and stay off to the side while others did the mission and then essentially get free dilithium?

2) Why is there a 20 hour timer between Asteroid Mining missions? It doesn't make sense to me for that. You don't see miners (real or fictional) hitting 5 spots and then say "well, that's my quota for the day, time to punch out." If we've got the 8k limit on refining, why should it matter how many times we can do that mission in a day? Slap a 30 minute timer on it and say, for RP purposes, that it's a cool down for the mining tool you use.

I spend all the time I have to play this game farming dilithium because I can't afford to have a subscription or throw a couple of bucks into it to get X amount of Zen. If I want something, all I can do is farm dilithium. I have my 3 character slots used and I try to max out their dilithium each day just to make a couple hundred Zen. Still can't buy anything I really want on the store.

Seriously devs, I'm not trying to be a pain or anything. I'm not trying to cause trouble. I'm just trying to let you know that the current state of dilithium farming in this game, is really making me not want to play. I really do like this game but if all I'm doing is farming dilithium whenever I come on, how am I going to enjoy the episodes and fun missions that come out?

Sure, I could stop farming dilithium and just play everything else but if I want to get better gear for my ship and away teams, I really need dilithium to get stuff from the store. Or a ton of EC to get it on the exchange.

Devs I'm begging you. Either make the Ker'rat mission the way it was a year ago or take off the 20 hour timer for the asteroid mining mission.

If you've at least read this, you have my thanks.

some of the daily missions have 400 or so dilithium rewards... there is a repeatable quest for doing the foundry that gives 900 or so... with doffs i can get as much as 2000 per day, though that is a guestimate, I don't have that much of an attention span so my daily income is usually 1000 dil. it would be nice to have kerrat back to the way it was this time last year, but I will settle for half of what it was for dilithium rewards...

I found doing borg missions or romulan ones makes for quick dilithium via the rep, takes 15 seconds to finish and only 50 rep marks each shells out 500 each time, so its good for that too. plus for the borg you get extra dilithium for winning so it maxes out on 1,209, or 2,209 if you get 5 neural processors.

If you actually understand anything about the Academy Event, it's a pretty easy 4600 Dil for one hour.

Cue people that haven't worked out how to change instances, or that there are double the number of particles in the building as there are outside, below.

The reason for the timer has nothing to do with in-universe logic or RP, and has everything to do with f2p game strategies.

They want you to come back the next day and mine, not just mine everything in one marathon session. If you have to 'pop in' to do your mining daily, you'll spend more time overall, because each time you'll be tempted to fiddle with your characters or update doff missions and reputations. The longer you spend in game, the more likely you'll be to end up spending money on something. Not to mention that by forcing you to seek out multiple different ways of earning dilithium each day, you'll experience more of the game and become more attached or at least have incentive to upgrade your ship to do stfs and fleet actions.

It might not be very fun to have to grind, but you've made your choice that it's more preferable to you than paying. Your plea seems to be, in a nutshell, to make getting things easier because you'd like it to be easier. But this sort of 'I'd love it if I could get more for less work' doesn't usually sway anyone, let alone game developers.

these missions, would they be the episode content?

I agree the game gets pretty boring at times as i spend most of the time im online just dil farming, going through my dailys with my 3 toons, and so I usually have to go a day without getting dil to enjoy the story and featured episodes etc, I really hate the 8k cap , what is the point of even having a cap?, if someone wants to spend all day playing for example to work towards a dilithium item the want for their ship then he/she should not have to wait an entire day just for another 8k, at the very least the cap should be raised.

Funny, I posted a thread a while back sharing the easiest way to hit the dil cap in under an hour per char and it was met with walls of flame. Send me a tell in game if you want to know. I'd hate to further ruffle anyone's feathers by giving you accurate and valuable info here.

    Let me get this straight:
The OP is complaining he "has to farm dilithium on 3 characters to turn into zen and still can't afford his c-store purchases"?
That's 24.000 dilithium per day -> almost 280 Zen, or so - so after 10 days you can buy the most expensive single things available in the c-store, or a plethora of other things.

"I can't afford subscription!". How terrible. It gives you 500 Zen per month, or so - and you're not satisfied with 280 Zen PER DAY.

Let's assume you need 3 respec tokens, account back, EC cap and a few other basic "gold member" things. -> Less than 3.000 Zen, 5.000 if you want very nearly everything in that regard.
It takes you 18 days or so.

    baaaaaw

If you don't have the time to play or do anything but dilithium farming.. what do you need those Zen for exactly?

I suspect a lot of ther reason for the timers is tied up in the devs wanting you to play a variety of content. This is good for them for two reasons:

    1) In the average player, it reduces the onset of burnout by reducing monotony, and
    2) It builds in structural inefficiencies (travel time, transwarp tolls, etc) that allow them to advertise greater rewards without changing their time invested to reward matrix.

Of course the devs understand that there is a subset of the player base who are "grinders," but by limiting the venues for that behavior they encourage mainstream players to participate in a more diversified .ix of content and thereby get more playtime (long and short term) which in turn props ly positively correlates with ze. And lts sales.

    That's my 2 EC at least :)

    This ^^

And to the OP, there is a cooldown timer on EVERYTHING that earns dilithium in case you haven't noticed.
