One of the things I don't like about this game is the rank titles. In the episodes and movies. How many Admirals are running across the galaxy commanding starships. I don't think any, they may be the Mission Commander, but they don't give orders around the ship. The Captain does that. Isn't that what this game is suppose to be all about, being in the CAPTAIN's chair.
I'm a die-hard trekkie and a heavy roleplayer and I just don't like that you can achieve the rank of Admiral. The five ranks should be Ensign, Lieutenant (J.G.), Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander, Commander and then followed by Captain at 50.
It just really grinds my gears and I'm killing time until the servers come back on
Some people like their Admiral status. Others don't. Those that like Admiral status would like to do more Admiral activities like sending ships to do missions and having the fleet with you when you do certain content.
As far as there being many Admirals, my opinion is that there is only one Vice Admiral that is currently being played by a player. There might be other Vice Admirals, but they are all npcs. So instead of thousands of Vice Admirals, from my perspective, I am the only Vice Admiral being controlled by a player and from another's perspective, their character is the only Vice Admiral being controlled by a player.
Best fix would be to simply make the Rank Title be selectable. So I can change the rank NPC's refer to me as, be Captain rather then Vice Admiral. This fairly small change would make a lot of people happy.
renaming the ranks is like closing the barn door after the horse is gone. All that is going to accomplish is upsetting the people who want to be admirals. Although I wouldn't mind untying ranks from the <rankname> call, so that NPCs don't constantly refer to us as Rear Admiral, Lower half.

Exactly.
The only thing that can "fix" this...if they ever want to do so...is to allow us to pick our rank title.
That will solve this "problem" with no negative side effects. Everyone would be happy.
It seems like Commodore was dropped from Star Trek after Season 1 of TNG. Lots of references to this rank in TOS and Enterprise and only one reference to it in TNG in the Conspiracy episode which is in the first season. There is no references to it in any other series.
I know commodore isn't in use in modern navies, but commodore is ST canon, and we're in Starfleet not the USN.
Commodore has been discontinued in ST Lore, they stopped using it somewhere between TOS and TNG. While they could bring it back, nothing in the lore suggests that they have, and Cryptic has said they don't want to use that title.

Lt. -> Lt.jg
Lt.Comm -> Lt.
Comm -> Lt.Comm
Cap -> Comm
Rear Adm -> Cap
Vice Adm -> Commodore
Adm -> Rear Adm

Instead, let's find options that will help with the OP's problem.
I gotta learn not to open my mouth sometimes.
