Mirror Universe Excelsior Class

Hello, Devs!

Ever since the days before beta when we were all typing out our future STO fantasies on the old forums, one simple idea that I eagerly counted the days until was when we could pilot Mirror Universe starships.... fully equipped with the glorious I.S.S. naming prefix! With the past three lockbox waves, those beloved mirror universe starships are finally entering the game.

I'd like to lovingly petition for the Mirror Universe Excelsior. I do hope it is in line to be released in mirror universe form as the past six starships have been. Of course, everybody has their favorite starship: because of that I am confident that other starships are in line to be released in Mirror Universe form as well.

My question for this thread is:
Is the Excelsior class in line for a mirror universe version? If not, please enter it into the line! If yes.... give us a sign....

Thank you for all of your hard (and awesome) work!

Long Live the Terran Empire
Through breaking waves and vicious storms /
Against lightning's fury and thunder's scorn /
Only through fire is order forged /
WIth vibrant glory /
A sword
=/\=

    I don't believe we'll be seeing a Mirror Excelsior.

The Mirror ships are different skinned and slightly altered BOFF layouts of free level 40 ships we have, as a means of letting players change it up, and also possibly get a decent ship without grinding dil.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

I'm right there with ya on the Excelcior but I too doubt it will ever be a playable ship... I wish they'd just put the mirror skins and I.S.S. prefix on the C-Store for ppl to buy them if they wanted. They're already in game so it wouldn't cost them a dime.

It also wouldn't take away from the lockbox mirror ships simply b/c they would still have the altered boff/console layout.

Actually, it'd probably switch out the ensign engineer with a tac or sci slot more than likely.

An ensign tac would make it a better build than the standard Excelsior. An ensign sci would be somewhat of an improvement too.

It would certainly be an interesting idea, but I'm not sure it would make sense (yes, I even try to apply sense to the goofy MU).

The Terran Empire was destroyed after Spock had taken over and tried to create peace.
The current incarnation is a rather recent event and appearently their ships are based on the prime universe versions (like the Defiant).
Ships like the Miranda make sense since they are likely to have originally been constructed before the fall of the Empire (and might have been lying around in some depot), while the newer ships are based on the ones from the Prime Universe.
Ships like the Excelsior...well I'm not sure there was ever any interest in building them.
They were conceived in an era where there was no Empire after all and never built in the Mirror Universe of that era.
And the newly refounded one probably had its hands full building "new" ships instead of retrofits of older ships.

I'd sure love to see one though.

Regardless of whether it makes sense, the Terrans do use Excelsior class ships. Here's a link.

Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

Yeah I think all of this, probably just wishful thinking threads, do lose sight of the fact that we will be unlikely to see mirror versions of ships in boxes of ships that are sold in the Cstore.

On the other hand, there is a possibility we might see them in the Cstore.

I know it's referred to by that as well, however here's a little riddle:

If it's called the "Terran Federation", why do the ships still carry the ISS-designation?
Not TSS or TSS of TFSS or whatever?

Lemme guess, you've got 8472 in your name...which means your counterpart is either an Undine with a gotee or (since Undine also means some kind of water spirit)...a rock monster from "Galaxy Quest".:P

I.S.S. stands for "Imperial Star Ship", similar to how U.S.S. stands for "Ur Ship Sucks!"... I mean "United Star Ship". :)

Its their way of taxing people. If you disagree with their ship, you die.

We never found out exactly when the Terran Empire fell. It could easily have been after 2285, which (in the prime universe at least) was the year the Excelsior was introduced. Alternatively, the resurrected Empire in STO could have stolen plans from Starfleet facilities.

Possibly, but if we go by the novel series on the subject (Sorrows of the Empire), the Terran Empire had begun to reduce its military spendings by that point.
Alternatively, the resurrected Empire in STO could have stolen plans from Starfleet facilities.

    But that's the weird thing:

It's usually only sensible to retrofit because you actually already have ships to retrofit.
You already invested resources once and it should theretically take less resources to bring the existing ships to a new standard than build new ones.
That's the point behind the whole thing.
But when you build a retrofitted version of an older desgn as new construction, you basically take the entire principle of a retrofit and turn it on its ear.
When a newly constructed design of the same size takes the same resources to build, has the same performance and still leaves room for further upgrades since it's actually new from the design-principle standpoint, a retrofit as a new ship is a dead-end.

what I am noticing is that people are not taking into account ships that may have been captured from the Tholians by the Terran Empire (such as the U.S.S. Defiant in 2155) which is most likely how they got their hands on the design for the Constution class, so it is entirely possible that the Terran Empire found an Excelsior in a Tholian base and decided to take it to copy the design
