Gorn to the left...Gorn to the right... A sheer SEA of Gorn... Pack out the mkxii pladmas and lets go huntin! But...they have gone... Replaced by a piddly few Gorn ships guarding half a dozen photon mines and a freighter... I miss having 60 Gorn ships firing at me! Bring back the original Gorn minefield... I wanna turn round and see a cloud of mines chasing me again! I want a cloud of plasma fire raining down on those damned Lizards!! BRING BACK GORN MINEFIELD!!!
No thank you. I hated the old Gorn Minefield fleet action. If you got to the final objective all the way at the other end of the map, in front of a planet that had some mine grid thing in front of it, and got killed, most of the time I couldn't even make it back before my team finished the mission. Too many enemies to go through just to get all the way there and often times I got killed again trying to get across the zone.
If you enjoy having lots and lots of ships surround you and blow your TRIBBLE to pieces, do Starbase 24. After defeating 50 ships for the first objective, tons of ships spawn all over the place. I die at least once in that mission. Before I finally came up with a decent bridge officer ability setup I use to die in that mission about 5 times. Everybody in my team dies at least once every time I do it. Also it use to be that a lot of enemies would end up at your spawn point so as soon as you came back to life you would get killed again, and again, and again. Not sure if they fixed that or we all just got smarter not to lure them to our spawn point. :P
But is the current gm TOO easy? I agree though...the sheer number of ships was ridiculous on any standard but BOY was it fun!! Seriously... Get yourself a mkxii purple plasma torp console n watch the damage rise!! :-P
Also the current one promotes people to 'goal hang' at the end... A lot of the time its usually me left repairing the final plant while the team are loitering woth intent ready to poince on any unsuspecting Klingon ships that might just possibly warp directly infront of them... Still.C'est la vie...
The old Gorn Minefield was horrible. It's fine at first, just shoot the closest ships, but flying around more and more enemy groups as the game declares those ships don't count for the mission anymore was not fun. And if you tried to do the daily, getting those mineral samples in the "sea of Gorn" was like smashing your head into a brick wall.
A force like that would be doable in a straightforward kill 'em all mission. A 20-man queue with "here's a gazillion enemy ships, go shoot them" would be fun. Nothing to defend, no timers, no picking which enemy type currently counts for the mission, no waiting for the enemies to respawn...just you, the enemy and a glorious battle. Even more fun if the enemy were randomly chosen like in Fleet Alert, so it doesn't get boring.

Sucks to be them, then. Your end-of-mission loot depends on a hidden score, and repairing the stations counts toward that score.
I hates the old one, if nothing for the fact no one seemed to know ho to play it. You would be shooting the dreadnought and there would still be about 5 people on stage 1 f some reason.
the new one is a tad easy but i dont mind fast paced gameplay. lets you do more.
the final battleship could be much much harder, just for fun.
hell, i don't want the old GM back... if you want to mindlessly kill irrationally large groups of enemies, do SB24, or mirror, or some of "xy space grind" foundry mission. i didn't go much often to the old GM because it was pointless, now i go, because it's relatively easy, and the reward is good, especially if you have the daily picked up, and/or you finishes 1st or 2nd.

RnD and upgrade needs less RNG. Less lottery. Something has to change.
to all the "nay"-sayers: what would be the hurt to you if they were to bring it back alongside the new one? If you don't like it, keep playing the new one. Nobody would be forcing you to touch the old minefield.
Similar thing with the old STFs. It wouldn't hurt anyone if they were still available.
As long as the daily continued to point to the new one, it wouldn't hurt.
Without the daily, and with a few other modifications, it could even be made into a playable mission. Specifically, it would need to have the "fly at full impulse around multiple enemy armadas to reach the one you're currently supposed to attack" -mechanic removed. It made the Gorn appear as static targets that just sit there waiting as the players go around and kill a few dozen from each group. Either the players should be forced to destroy the ships in their way to continue or the ships should warp out when they no longer count for the mission so you could move on to the next group.
That is also why, as someone mentioned, players who didn't know the mission would get stuck doing the first stage. Because the first stage never ended and nothing in the mission said you were supposed to ignore them and fly around.
I enjoyed the first because it was just one big chaotic fight, I didn't mind using full impulse to fly over the seas of Gorn ships - and more often the not I would find players who knew what they were doing and would advance as the objectives changed.
I like the revamped version because you can blast through it quite quickly and no-one is left confused or behind. I think with less players there is more chance to get decent loot rewards too. As for the chaotic fight well, there is always The Hive STF...
No thank you. I hated the old Gorn Minefield fleet action
Me too. It was a matter of grazing the swirling mass of school fishl. Bump up against the cloud, draw a few out, eat them, bump the cloud.
It was stupid from a suspension of disbelief standpoint as well. Why didn't all the ships converge on you at once instead of letting you pick off the stragglers? Why did they they bring every ship in their entire civilization? There's an utterly absurd number of them. All to protect a minefield that can be cleared by the most trivial amount of firepower. Why do you need the pointless minefield if you've thousands of ships on site?
Well... As a previous poster said... Dont play it... Bring the old one back...
And as for not being realistic... Dude... Your flying a spaceship on a computer... :-P
I think the new Gorn minefield is a bit too easy, but it's certainly better than the previous one. I still don't like the Starbase 24 mission (with the hordes of Klingons) as it's too easy to aggro a huge bunch of them in one go, and the Tholian Red Alert in the Tau Dewa sector block is pretty awful thanks to the huge numbers of ships (small numbers of Tholians is bad enough).
So while it can seem epic to be flying against a huge fleet, I'm much happier with fleets that it makes sense that a small team of ships might be fighting against, and less spam means better performance which never hurts as nothing is worse than facing a huge horde only to find your abilities aren't triggering due to the game engine slowing to a crawl (launching hyper-plasma torpedo spreads into massive enemy groups and setting half of them alight just kills my frame-rate).
But is the current gm TOO easy? I agree though...the sheer number of ships was ridiculous on any standard but BOY was it fun!! Seriously... Get yourself a mkxii purple plasma torp console n watch the damage rise!! :-P
I have all the endgame gear i want. I've completed all STFs with optionals, including into the hive ground elite. I think it's not just a matter of difficulty. Very resilient NPCs moving fast with a very low dps are just boring to kill. I like a lot more tough boss long fights, something STO lacks imo, but at least the new mission is a step in the right direction.
