Wait, don't click the X just yet.
If you've been here in STO over the last year and a half, you've likely seen the NX threads, about fans of the Akiraprise wanting a T5 variant for VA use. I admit, I've been a fan of the design myself; and some of us have been asking for a 25th Century design based off of the NX-class.
"But the NX-class is two centuries old, even it's basic design is so old that it would never stand up to today's tolerances!"
"Warp drive on a steam boat!"
Believe it or not, these are a couple of responses the NX-class used to get. However, after perusing BCFiles.com recently, seeking any updates to my beloved Bridge Commander... I found an amazing example. The basic shape and layout of the famed NX-class, but a ship which is obviously a 24th or 25th century outrider.
Pictures are worth a thousand words, and I hope these pictures help settle some of the nerves that were frayed on both sides of the argument.

If you really want a retrofitted NX class, just get an Akira and look at it from below.
Wouldn't that make it easy for Cryptic? They would take the Akira, flip it upside down, and go "There. NX-01. See what we did there?".
If they were to make something akin to the above possible variants for the Armitage class, I doubt folks would complain. In terms of a new 'class', they could exchange a console for say an engine, allowing for higher warp travel in sector space, or something. Enough folks who were fans of the NX-class would likely buy it just because of the profile alone.
