Was wondering if they will make a galaxy tier 6 ship since the C-store one wasn't that good, and the fleet version wasn't much of an improvemen, also we are getting a new rank soon.

We don't really need tier 6...and I doubt the galaxy will get alot of love even if there was a tier 6.

There is no confirmed evidence that Tier 6 ships will occur, but there is circumstantial evidence. In January's Ask Cryptic.
Q: (larsh1) Will there be anything to make use of our ships in Spacedock? I have a whole fleet of unused craft now since I only play with a select 3. I would enjoy being able to send these ships on doff missions, or have them as extra help on missions.

Dstahl: We are looking at some future designs for the DOFF system that may be quite similar to what you are suggesting. In general, we want Admiral level players to make good use of the ships they have in space dock and send them out on missions. Expect more discussion about this later in 2013.

    and in December's Ask Cryptic
Q: (cylon74656) Will the Steamrunner Class be available for those of us who don?t play through Steam? And also, when will we see the Typhoon Class playable in-game?

Dstahl: The Steamrunner Class is a Steam exclusive, so it will not be available in the C-Store. However, you do not need to play through Steam in order to purchase this item. If you have a Steam Account you can purchase the item through Steam and claim it in game without needing to play STO through the Steam client.

The Typhoon Class is a dreadnaught that will most likely not appear as a playable ship until we increase the skill point cap to full Admiral. Even then, we haven?t yet decided if this will be a player ship, but we can be convinced to make it so if there is enough support for it.

The Typhoon seems more like a command ship and if we are Admirals, then it makes more sense for us to be commanding a Dreadnought with a bunch of Tier 5 ships protecting us.

Whether we will get a Tier 6 Galaxy, I highly doubt it. If Tier 6 ships will exist, then there will be one in the Enterprise style, but it will not look exactly like the Galaxy.

Would be interesting to see the Typhoon come out as a Fleet Admiral ship. Would be interesting to see more fleet ships based on what rank you are in the fleet. Or at least have a custom skin for it.

In all likelihood they will introduce a 'fleet command and control' or CnC vessel, which would give you fleet commands over several of your own ships. The number, type and disposition of your personal task force will likely be scalable. It doesn't have to be 'new dreadnaught', but I would speculate it would be Odyssey-esque in size and capability. The Jupiter class already in the game was a 'stop-gap' vessel built to acts as a stationary defensive anchor. More mobile battle-station, than true starship.

    I want this. Badly.

Having said that, where would we use them? STF's are unlikely as game AI units probably would not be any more sophisticated than the current game allows for (i.e. simple fleet commands on the same lines as carrier commands. Note that T5 summon-able ships from New Romulus stay with you for the length of your life in any scenario and respond to carrier commands.) Fleet events would certainly fit the use, and to some extent daily patrol and episodic missions.

Ideally they would create a series of new missions designed for the Fleet Admiral.

Maybe for a pending Iconian invasion? Long term strategic deployments of squadrons that could deal with incursions throughout the known quadrants.

    Bwah-ha-ha, I so want this.

Galaxy already has a fleet version. Tier 6 is more likely to go to ships that are powerful but either don't have a player version (Typhoon, Jupiter), or don't currently have a fleet version (Odyssey, Dreadnaught, steamrunner).
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once. B)

Visions of a T6 Vesta just flashed through my head. I just really don't want to have to give it up and go back to the standard gimped sci ships. The really crazy thing is that, if they actually do a standard sci ship for T6, a Vesta might well outperform it.

Sci ships aren't gimped. Use the RSV. That sucker can put out some serious damage, even without cannons.

Why release a whole slew of T6 ships that not only kill customer interest in existing ships but also necessitate new art assets?

I suspect "T6" will be current fleet or lock/lobi store ships upgraded in some fashion... like say.. by the expenditure of a Z-store consumable? Better yet, make it a consumable you get from your fleet base at a ridiculous Dil cost. I don't think this "upgrade" would actually improve any of the statistics of our ships, but rather allow some sore of CnC function or add some unusual functionality (like say a hangar bay, a Lance, maybe a extra universal console slot, stuff like that) and/or only allow for our boffs to be promoted and run a variation of doff assignments.

Thinking it over, I see no reason why there couldn't be a sort of "personal" mobile dock or base, a giant slow ship, as oppossed to a fleet base, from where we could send our boffs on missions. Oh no! I just figured out! Its gonna be like a personal mini starbase complete with its own gated grind!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!

well they really need to fix the galaxy class, the fleet version doesn't really solve any of the failures it had as a c store ship. The only thing the fleet version gave was a 10% boost to shields and hull, and 1 extra eng console which it didn't need.

I used the RSV, then the fleet version. That pushed me to nearly 4k DPS with all Mk XII blue consoles, which is the minimum for a semi decent escort, and far less than even a cruiser can achieve. The best people I know in each ship type do 5k for sci, 7-9k for cruiser, and 9-13k for escort. Sure, sci gets a bit of control capability, but aside from GW it's only a very little bit, and you can't get all that much uptime with GW. The fact is that polaron weaponry is better than current energy drains and tetryon glider or tetryon weaponry is better than shield drains. Sci abilities really needed to be buffed across the board, instead they gave us the Vesta, and with that we're probably not going to get any more, because with sci abilities at reasonable levels it's very possible that the Vesta actually would be OP.

just because the level cap increases, doesnt mean the tier will. remember, the level cap increased within the admiral rank once already, and the tier didnt..

in my opinion, they will never go to tier 6.. they would never want to deal with or out class the ships they already have in the c store.. can you imagine how p.o. peeps would be if ships they spent 25 bucks on were suddenly garbage...

however, on the otherside of the coin, i could see them going to t6 and making us buy a module and getting a t6 varient through the starbase.. (i like paying for the same content over and over and over again lol..)

but i would say that we will probably not see a t6 ship for a long long time.. they have too much they want to do and on their plate to worry about messing with other game mechanics..

Sometimes i would prefer to command a galaxy class starship instead of a sovereign class ship just for the fun of it. I love the sovereign but the galaxy is more "known" to me. Its perhaps nostalgia and where all the true stuff happened imo instead of the sovereign that we only know of the movies...

Somewhere i hoped that they could make ships become like those certain objects ingame, like the breen cluster torpedo for example. Its up to the character, how powerful the object is...

Like you have the galaxy class ship, if your character is damn good in its skills, it doesn't matter that the galaxy is tier 5, it could be better than a crappy character with a vesta or sovereign.

Who knows they introduce it later in the game?
