Big Problem with TODO list as posted here

The post by generalkas stating that students will be expected to have read and use the Hilberts guide is a bad move. The current specs in the Hilberts guide off the STOAcademy skill planner have full points allotted to projectile weapons while none of the ship load-outs use projectiles of any type.:mad:

    It actually says to have read and be familiar with the guide - you're not required to respec and get all that equipment, but you are required to have a knowledge of what the guide says.

    Thanks for the response. Actually, we have never required students to "use" the Hilbert Guide or to respec according to it, only to "read" it. Here are the precise words from from the "To Do" list you are referring to:

    "Read the Hilbert Guide (http://hilbertguide.com/). Coaches will assume that you have read this carefully."

    Please keep in mind that Boot Camp is PvP Kindergarten. It is meant to orient students to the basic building blocks of PvP. To this end, the Hilbert Guide is quite successful, and I could give you a long list of virtues that make it currently the best document to date for such a cause. Does this mean that it is perfect or even the optimal guide all PvP needs? No, of course not. But it serves our purposes in Boot Camp as a compass in the often confusing world of PvP.

    Maybe you have unlimited riches and don't mind respeccing into a fully optimised build everytime you change bridge officers or ships, but I think many players don't have that luxury.

    The suggested spec in the THG allows a player to play basically any sensible escort or cruiser build in the game without respeccing. And the loss in effectiveness compared to a fully optimised build is miniscule.

    (Also: The PVEscort build in the THG uses a torpedo.)

    Therefore the spec includes torpedoes as well as flow capacitors (which are only needed for glider and other shield or power drains that are not part of the default builds of the guide).

    The spec is something that allows you to experiment on your own without requiring you to waste resources on respecs. And at the same time it is perfectly viable for high-end premade pvp.

    Thank you Hilbert for responding to this. So to emphasize something to those who might be critical of the builds in the Hilbert Guide, please add economic value and versatility to your criteria when evaluating Hilbert's builds in the guide.

    Perhaps its not just about having the best optimal escort build, you can do that with loads of different templates to suite your skills and abilitys, but rather a wide spectrum build that offers the player using Thehilbert build a chance to change out and try torpedoes, without having to respecc. I also do not think that anyone should consider Thehilbert build "the best" but its an option to try out many different setups without having really bad skill builds.

    If you want to focus more on healing and more torps nothing prevent you, (the player reading the guide) to make a guess that you might wanna boost them skills to max before maybe something else.

    I'm just coming back after a long break, and I'm finding The Hilbert Guide extremely helpful. The talent builds are not quite perfect, but they let me try out different ship types without too much hassle, and they aren't far off from what I would have done if I were trying to maximize for one particular ship or role.

    The tip about keybinds has been a huge help to me though. Binding attacks, shield distribution, and my commonly cycled abilities to the spacebar is gigantic. That's one of those things where cryptic kind of screwed up because there is no point in PvE where you need to do anything like that (you can get by pointing and clicking) and the game never teaches you to do anything like that.

    Overall the guide seems like a really great starting point.

    I used the Cruiser spec for my Galaxy-X with some minor adjustments, but otherwise it's been very helpful to say the least.

    I also took a modified version of the KDF version of the Hilbert guide and applied it to my Destroyer with some pretty good success as well.

    I'm actually really looking forward to the next session to see exactly how the points and skills are used to optimize my builds.

    as far as speccing goes, people should look at the damn tree and make smart decisions.

    Hilbert's guide is by far the most well put together basic "how to" that has been assembled for new PVPRs.

    look guys, there is a ton of knowledge involving this game that just cannot be read through text. the most important thing about 5v5 PVP is still coordination and communication.

    guys with TRIBBLE specs can still look like rock stars when they are in the right place at the right time, with the right game plan.

    familiarity with the THG is good requirement, if only to start our sessions by having the students ask questions about it, or explain why and how they differ with it.
