Session 1 - Feedback

Hi folks,

Well, I thought I'd put in my feedback for the first session (CET) that I've gone through. Bear in mind that I was PvPing with a new character, so knew a bit from my adventures with a tac captain in a Bug (Katie in my sig).

First, apologies to my instructors (Kendric et al) that I shot off, but had to reboot the router... What timing...

Anyway, to business:

Overall it was a really good session, as I learnt a lot about things other than my chosen specialisation (sci), and skills that compliment others (overcoming shared cooldowns). For guys totally new to PvP it was good as the basic binding (shield distribution to spacebar) was covered, and obviously led to a discussion on what to/to not bind.

Also, all questions were answered (with hard figures too! Soooo much better than a qualitative answer), and certainly I've now changed a couple of bits of my spec because of it (though I still have a long way to go). Suggested builds were thrown around, and the importance of watching things I'd not considered with my current career (watch for the buff ups before nuking)

DOffs were lightly touched on, and I'm sure the ins and outs of DOff setups could have been done for ages, but I think some of the basics were enough for some of the guys to get started with.

After I logged back in, I played a few matches with my revamped spec, and certainly felt like a better player because of it. Not stellar, but not so much of a liability than I had done previously. Hopefully the next session will build on this.

To that end, I have an idea for you guys for the Teamspeak nicknames to make things faster. As it was most had 'char@handle (#registration - preferred language)' as our nicknames. How about '@handle (#registration/career/preferred language)' for the next session? I say this because it might help for focussed answers to career-specific advice, but I think the guys instructing my session could answer most questions about any career/ship set up! :D

So, thanks for setting this up guys, particularly Sargon for getting the ball rolling! And thanks to Bran for supporting this (and even popping into TS to say hello!). Since I mentioned my experiences in the session to fleetmates, they've all been eager to get involved, and learn more about this hax known as PvP. Looking forward to the next one!

Indeed, I will agree with you. I just came back from my own session with PaxOttoman and Ilhansk and I found that even though I do know a bit on PVP, I learned new things I never knew before.

Like Tactical Fleet doesn't stack with another Tactical Fleet. I didn't know that beforehand, so now I will use my Tactical Fleet ability sparingly unless I really need it

I was in the 2nd session with Brandon of Sad Panda. Over all the session was great. I learned a bunch and got some really good information for my Galaxy-X of Doom. :)

Thanks to all the coaches for their time and effort. Especially to Brandon for being so open and giving us such valuable information and resources.

I am looking forward to next months sessions.

I was grouped with Horizon and Pheo. There was a lot of information being tossed about. I was especially impressed with the attitudes and some of the questions from the participants.

I know that logistically it can be difficult to manage a large group of players with a widely different amount of experience and builds. 10 v 10 is fun (especially the second one after the discussions on target calling and damage/healing support). I'm just concerned there was so much going on that it might have been a bit overwhelming.

I didn't hear anyone else complaining, so maybe it isnt that big of a deal, but large matches like that tend to hurt my dinky little connection. On several occasions a team mate commented on my running out of range but in reality I had taken my hands off the keyboard and watched the Compliant attempt a number of barrel rolls, lol. It's hell on timing spikes or finding targets too.

The other thing I liked was the emphasis on doing one thing well, especially as demonstrated by our Tac coach's exponential damage AND kill count as well as our heal coach being equally impressive on his end. Compared to the rest of us these stood out especially well to demonstrate the point of knowing your role.

A lot of us, myself included seemed a bit resistant to change on a few issues. An Eng Cruiser wanted to focus more on damage than healing. Science captains threw abilities about seemingly randomly. I don't particularly care for full cannon Tac builds. In the end, without demonizing a particular style, everyone was pretty well directed towards a method that is generally more effective in the current gaming environment.

With so many people I think it might have been too tough to get everyone's build sorted out on an individual basis but I sincerely hope that folks had a positive experience and that leads them to seek additional information on these forums. I look forward to future camp events and believe they can really make things better for all of us.

If anyone in the camp ever wants some help or just needs someone else to bum around with for a couple games then please ask. The OrganizedPvP channel isn't perfect but its a good place to wind a wingman to PuG with (even a full team or private match from time to time). I'm not promising a life changing experience but in between my doffing I'll even try to fly a few. I can find a thread to answer a question or help you find someone who knows more than I do (that would be most of them). At the very least you'll have one less person to worry about AFK/farming or quitting on you, lol.

The point is, I just want PvP in STO to be a better gaming experience for everyone. I hope the boot camp is continued and encourages people to give the queues a run for their money.

Thanks to everyone who organized the event and all those who came out looking to learn!

It's terrible but easy, and these Borg are way cooler than the mess STO and Voyager left us.
May not actually be "way" cooler or even "slightly" cooler.

Sorry, I didn't have my screenshot to hand when I wrote that (was on my phone, hosing the 3G whilst the router had a fit), so I couldn't remember everyone. I remember Kendric cos I kept healing him throughout the match. :P

I knew you'd come in eventually and jog my memory... :D

    Tim,

This is a fabulous idea! I will add it to my meeting notes and the coaches will discuss adopting this idea.

Please keep the feedback coming. We will do our best to process it in a timely manner.

my general feedback, via bullet points....

-minimize administrative tasks and positions, it takes away from the "we are all here for the betterment together" feeling for me personally, and the less time we are pushing papers across our e-desks, the more time we get to shoot at each other!

-start a "team" oriented class for those that have found builds they enjoy flying....this can be with myself, or several other of our very few true "shot callers" we have in the community...my next recommendation for this would be Pax, Naz, and Pascal.

-slightly smaller classes, even staggered time slots until we get more coaches....i do understand this will get easier as we get along with it, but i found myself really running out of 1 on 1 coaching time....

-encourage formation of new pvp fleets, and conversely, encourage consolidation of pve fleets with few pvp interested players. 100+ people on last night was amazing...there are never that many in the q's at one time....ever... so we know you guys are out there!

i guess that is it for now, i love the open teamspeak that has been provided, i shall visit it regularly...

    here's to successful beginnings!

    have fun kill bad guys

    -thrusters on full-

That was suggested in the first class but there wasn't enough room for some names.

If the name@handle is short enough great! But otherwise maybe a small snip like

    vulc..@handle/TRIBBLE/Eng would be more ideal.

    Thanks!

At this point in time, I would like to say that bootcamp is so far a success.

Myself, Hank, 4monkeys, and Brandon all went with the curriculum outline. For the amount of time allotted, it was a reasonable amount of information for those players to experiment with and learn from. Intensive portions have been left to the end of the curriculum, and makes sense in order for the guys to experiment with what they learn from in session 2.

All and all a good experience for me thanks to the participants, and special thanks to Sargon.

First the event overall was great and I support and thank "all" for the great work behind the scenes.

A couple of constructive cristicisms: Teamspeak use is highly encouraged but there was "so much chatter" that made it hard to concentrate. Could you please add some rules for people to be on mute unless doing an FQA session? So many people asking/talking honestly was really annoying.
Secondly, could you please train the trainers to keep sessions at most 1.5hrs....my session easily went over 2 hrs since peeps were asking so many questions. Again an FQA session should be done as "optional" at the end for those who wish to attend rather than interrupting the teacher as it was often in my group.
Last, trainers need to be given clear and concise curriculum. My trainer was all over the place and nowhere from what session should have been (careers/user interface).
I know there were lots of people who signed up but there was no clear guideline on the other end..perhaps it was overwhelmed by the mere number of attendees.

Nothing major just wanted to give you my feedback and do thank everyone for offering the event.

Thanks and much needed to support PvPs:D
