BK have it your way-Build your own kits

one of the things that i find makes this game fun, is that its really just like Burger King, have it your way (excuse me for any "copyright infringement"). no matter what class or species you are, you can choose how you like to play the game. just because your a science person doesnt mean you cant fly and escort, and so on.

going on that theme, i think it would be a great idea to add build your own kits, just take 4 or so abilities and combine them together to make your very own kit.
this would be a great idea for several reasons:

1-in pretty much every kit ive used (im and eng and have all the kits), theres always 1 or 2 awesome abilities, and 1 or 2 useless abilities. Example-i really like the fabrication specialist, but really only for the turrets and mortars, the med gen and drones are POS's, but the only other kit that has mortars is breach engineer, i believe, and those abilities i use even less. i also like to use enemy neutralization, but unless your defending transformers in CGE, the transphasic bomb takes too long to set up and detonate for most other NPC groups that i encounter. therefore, it would be really great to be able to, oh say, make a kit that has weapons malfunction, chroniton mines, mortars, and turrets or fuse armor. that way, i can weapons malfunction an NPC, hod them in place, surround them with mines, and let the mortars own them, and when they move, the meet my mines :D

2- although the little tid bits of info that appear on the loading screens are sometimes correct and helpful, the one that says: "collect several kits, this way, you can quickly change your characters abilities by swapping to a different kit" is, in my opinion wrong. why? because of the stupid thing called red alert. i get that its in place so people can cheat, rip off, or chicken out mid-fight, but honestly? not being allowed to switch kits, thats just bull****, especially when it last for much, much longer then it ever needs to after you stop shooting, or getting shot at. because of this, rarely can i ever change kits around on a dime, so i say either change that aspect of red alert (and that goes for changing anything around in both space and ground, its just stupid),or having personalized kits would make it so that i dont need to change kits to use all of the abilities i want.

in conclusion, there is so much more potential that can be reached by players in the game if were allowed to make our own kits. it improves efficiency of player combat and teamwork, and it also makes the whole experience a lot more enjoyable as it further allows for unique and personal development of both the character and real world person.

I would be compelled to stop using my Medic kit if I could have a kit with:

    Exothermic Induction Field
    Hyperonic Radiation
    Anesthizine Gas
    Sonic Pulse

    ^ Most fun kit ever!

Point 1 I agree with completely and I think they should reverse the kit swap change and maybe put in a pet limit if they MUST put good engineer players at a disadvantage (Yes pvp forums, I'm looking at you).

As for point 2, not ALL changes should be possible under red alert, you wouldn't change engines or shields etc and it's not likely you'd change ship weapons either however I would like the ability to change boffs at red alert, they do it enough in the shows why not allow us to do it in game? Doing CSE now I have to swap from 1 tac boff that gives me beam overload to fire at will but I have to break combat losing time and team DPS

To me, the solution to this is "Make every ability equally valuable", and not "Enable players to ignore useless abilities even more than they already are".

Would be way too OP'ed. The second that is allowed you'd see every Caitian ganker using Fireteam Kits, except they'd swap out the plasma grenade with Stealth Module. God knows I'd swap out the plasma grenade for Motion Accelerator just to really hack off the players who depend on slowing down your movements to win.

And god knows what kind of combinations you can come up with to break the game.

So I can't agree with you. This has the potential for having an ungodly amount of abuse.

Yeah, always found it strange that my Boffs can have their 'kit' anyway I want but for me, I have 5-6 preset arrangements. And 4-5 of them all have at least 1 power that I don't like or is useless (looking at you Combat Supply)
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Why limit yourself to class-skills if you're building your own kit? Mix and match, baby! :D

    Photon Grenade III
    Medical Tricorder III
    Phaser Turret III
    Quantum Mortar III

A brilliant idea, though I would stick to specific class skills. If you're playing as Tactical, you only get Tactical skills. If you're playing as Science, you only get Science skills etc.
