Ship customization!

deusemperordeusemperor Member Posts: 136 Arc User
So not sure if this has been posted before, but I really really want this idea to happen.

I want set visuals on space sets to be unlocked so you can have them active on your ships even when not using the set. Like how you have omega visuals but have full maco on ground. Also I think it would be cool to have color customization on some of the set visuals. Example: Aegis set would look awesome in red on my fleet patrol escort.

I would pay for the option to have this done. Pvpers may not like it, but most pvp with disabled visuals to hide what you're really packing anyways.

I figure the ship is you so I want more customization like I have with the ground tailor. Please!

I've mentioned it a few times to other players and they all support the idea. It would bring something new to the game having more uniqueness to ships.

Another example: love the reman look not a fan of the teal color or the set, and so would love to use a set that helps my build and look awesome in red coloring instead of teal.

Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

I sooooo very endorse this. ANYTHING with added visuals should be toggleable. We know it can be done, because that's already how ground stuff works. If I can turn off the visuals for my ground toon's armor, I should be able to do the same for my ship's shields.

MACO shields look great, but there's a reason I customized my paint scheme. Not to mention when you get a piece of kit that just looks straight up ugly. I effing hate having these stupid borg zits all over my ship, but I can't afford to part with the assimilated module console. I spent an entire ship tier on both factions flying with a Jem Hadar set, and could not WAIT to replace it due to that horrible eyeball-rotting shield hull pattern.

The Reman shields are very hit-and-miss too: on some ships they look fantastic, on others one-note and toylike.

    Glad everyone likes the idea.

@connectamabob: you can right click the assimilated console and left click on disable visuals getting rid of the "Borg Zits".

Can you guys help spread the word of this I figure if we get enough posts it may get looked at by a dev and possibly happen.

    Thanks!

Yes, a thousand times yes. That would be an awesome addition to this game.

Lets see how Cryptic could implement this in game. I figure the Set visuals would be locked until you collected the entire set. Then you'll be able to select what visuals you want in the ship tailor.

Maybe they'll add it to the reputation system, because that is what they did for the ground armor unlocks. Then Aegis set would have to be added to a rep thing I guess. They do have plans to add more reputation embassy's.

Probably have to get all 3 reman set pieces mk 12 purple then unlock the visuals through another project.

Still if cryptic chooses that route I'd still want it in game.

As this is something that I would love to see added to the game, I can remember posting about this before. This would also allow for the addition of extra mod parts without having to expand the item sets themselves.

I would love this, too. I've been seriously tempted, for example, to craft Aegis shields JUST for the look.

It would be nice to have more control of the appearance of our ships even it is just a more complete color pallet for not just decals but the ship hull itself. I like the Reman shield for how it makes the ship look and it would be nice if I could choose a hull coloration that looks similar. I would gladly pay for such an option if they put it in the C-Store.

    +1

I'm in favour of this, and have wanted it for some time.

The PvP argument as you stated is moot when you can disable visuals.

Personally I'd prefer the visual unlocks remain tied to the items themselves, rather than having to grind yet another reputation project.

    I'd suggest it be done one of two ways;
    • Accolade Tied; You get the item, it awards you an accolade, the accolade unlock the costume option. This is how some of the STF ground costumes work.
    • Item Tied; As long as you possess the item anywhere in your character (bank, inventory, on any ship) the costume is available to use.

That is a nice option. I would love to have such a stuff on my ships... especially if I could use the super KDF Aegis fx on my federation ships. Cool red instead of the boring blue.

Also, so you are the guy who took the username I wanted :D

I cannot tell if the people who keep announcing that they will pay for some arbitrary feature are actual players or just plants working for Cryptic.

I wished I worked for cryptic I would change/fix so many things. lol Latinum plated hull! I'd probably cry every time my ship exploded because that much latnium going up almost too much my ferengi core.

I'd rather not have to do another rep project, but I figured that cryptic already did the visual unlocks for the ground armor in the rep system that they'd do it for this too. :(

Custom/kitbashing ships would be nice, but then cryptic would have to create all the parts in 3d modeling and rigging.

Thats if they are new parts, but for all the parts that are already in game it really means changing how the parts are organized and what is made available to each ship. Some parts obviously wouldn't be compatible but there is room for a lot more mixing and matching than what we have now.

It would also get around the issue with multi-part ships such as the Galaxy, Prometheus, and Odyssey losing the visuals on the other sections on separation, as these visuals would then be part of the costume as opposed to part of one ship.

I understand they already dealt with this issue - now the saucer NPCs wear full Borg sets (for example) :P

I like this, anything that can customize a ship is great. But what if I dont want to grind all the way to get those sets? Or if I want to mix and match? Or maybe I just want really cool impulse engine trails like what the Aegis set has? I'd pay some zen to get these little customizations, just like we have with the tailor options for our ground uniforms. Of course if its going to be added, make sure we have a full spectrum of options to choose from, including things like colour, transparency, intensity, etc. Just like if we were building a character, we should be able to customise the ship (however I am against structural changes, these should be only cosmetic changes.)

I agree that if they put this in options it would be nice! I do hope they do this, they already do it for ground to some extent so why not space costumes.

I absolutely love the visuals for the Aegis set as well and really hate the fact that the stats pretty much make it useless thanks to fleet/rep sets. I would love to be able to use the Aegis visuals, but other parts and be able to customize the colors.

Although in regards to the Aegis set maybe it's time it finally gets removed from crafting and put into a Starfleet rep and gets the renewed life of better stats it deserves.

One way to customize would be rooms whose size fits that of the 3 interior choices, take the KDF one, its engine room could fit a BOP's fuselage in it.

Aside from that the Romulan transporter should be put in the main level and replaced with the cloaking device, anyone agree?

Shut up and take my money!

In all seriousness, this would be a brilliant addition. Hell I'll definitally pay zen for even individual unlocks. This is exactly what the zen store needs. Skins, effects. Hundreds of them!

It actually does that already. If you put Reman or Jem'Hadar shields on a ship, you can see the new skin in the customization thing.
