edited December 2012 in PvP Gameplay
Hi i was playing some ground pvp yesterday and encountered an enemy player who could not be killed.
It was a 3v3 and my entire team focussed on one enemy player. We continually brought his health to 0 and he wouldn't die.
I'm an experienced ground pvp player since sto started and i've never seen anything remotely like this before.
Just thought i'd bring this up to the forum , in case others are experiencing this.
:)

Its not hacking, is a Bug related to buffs that you can get in the Winter Wonderland.

I have already sent a PM to Borticus explaining the issue.

We're investigating what may be causing this. However the "Rampaging Snowball" debuff that's being blame cannot possibly be the cause - it does not render you immune to death. That effect (present only in Q's Winter Wonderland) is handled by a zonewide power that only lasts 1 sec before being refreshed by the zone. If you somehow managed to leave the zone with the effect intact (a situation which shouldn't be possible), it would only last 1second.

If anyone has better repro steps on making this happen, please PM me. So far, all I've seen is complaints of it happening without any explanation as to who it came to pass. While we're trying to track it down ourselves, any info you guys may have would be helpful.

This happened to me, I was at 0 health for a good while before finally dying. I noted it in Zone chat, and someone mentioned they'd seen it a few times. It was kinda cool, but I worried about getting reported for cheating.

As far as repro... I have no idea. It only happened to me once. I was in Shanty Town, fighting on my Bajoran Female Engineer.

I've also seen the "Rampaging Snowball" or some other winter buff with a timer that is definitely longer than 1 second. I do recall seeing it outside of the Winter Wonderland, but I can't recall if it was in the same match I didn't die for a while.

I've had Rampaging Snowball stuck on me for much longer than 1 second. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was stuck on me the entire time I was in the Winter Wonderland.

I don't know if it left with me when I left the Winterland, but it wasn't on me when I logged back in the next day.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to reproduce it.

Huh... I thought I was imagining things, when it happened to me, but I was not in a Pvp match, I think it was one of the fleet events... don't remember exactly, could also have been an STF.

I've managed to repro it, somewhat. Get the Rampaging Snowball buff....then INSTEAD of talking to Q to leave wonderland, you just simply push the Beam to Ship button on your minimap. The buff timer still ticks down from 10min, but I was able to carry it into a Ground PvP match, although it didn't keep me from dying. After I died the 1st time, the buff disappeared. I've noticed that sometimes I'll actually carry around 2 Rampaging buffs after returning to ESD, but never tried to exploit it because I actually didn't know what it was supposed to do even in wonderland. But as to your claim that the debuff cannot possibly be the cause because it shouldn't be possible to leave with the buff....well, it's VERY possible that there's more going on than you think.

Well, you dont need to leave Winter Wonderland, you can simple join any queue from there. The other buff that you're mentioning is not a second Rampaging, it's a "Snowball throw" buff, they have the same mini icon.

And Borticus i have already told you the repro steps, its only related to the snowman.

"Rampaging Snowball" is not related to this at all. It is a nothing-buff, literally. It applies a Null attribute to you, and has been turned off (it was used for testing, nothing more).

We've located the issue that's causing this, but I'm not going to release that info since it could then be knowingly exploited. Just know that we're working to find a solution.

Haha! That would be cool. If only the Shard of Possibilities had that as an additional side effect - gain two copies, and invincibility!

I have not seen this particular exploit, but some of the ones that are destroying pvp are there and well known. The logout exploit is only used by a few fleets and people, but it is consistent. So, even if you kill them they logout right before. It is so widely known that it is an ongoing joke in opvp channel. So while you are trying to kill the logger...their buddy is inserting a pulsewave right behind you cloaked.

Ive heard in zone chat by some people that the logoff exploit is a legitimate feature to escape death from space and ground.
[9:56] [Zone] NameRemoved: Exploits? What exploit? I'm using the legitimate log in/out functionality provided by the user interface.

They need a way to fix this bull TRIBBLE

They don't use the Logout Button on the HUD, they just keep the logout command in their chat window. So they just have to hit the return button on their keyboard, shortly before they get killed.

And wdoc is correct. There are particular fleets and their members exploiting it. In general the greatest Trashtalkers around.

Minimum should be, to get a 5 or 10mins penalty for logout of a PvP.
    This is Crypticverse...
