Please Fix the Exchange

iconiansiconians Member Posts: 6,987 Arc User
Dear Cryptic,

I have waited patiently for what I argue is an extended period of time for the exchange to be updated and improved to account for the new items added to the game. There has been little headway made on that front.

Instead of fixing the problem, you continually make the problem worse. Please stop throwing gasoline on the fire. It will not put the fire out. It is even conceivable you don't know there is a fire.

Warfare Specialists were added - a Warfare Specialists tab on the exchange was not added to the exchange. Now they're found under a myriad of other tabs for duty officers that are not warfare specialists. This makes finding those duty officers difficult since the tabs are saturated with tholian warfare specialists.

Consultant duty officers were added with the new duty officer pack - a Consultant duty officer tab was not added to the exchange.

Winter commodities were made tradable. Winter commodities are not showing up on the exchange. If they are, then I have not been able to find them.

And that's just the most pertinent. There needs to be a more powerful search function. I know your staff is working hard. But the exchange needs to be a higher priority than it currently is.

There needs to be better search filters than there currently is. Species, Traits, Special Abilities, and most importantly a filter to differentiate between KDF and Federation duty officers.

By not fixing the exchange while continually adding new items that the exchange doesn't recognize, you hurt the in-game economy. By releasing a new doff pack with a new doff (Consultants), without adding a tab for it in the exchange, you hurt your own profit margins. Some people will buy those doff packs simply to get the chance of finding a Consultant and then selling it on the exchange. I'm not one of them. But those players do exist.

You need to get serious with the exchange. A healthy in-game economy means a healthier game. And this in-game economy is not as healthy as it could be.

Every single item you make tradable, every new item you add to the game that is not covered by existing exchange tabs -- you need to add tabs for it on the same day as the release. This isn't something you should put off until you get around to it.

Exchange accessibility for said new items need to go hand-in-hand with said new items you plan on adding to the game.

Love,

The Iconians

You can find the winter trinkets if you search by name. Try "beads" with the filter set to Uncommon, and bam, Bajoran Gratitude Beads.

I was not aware of this. Thank you. This does help me.

My point still stands, however. I'm not content with work-arounds in order to use the exchange.

While you can find winter trinkets by filtering by common rarity, it still does a general all-exchange search for those items and you get gimped results that won't show you the cheapest items that are actually being listed.

The problem is that the winter trinkets are "common inventory" items, and they don't show up when you search under the common inventory tab in the exchange. The exchange will only show you a comprehensive list of all exchange listings for a specific item when you filter your results by using one of the tabs.

thats pretty useless since is not important if I know ,most people (potential buyers) wont know where or how to search .

Yeah, exchange is just horrible. Filters would be nice. But I don't understand how basic functions can be so broken. Price per stack! Really? This is nonsense. Just make it price per unit as in Dilithium-ZEN exchange, as in real life stock market, as in any other game. Displaying klingons doffs for fed and vice versa! Why? Why? And I'm not going to talk about missing doff categories and broken rarity filter...

BTW if you need performance, you shouldn't enable searching in all categories (Item Type: All).

I'd love the exchange to be fixed, KDF to get more stuff in the Z-Store, Auto-Chat Ban to be eliminated and replaced with something better (flood control perhaps or perhaps a user set 'auto-ignore on floods of messages?)

These things would be truly amazing to see

It's been broken for months and they don't even care. The last answers we got were "it's working as intended". The fact is that the "all" subsection is completely non functional; at least it would be smart to tag new items so that they go into any of the existing subsections, allowing us to use the exchange properly.

    no, it is not working.
I put bells for sale at 10000 as a test. Tried to find it using filters. The bells did show up in the result but the cheapest one was around 20000. Mine didn't show up at all.

I don't understand why they are complicating simple things. They already have good exchange system that works, it is Dilithium-Zen exchange. Just copy the code and use it for all stackable items (comodities etc). You can do this fast. Rest of the exchange will have lover load and can be fixed later.

The rest of exchange is another story. It needs complete rework. Boff and doff searching should have different filters than rest of the items (for performance optimization).

    Boff and doff
    - search name (optional)
    - quality filter (forced for doffs)
    - skills (boffs, optional)
    - traits filter (optional)
    - race filter (optional)
    - sorting Price, Time descending

    Other items
    - search name (optional)
    - quality/rank filter (forced)
    - sorting Price, Time descending
    - more categories or filters for dmg types etc.

Silly. There's no such thing as a player-based EC economy. If we aren't shoveling in hundreds of thousands of dollars a month into PW for items of arguable and arbitrary usefulness , then we just clearly don't know how to play our game correctly.

Exchange has been broken for a while. Results are usually inaccurate if you do a general search for an item, it doesn't always bring back the lowest prices on those items. If you narrow the search down to rarity, you get a different list of prices, and the same thing happens again if you search a specific category.

Also, my listed items don't always appear on the exchange for sale. I have listed items, never sell any. So I decided to post something and check with another account and sure enough, the items don't show up in the search, regardless of what method I use.

So how about getting this fixed?

Agreed! I also would like to add:

PLEASE add a new filter when you add a new DOff type. Not that I think the list of doff types was the best way to handle that at all, but it is really annoying when a new type is added and cannot be searched.

Looks like the thread on which I commented was merged with a thread wherein my request was already stated. Love it when that happens

    "Working as intended"?

I have heard this said before, and it doesn't cease to disappoint me.

Cryptic can't acknowledge that it is a problem, they can't acknowledge that the exchange is irrefutably bugged, caused by the adding of items to the database without accounting for those same items on the exchange.

Yes, I know there are a lot of items. Yes, I know people at Cryptic are hard at work on other projects.

And if that isn't the problem, then they won't say what is. They can't be honest and simply say "Hey, we dropped the ball on the exchange. We'll work on it."

If it is, in fact, working as intended, then Cryptic gets a D- on the in-game auction house/exchange.

You create a new duty officer pack, with a new type of duty officer, and you don't make it searchable on the exchange. Knowing full well that those duty officers will be valuable and that people will put down money to buy it in order to sell the said duty officers on the exchange for EC.

This is a horrendous business decision. You don't spend months of hard labor coding and creating a new duty officer pack without wanting to maximize your profit gains by making every single duty officer in the pack searchable on the exchange.

It's like Cryptic isn't even serious about wanting to make money from the doff packs.

Roughly translated it means: "Cannot Be Bothered" ;)
